 A purple, horned figure stands atop a giant brown rock, on the jagged edge of Deathfall Mountain. The mountainside is speckled with patches of green and huge multicoloured wild-flowers that flip flop in the light breeze. To the east, she can see the vast blue ocean and, to the west, a sprawling grey, concrete jungle. The air is pleasantly cool and the sky is as clear as it can be, this close to the city. Alleria closes her eyes and breaths in the fresh air. “I don’t know why anyone would want to live in the city,” she remarks, filling herself with the atmosphere, before looking to her best friend, Rune. The pair of demons are childhood friends. One fateful day, they met at the beach. It was a beautiful, innocent day, making towering sandcastles in the sun and surf. Rune gallantly saved Alleria from getting eaten by a crab, tossing his sand bucket on the evil crustacean. Ever since then, they've been inseparable. They are adventurous, constantly getting into mischief, for as long as they could remember; and this weekend, they've decided it would be fun, to hike up the mountain and explore. Jumping down off the rock, Alleria’s tummy grumbles. “Lunch?” she inquires, diving into her backpack without waiting for a reply. She lays random objects out around her: a can of corn, a yellow lego block, a notebook, and a crab shell, while digging for the snack she prepared for them.

 "You read my mind!" Rune, who had just finished a rather exhilarating hike with Alleria exclaimed. He came to a stop next to her taking in the breath taking view that was in front of them, and agreed with her in the fact that he does not understand why anybody would choose city living over this beauty. He noticed her looking to the East. " Oh hey! Check out that ocean Ria! Reminds me of the day we met... you know, when I saved you from the evil crab of doom?" He teased, fond of the memory. And one he remembered well, ever since he had saved her that day, they had been on their own countless, and often careless, adventures together. He remembered that as a child, he could never say her name right, and his name for her had been "Ria" ever since. He also remembered one particular day they had been hopping around the rocks in a nearby quarry, he had lost his footing and slipped in between the rocks in a very shallow chasm. He remember shouted " RIA RIA!" And her face peering into the hole giggling at the way he said her name before lowering a vine to help him out. He sighed at the memory. Rune had been standing there stupidly, with a weird smerk on his face when Alleria snapped him back into reality with the prospect of lunch. He watched her take some thing out of her pack... Corn, notepad... a crabshell?? "What the heck is up with the crab shell?" He questioned, confused. He poked the can of corn "Seriously Ria, I am going to starve to death with you packing our lunches.. you've got something good in there right?" He peered over her claws as she rummaged through bag to get a better look. He reached around to his pack and grabbed a bit of jerky while he impatiently waited for Alleria reveal their lunch. "I shay we chreck out that mrountain shide one of these days" He said around mouthfuls and swallows " Or beyond it" He suggests, not even finished with the current quest they are on.

Alleria’s eyes light up at her friend’s acknowledgement of the shell. “Don’t you recognize it?” She brims from ear to ear, “it’s our nemesis, from the beach!”
“Jerky? How’d that get in there?” She produces a bunch of fresh, carrots and tosses a couple to Rune before taking big, crunchy bite for herself.
Stowing her treasures back in the bag, she remarks, “you know… there’s a cave around here, somewhere, we should check it out!”
The winiko hops up and starts to ascend the mountain again: climbing and hopping from stone to stone, at this elevation the trees have turned into densely matted bushes and there are patches of snow on the ground. “Hopefully you don’t accidentally find this one, like last time.” Perched on another rock, she turns and sticks out her tongue.

"You... KILLED it??" Rune exclaimed in complete shock. Ignoring the carrot that was tossed at him "For what purpose?" He questioned, he hoped he didn't sound mad at her. Mad is something he could never be... he was a little hurt that she kept this from him. Maybe it had just slipped her mind, he thought to himself.
He picked up the carrot and munched on it reluctantly, preferring something more meaty, and followed Alleria up the mountain once more. Alleria perches on top of a rock, sticking her tongue out at him and poking fun at his rock accident. He looks at her fondly "Excuuuuse me, at least I am not pretending to be a crazy huntress in disguise" Walking past her, he flicks his tail gently into her face to taunt her. "I hear the cave is actually encased in ice... we are totally checking that out!... I wonder what could be in there?"
The dense bush had started growing onto the path the higher they got. Rune took out his machete and started hacking a path for them to get through. Something stirred in the bushes, and upon closer inspection, he noticed a family of mountain cottontails. "Awe, look Ria!" He gently and quietly held the bush back for her to see. He often wondered what it would be like to be a dad... what kind of adventures he and his family could get into.

“All of my enemies will be destroyed!” She cackles maniacally, just acting silly.
“Really though, I was just hungry and for that matter you were the one who smooshed him!” She doesn’t break a stride, until she gets a tail in the face! “Hmmph!” She swats at it. Thinking back to the crab, she felt horrible at the time and from then on she couldn't eat meat.
Grinning wickedly, “I heard a witch lives in the cave!” She pauses, “Will we even be able to get into the cave. If it’s frozen, I mean…”
Seeing her friend stop abruptly, she gingerly approaches the bush and whispers, “What do you see?” She leans on Rune’s shoulder, “Aww... They look so happy.”

Rune lowered the bush slowly so that he would not disturb the cottontails. He ran up to a rock and struck a pose, raising his machete into the air "I shall slay the deadly witch and win fair maidens hand!" He swings his machete wildly about "None shall escape my fury!" he struck some bushes and sent leaves and twigs flying every which way. He hops down from the rock grinning "Besides Ria.... I think it was more like a Shaman, or sorcerer that resides up there" He thought of the ice for a second.."Didn't happen to bring a flamethrower did ya?"
They continued up the mountain, the air became thinner and thinner, a cold wind began to howl. "And for the record, that crab would have totally snipped your tail off! If I had been any later, you'd have a stubby butt right now!" He giggled at the thought. "Of course... i'd still love you either way" he sucked in a breath "Like, LIKE you either way" he turned to her. He'd hoped she didn't catch that, and that his words got lost in the wind. He blushed furiously, wanting to fling himself over the mountainside. He had never revealed his true feelings to Alleria, for fear it would ruin the amazing friendship they had. He wouldn't want to give up their adventures because of the awkwardness that she did not return his feelings. "Stupid cottontails got my mind in the gutter" he thought to himself.

“Reading those comics again?” She chortles at Rune’s antics, “or did you eat all my candy?” She give him a cross pout.
She shakes her head. “Didn’t have room for the flame-thrower, this time, sorry,” she giggles.
“What was that about my butt?” she asks sternly(har har), having missed what he said, rooting through her backpack to find some moisturizer for her rapidly drying, aquatic skin. She shivers slightly; the air is getting colder and drier all the time.
After hastily slapping on some lotion, she wraps herself in the hooded cloak that her mother had recently made for her: natural, brown, leather with various tiny sea shells sewn to the outside.
“Are you cold? I packed a spare,” she holds up a green riding cloak. “Here, you can be Frodo!” Her mother just finished watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, again, and had made a few identical to it.

"Comics?? I haven't read comics in a while! I went all Indiana Jones and went hands on!" He exclaims, flicking his claw and making a cracking whip sound."And.... I may have ate all of your candy..." He says backing away "I will get you more!" He said hastily "As soon as we make a trip to the land of concrete and steel, promise!" he crosses he heart.
He noticed Alleria moisturizing her delicate skin, he forgets she was adapted more for the water. Their adventures on land never seemed to bother her though, especially since she has that goopy stuff. But still, perhaps they had better pick up the pace, he would hate to see her uncomfortable. He shivers, and makes a mental note to invite her to a beach adventure of some sort for the next one.
Alleria held up a green cloak and he snickers at her Frodo suggestion "Do I look like I have hairy feet??... Oh wait...ok, maybe they are a little fuzzy" He take the cloak from her and flung the cloak around himself.He liked the feel of the leather on his body, and the shells gave it a nice touch. " Come Samwise, we are off to find the elves!" He points up the mountain "And by elves I mean whatever the heck it is that is up there"
They make it to almost the top of the mountain, they just a little more ways to go, but they could already see the ice wall before them. It seemed to touch the sky and glimmer like diamonds. Rune notices a large opening in the wall "Huh, geuss we don't need a flamethrower after all" He turned to Alleria "Still want to continue Ria?"

“You bet!” Alleria replies, “we can go swimming after we see what’s in this cave.”
She pulls her cloak in tighter around her face. A trip to the beach would be great right about now. The warm sand between her toes, the salty air, lounging in the water, there are few things she enjoys more.
She approaches the cave’s gaping maw. “Think the witch...err shaman is home?” Curiosity overwhelming caution, she peeks inside. The yawning cavern stretches out as far as she can see. It was clearly unnatural, although it should be pitch black, the interior walls shimmer and sparkle, emitting a soft, dim glow.
Her footsteps echo around her as she slowly makes her way deeper inside the cave. Click! Alleria hears a faint snapping sound in the distance. “Rune, did you hear that?”

Rune followed Alleria up to the caves mouth. It looked as though the mountain itself would lunge forward and swallow them both whole. "Ria..... that swimming suggestion you had a minute ago?... Yeah, that sounds wonderful!" Rune wasn't afraid, in fact if it wasn't for the cold he would be shivering with excitement, it was the cold that he wasn't liking. Following Alleria's lead he pulled his cloak tighter.
"No one knows what happened to the shaman once she was discovered by those group of demons who was scaling the mountain.... they high tailed it out of there to fast to even get a real good look at her" He followed Alleria deeper until they both heard a click.. Alleria asking if he had heard it, he nodded in response. He put a claw to his mouth in a Shhh action. He dipped into a crouch and invited Alleria to follow, unsure if she would want to.
Another snapping sound, Rune stopped dead in his tracks and looked to his friend "Its getting closer... is there really a shaman living here!?" He whispered. The sound mutated into more of rattling sound, but still far off..."Oh jeez... is that... beads!? Or something?" He quietly flings the question at Alleria.

Alleria mirrors Rune’s crouched stance. There’s no harm in being careful, she figures, following his lead.
She speaks as quietly as she can, “that’s what I heard… she ran off to this mountain when-”
Noticing that the sound has abruptly stopped, Alleria taps Rune on the shoulder, leans in close, and whispers in his ear, “that sounded like...BONES rattling!” Her eyes grow wide, “you think she knows we’re in here?”
She bristles with anticipation, “I wonder what she’s really like.”
