PRINCESS ISLAND

General Information
Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.

There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.

These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.

If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves.
If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.

    Mechanics
  • Your princess has 20 hp
  • First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.

    Brick: 4 d12
    Wood: 8 d6
    Hay bales: 12 d4

The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.)
  • Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess.
    Example:
    My defenses are 5/6/8/10
    The attackers are 3/7/3/8

    The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2
Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP.
  • Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP.
  • Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.

  • Trainees: 0 hp bonus
  • Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path
  • Hunters: +1 hp to each path
  • Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

It took her a full week to fully heal enough after the infection before she felt more like herself, but when Abbi woke up one day and was able to shout, she felt ready.
Her schedule had been mostly cleared due to her inability to properly speak since she'd suffered serious, but thankfully not lasting, damage to her vocal chords in the attack. That meant she had been given a few days of "free time", though the higher up's fully expected her to continue working on other things. When Abbi woke up and found her voice back to rights she felt no qualms with taking personal time to tackle little projects she hadn't previously had the time to devote to.

After a quick jog and a hearty breakfast, Abbi sent off a text and headed to the specialty training areas.

Text to Dr Duffy
Paging the doc! Meet me at the Moon training course is... IDK 15 minutes? 10? If you're not busy we're gonna do a training course! >7

Never once bothering to question his own hectic schedule, she instead stood with her hands on her hips and surveyed the two little islands set up for them to practice on.

The infirmary had been hell for the week; people coming in and out from the infection that had spread half of them with injuries that made him question what half of them even did when it had happened. It made him regret taking so many voluntary shifts due to half of the staff calling in with their own injuries and between sleeping on a cot this had been his first morning off not that he didn’t have a night shift early in the morning tomorrow but he would embrace what small break he had now.

Matt slept in a little, rolling around in his bed before getting up and putting on his gym clothes. Snacking on a granola bar he headed out towards on of the paths to run as his phone started to buzz in the armband.

"K! Be there in 10!”

Heading back to his room he grabbed his weapon and coat not bothering to change out of his running clothes and headed off to meet Abbi at the Moon Training grounds. Waving to her when he got there he hoped he wasn’t too late with the detour.

While she had waited Abbi had poked around the stacks of materials they would be using for their training. Mostly it was just something to do, but she also used the opportunity of time alone to test out her voice. Since she'd been on forced vocal rest for a week (her throat was still streaked with yellow blotches from where she'd been strangled), there was still a bit of rust to be ironed out in her speech. This translated to Abbi taking up the habit of talking out loud more than she normally did, and today it meant she was singing herself a little song that consisted of counting the objects in the piles of supplies.
She almost kept singing when Matt arrived, but managed to resist the urge to serenade him.

"What's up, Doc!" She greeted with her own enthusiastic wave, grinning brightly. "Betcha been busy lately? Sorry I wasn't in the Infirm to help, kinda was healing from my own stuff." Not sure if he'd seen her file when she'd been brought into the infirm after the incident, Abbi was prepared to divulge all her wounds a moment later and gave an expectant look to Matt.

With greetings out of the way she waved him forward and began picking up a stack of bricks.
"So I think my island is over here, and yours is that one... Let me know when you're all set up!" Abbi grinned and rushed off with her wobbly stack, hurrying down the path and toward her princess.
And to her immense surprise she found a double of Scout sitting in the middle.
"You... Er... I mean..." The teen walked up to the dummy princess after having deposited the bricks and heaved a sigh, frowning up at it.
"Glad to know they take this whole 'protect others' thing seriously." She hadn't planned on tackling the course with anything other than sincere dedication, but Abbi was a little put off they'd given her the cutest Hunter ever to protect and watch potentially suffer a terrible fate.
Not cool Moon course, not cool.
