This is totally a bit late, BUT since some of us just applied to high schools and others of us just ('just') started high schools, I figured, why not?
Spaz about your apps. Commit seppuku over not getting accepted to your number one choice. Choke and splutter over bad grades or bad teachers or college. And make us all feel bad with your GOOD grades and GOOD teachers and GOOD evaluations.
SINCE I'LL DEFINITELY BE DOING A LOT OF THE LAST D8 *shot*
(Side-note: you don't have to be in high school to post here - I just said that because at the time of this posting, a lot of us are / shortly will be.)

OK. I will be spending my FIRST post planning out my loose to-do for the next three years. biggrin heart This will be absolutely boring to everyone except for me, or maybe even INCLUDING me. It's obviously not a conversation starter - that's YOUR job.
Goal: to get into Yale *AAAAH GEEKHEARTTHROB* and other such good schools for college.
(Isn't this sad - I'm a freshman and brainwashed for college already! No, don't worry, folks, my school didn't force it on me - a senior friend who really should be tortured was talking to me about apps, and ... we freaked together ... and after screaming and crying and flagellation I was hooked. And then shortly after that, a Gaian friend posted a link to a forum where people were discussing stats and crap, and I freaked even more. Etc.)
MAJOR FACTORRRRRS
1. Stats. -Try to get FULL (800/800/800) on SATs - go and borrow some SAT book some time to check the essay guidelines. Practice essays. Should not be too hard. -Figure out what AP classes this school offers (not too many - school prefers smaller branches in different fields rather than consolidating everything in an 'overall' class...FAIL), get into said AP classes, take AP exams, try to get all 5s - I might have already gotten into AP Drawing (didn't check YET but chances are 99%) so that's good. -SAT IIs. Should be able to take blodgey SAT II right after this year. Study some more because damn but I don't want to get a single point off if I can help it. -If ever in Britain, take British tests too. Or Canadian. Diversity = pwn, and I want to try this! (Although I have to memorize THEIR spellings.)
2. Ranking I don't think my school HAS a ranking, but this shouldn't be too hard. I'm aiming for Top One Percent, and I can only think of five people in my class who would be very, very hard to surpass (the rest will come with time and effort), so I'm not too, too worried. However, the teachers have this box labeled 'top 10 in career' or whatever, and that will be hard, hard, hard. Luckily, my teachers love me right now, so I'm going to keep that up and just try really hard. We'll see how it is after this term (1st year is always a killer for me - fall, I'm clueless, and winter, well, I have SAD, so spring is the one to watch out for). If I get much better at math and basically do all the work, I should be fine. And keep up my 'intellectual vitality' (paraphrased quote because it sure as hell didn't exist in the winter). Then I should be fine.
3. EC / Hook FAIL DDDD8 This is the one that I have to work on. I'm a lame loser so I forgot to sign up for things in fall so there's NOOOO CHANNNNNNCE that I can sign up for things this spring. SO. 1. Sports. I don't PLAY sports, but I guess I have to start. I could start with running and get better at ... I'm not really good at any sports ... but I have three years; I might be able to get a varsity letter in SOMETHING. Note to self: check during the summer. 2. Community Service. I've already filled in some hours this term (didn't check how many) and can probably apply for Workman's Grant next summer (no time this summer). If I get the grant, then that fills both Community Service and Hook (not really, but a bit more than otherwise) and Awards. I need to plan out 'leadership in community service' soon, though. LIKE REALLY. 3. Awards. Academic awards - I can try for national merit when I retake the SATs or something - note to self: do scholarships! Scholarships = life right now! Get better at math fast! I don't know. I'm a bit tired and can't think. Basically this entire section is the one that needs the MOST work. 4. Distinct Hooks. I'm thinking 'language' will be one of my hooks - 'diversity' tying in - and of course 'connections' is a semi-hook, since it's just THERE. If I can tie Workman's Grant in with 'language' then it'll be perfect because I'll be able to do something I love and look great doing it. Wow, I sound so vindictive right now, but hey - this is a rough schedule for the next few years! I'm not worried about sounding nice. I can also work on music because everyone has music but you have to be semi-ok. And maybe art. But I suck at art. So maybe not. The main thing about 'hooks' ... you just have to be passionate. And this is more or less the core-root of my personality (I think - unless it's 'impatient' or 'spontaneous'?) when not afflicted with SAD and other such disorders. (I really have to work on that last, but I don't want to take meds...)
4. Other to be filled in when I think of it.
Ok, end note to self.
