He looked absolutely disheveled and exhausted as he staggered out on the shifting sandy beach. He needed a break. He probably looked exactly like his division about now - death. His phone still buzzing in his pocket as someone else was asking for help. He checked to be sure. Not Rep. He turned his phone off and re-pocketed it. His stroll becoming slightly more and more erect and precise as he walked, the more he relaxed and allowed himself to forget and become him. He was alone, after all... absolutely - huh?
He noticed something in the distance, difficult to make out as they were drowned out by the blindingly whiteness that was also the beach sand.

Lawrence had been spending most of his time since the attack on the island primarily working in the infirmary, what time he had to himself he had been spending visiting either Horace or Melvin. Today however, there was a few hours where he had nothing at all scheduled and everyone else was completely busy, so true to his nature he'd sauntered off to be somewhere that work presently wasn't.
What Al had spotted was indeed Lawrence, reclining in the shade of a beach umbrella, dressed in shorts and a straw sun hat and sitting on a white towel as if he was on vacation on some sort of exotic island (which he was). There was little breeze, the ocean was a rich crystalline blue and with his book in his hand and a cooler full of ice by his side he looked the very picture of relaxation.

Al approached curiously, posture gradually returning to being somewhat hunched and uncertain. They looked sort of familiar and yet not really. He was sure he was supposed to know them... it was on the tip of his... he inspected them at a distance. Not even trying to approach them too closely in case he might startle them. He actually even back tracked a bit so he could shout a greeting from the distance, "Hi there!"

With sunglasses on it was difficult to tell if Lawr had spotted Al, but But certainly had and had started barking and snarling long, long before the other man got anywhere near him. He let the other hunter back off without a response though, and instead very neatly saved the spot in his book and set it down on the towel next to him.
"Howdy pardner." he said, waving as he recognized the young man. "It has been a while. Al, right?"

s**t, he knew him. But not him him. That armless clone, right? s**t, no, he wants to forget that entire adventure. He tucked his hands in his pockets and glanced down at his feet rather than at the other man.
"Aye, I'm Al. Jan, right?"

"Indeed." he said said calmly. "Jan."
He remembered the boy and had read his comments many times on twitter and had him somewhat classed as a "minion" but not one that was in any way of any use to him. He seemed more inclined towards obeying burly rude meatheads than in being of any use to perfection.
"Lovely day." he said idly. "How have you been keeping? Still hiding food like some sort of squirrel?"

Al looked around at the sky then the sea at the mention of the day's condition. He wanted to correct with how exhausting it had been for himself, but clearly Jan was here to relax and not be burdened with talk of work. "It is now, I suppose."
But then the comment made him silent again. It is the same man, isn't it, what the hell happened? Why was he so... "Yes." but more importantly, "you seem... different?"

"Do I?" he asked, quirking a brow. "I can't imagine why pardner, I'm the same old cowboy I have always been." Perhaps a little more minus a hand on this occasion, perhaps marginally younger courtesy of some very useful moths but certainly the same person he had always been. It was surprising the strange twinge of uncertainty the question brought forth in him, a fracture of doubt in his normally unshakable concept of who he was. Something about him had been altered, Chantelle was out there walking around without his input, without his control and he could not know if anything else was different, if anything else was skewed.
"Makin' me self concious now I swear it." he said, looking himself over.

"Younger," Al affirmed. There was something else though, the hand thing was too obvious. This he couldn't quite put his finger on, certainly not enough to properly pin down. The weary comfort of the older gentleman was welcome before. He felt a little more unsure, anxious, than the last time they'd met. He wasn't so sure he could trust this Jan. Maybe it was himself that simply got older, too. He frowned a little but shook his head slowly. "How have you been? Got promoted?"

"Colour me flattered then pardner." he said with a smile. "Not every day I get told that I am looking younger rather than older." He rolled onto his side and propped his chin on his elbow. "I cannot complain. There were a few months there where I was podded for some unpleasant misunderstandings, but as you can no doubt tell I am back to freedom and fine fettle."
Al was looked over with that same strange attentiveness. "I am an intermediate now, I forget what I was when we last met. It has been some time since I was promoted regardless, and I have changed division to Life since then too."

Al chuckled, "I'm death. I guess that makes us mortal enemies?" He waggled his eyebrows a bit to give away the fact he was joking. But there was still a distinct anxiousness. He was uncertain. But kept to the subject for the safety of the subject. He had various questions dancing in his head. "You were newly woken up, I think," that wasn't really one of them.
He pondered about certain things other people said... but he knows how rumors tend to be. "How's your weapon?" He seemed to recall something about a cat weapon but isn't very sure he was remembering correctly.

Lawr also laughed. "Maybe it does, but my significant other is also a Death, I do not know if he'd consider himself my mortal enemy." His tone was also jovial and jokey but there was always some hint that there was something perhaps more sinister underneath it, as if it would be very easy to shift gears from the joke to the literal. "Ah perhaps that was it, if I was newly woken up then I was not perhaps getting much sleep, it also took some time for me to acclimatise myself to the frankly gulag conditions on this island. "
He smiled at Al, remembering the lies he'd told the other man with the skill only someone who had spent so long living them could possess. But rather than echo them, he wanted to play with the hunter and see how he reacted to twisting the truth in another direction. "He is fine, still noisy of course, but at this point I am acclimatised to that as well."
In his head Butch was repeating over and over what he'd like to do to the other dog he could smell, could feel. Lawr let him ramble.

Al's face scrunched up ever so slightly at the remark of a Significant Other. Was that who he thought it was? No. Oh no. He very quickly tried not to think about it at all. None of it, especially not the inclinations that trail lead through.
Al couldn't even remember the name of the other man's weapon, so any changes were simply lost on him. It did not help that Nuru was thinking about something else entirely, being not in the least bit useful. Something about pork sandwiches? ******** weapons sometimes man.
Al smiled politely, "would you mind some company for a bit?"

Lawr raised a brow slightly at Al's reaction to his comments, but did not comment on the array of expressions that flitted over the other man's face.
"Certainly not a problem for me. I am merely whiling away the time until my next infirmary shift."

Al went over to sit in the sand next to Lawr's towel. His guard was still very much up despite choosing such close proximity but he chose to hide it. "What do they have you do in life? I am with a lifer now, too, but they mostly spend their time in the labs experimenting I think."
