IC

Word has spread among hybrids in town; Phaedra and her anger had killed one of them. The gossip ranged through different rumors: she'd been in love with the hybrid but rejected, she was simply a hybrid hater, she hated alkidikes, she was insane, the hybrid had stolen something of hers... Rumor mills took the truth and warped it in many ways; and now some of the local hybrids were going to do something about it!

The young teenagers had had enough of being threatened simply for their mixed blood and they were going to show they could fight for themselves and it was gong to start with the source of the rumors; one young girl called Phaedra.

Quest Tasks
||. The quest should start with Phaedra hearing some of the more wild rumors.
||. She can either be warned or may be surprised when she gets confronted by a group of young hybrids.
||. The group will be about her age and aggressive, they will attempt to beat or kill her.
||. She must try to defend herself, convince them they have the wrong idea and that she is atoning for her part in the hybrid's death. The quest's grade will not depend on if she is successful or not, just that she tried.
||. The quest should end with the hybrids leaving; either after being convinced or after a fight.

The Rumors
Part One

Lately she had been getting odd looks from people. Phaedra wasn't sure what it was about or if maybe she should be concerned. Was it due to the fact that she'd befriended Chalcedony so quickly? Or that she now had an Alkidike staying at her house for a few days? She blinked and kept her eyes on the ground in front of her as she walked. The way people were staring was starting to make her skin crawl. When she reached the market the looks got more and more obvious. Feeling completely uncomfortable Phae figured that she could get her things and then head back home.

It wasn't until she got to the vendor that sold what she was after that she learned what it was that was causing everyone to stare at her in such a manner. “Did you hear? She killed a hybrid just for looking at her the wrong way.” Those words reached her ears and she closed her eyes. Apparently the news of what had happened in Neued had finally reached Sol. And it wasn't the truth either. “I heard it was because the girl wouldn't give her a lower price on some cloth.” Eyes bore into her back as people continued to talk about her. “Someone said that she only ordered the hybrid's death but didn't actually do it herself.” This came as a loud whisper. “What a coward.” Came the voice of someone else.

When Phaedra opened her eyes again she was met with shocked expressions and sneers from her peers. Wearing a frown she looked at the vendor and opened her mouth so ask about a product. Before she could say anything however, the man behind the stall lifted his hands in surrender. “I'll let you have whatever you want for whatever price. Please..” Phaedra closed her mouth and could only stare at the man before she took a deep breath and sighed. “I'd just like a small head of lettuce.” She reached into her pouch and brought out the gold that would pay for it.

The man thought she was reaching for a weapon and threw the lettuce at her. Phae had to react quickly to catch the airborne vegetable and it resulted in her dropping her money to the ground. When she had the lettuce in hand she bent to pick up what she had dropped. “Hybrids shouldn't go near her, she might kill them too.” A small chuckle came from the owner of those words. The leafling was feeling very much on the spot. “Nah, its the Alkidikes that she doesn't like. As long as you aren't half amazon you're good.”

That wasn't true! The brunette wanted to protest to all these rumors but she knew to do so it would cause more of a scene than there already was. Phaedra placed the gold on the stall for the vendor and turned to leave. There was more shopping that needed done but she couldn't finish it today. Not after everyone was still staring and whispering about her behind her back. Before she could get too far an Alkidike walked past her but made sure to bump into her shoulder rather rudely. “Excuse me.” Phae said. The yellow skinned amazon glared at her as she passed and it made the leaf girl think that it wouldn't be safe for her to be out on her own anymore. What with rumors of Alkidike extremists and now the rumors flying around about her hating them and any who shared their heritage. Phaedra groaned and did her best to hurry out of the market.

The begining
Part Two

Phaedra felt her heart racing as she noticed the way some youths were eyeing her. It wasnt just from the rumors, it was as if they had something planned. Facing forward she picked up her pace and attempted to run from the market. She was hoping to make it out in time to lose those that were starting to follow her. The brunette knew she needed to make things right about the rumors. She had to find a way to get the truth known. While she'd had no direct hand in the girl's death it was her hateful words that had spurred on the attack. Sill, she did not hate hybrids. Nor did she dislike Alkidikes, not since speaking to the girl's mother. Obans she was sure she hated, but after meeting Reillan she wasn't so sure anymore.

She heard shouts behind her that told her she wasn't going to get away so easily. She closed her emerald eyes and prayed to the spirits that she could defuse the situation before it got out of hand. However, when she opened her eyes again she had to stop her running. There were three hybrids in front of her. Two rather angry looking females with their arms crossed over their chest and a male that looked like he just wanted to spit in her face. When Phaedra turned to look behind her she saw another two blocking her path. Effectively she was surrounded.

Breathing quickly she looked back at those that now stood in front of her. “Excuse me. I need to get home.” She was hoping if she was polite and simply stated where it was she was going then they would let her go. It wasn't the case. The group of hybrids took a step closer to her and glared, hard. “You ain't goin no wheres.” One of the girls said to her. Phae blinked and made eye contact before she let out a shaky breath. “If this is about the rumors.. please, they aren't true.” At least not in such an extreme manner. Getting these hybrids to see it that way would take more than just her word and Phae knew it.

As the male stepped forward the two girls lowered their arms from their chests and the leafling was almost positive things would result in a fight. “So you hate hybrids, huh? Think you can get rid of us? Are you some kind of Alkidike sympathizer?” The boy's words were strained and full of hate. Phaedra shook her head and paused only to take a deep breath. “It isn't like that. I apologize for what happened to that girl, it wasn't right. I never intended for anyone to die when I was in Neued. I didn't think my words would influence such an event.” The three started to advance on her and she backed away, one hand held up so as to stall them. “Wait! You have to believe me. I didn't speak about killing. All I said was that we should stand up against the Alkidikes that have been hurting others.” She could see her words were getting her nowhere.

“Shut up.” One of the angry females in front of her stated. Phaedra groaned and gave another look behind her at the pair that was blocking her retreat. So rather than go back or forward she took off to the side. Holding her head of lettuce like a football the leafling ran out of the market. She wouldn't be able to outrun them, since their mixed blood gave them Alkidike's long legs, but she could at least limit the damage around them by getting to an empty street.

How it ends
Part Three

Just as she thought would happen she was overtaken by the group of hybrids. One grabbed her by the arm as another twisted their hand into her hair. Phaedra let out a yelp when she was yanked backward and lost her footing. One foot left the ground but the other stayed put, it was just her knee that buckled and gave out. The leafling fell hard and landed on her back. Before she had time to react to that pain another source exploded at her side. The male that had been in front of her before she'd taken off running had just kicked her in the side causing her ribs to hurt.

Phae rolled to her other side and attempted to get to her feet. She needed to get off the ground! That was really all she was thinking. When another kick came at her it hooked under her waist and slammed into her stomach. The force left her breathless and she coughed, almost getting sick. “Stop.” She gagged out. The hybrids laughed together at her words. Too confident in their numbers they momentarily halted their assault to share in the mirth at her pleading. It was the window that she needed.

Instantly she was on her feet and stumbling. Phaedra didn't intend to go far. She'd tried running already and it hadn't worked too well for her. Instead she made it over to a broom that was leaning against someone's house and once that was in hand she felt a bit safer. It wasn't near as deadly as her trident but it would do in a bit of a bind. She certainly needed a weapon to even the playing field now that she face five attackers. “I told you. It wasn't like what the rumors say.” She tried once more to talk to them but they advanced again and didn't seem too keen on listening to her. The leading male spit at the ground as he advanced, his glare murderous.

When he made the move to fully come at her she planted her feet and gripped the broom handle. When he got in close enough she thrust the bushy end of the cleaning utensil at him and hit him square in the stomach. A bit of payback for the hit she'd taken, even if it was the wrong attacker. “Stop this. You got it all wrong!” No matter how intent they were on hurting her she would try to talk them out of it as she defended herself. When the male showed no signs of stopping his advance she brought the broom up quickly and slapped him under the chin. She used only enough force to make him bite his own tongue. No one could ignore pain like that.

She was right. He brought both hands up to cover his mouth as he groaned and mumbled something. Still, he moved away from her and she was thankful. Only, what came next was the two that had blocked her retreat. One male, that looked scrawny, and a female that looked like she'd been in her fair share of fights. Phaedra gave a groan of her own. “Please just leave me be. I didn't mean for that girl to get hurt and I don't want to hurt you.”

When there was no sign that they intended to do as she asked she shook her head. Phaedra didn't like this. She usually was gentle, however the trip to Neued had shown her that she had a bad side. One that was hateful and it was that side that was the cause of this. The brunette needed to call upon that side to help her out of this. When the two attacked at once she reacted to them. First she stepped toward the boy, since he was the smaller of the two, and she hit him with the blunt end of the handle. Her hit landed on his shoulder and caused him to have to stumble back a bit. That also opened up a window for her to focus on the female as she swung. Phaedra looked in time to get the right hook to the jaw.

A bright light burst into her vision and she fell back, landing on the ground with a hard thud. It was enough to jar her spine. Within seconds of her landing there the hybrid was upon her and landing blows left and right. No one else joined in, thankfully, since it seemed she had things under control. Phaedra could only defend where she was able and curl into a ball where she was not.

The beating lasted for what seemed like forever to Phaedra. “Maybe now you'll think twice before you go around hurting our kind! Worthless earthling” The girl landed a final blow to the leafling's face and withdrew. The others of her group were grinning ear to ear and seemed pleased with what had been done. Since there was a metallic taste in her mouth Phae knew she was bleeding. Likely in more than one spot too. Satisfied that punishment had been dealt the group walked away from her.

When she felt they were far enough away she uncurled herself but didn't bother trying to get up. Phaedra lay there for a bit longer. Tears of pain had built up in her eyes and she wondered if beatings like this were going to be a frequent thing. If so she really needed to learn to fight. First she needed to get home. When she had that thought firmly in her mind she began looking around through her blurred vision for her vegetable. “Where the hell did the lettuce go?”
