Roll a Ten: Playground Field: The field looks like an average playground. Grass mostly covers the field floor, but sand surrounds the areas where the jungle gym, see-saw, swing set, merry-go-round, monkey bars, and trapeze rings are set. Scattered around the field are a baseball, a soccer ball, a football, and many other types of balls. A tree stands at one corner of the playground with a tire swing hanging from its strongest branch. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to NORMAL type attacks.

Lyle trotted out into the stadium and smiled when he saw today's battlefield. This was such a fun one! Too bad the pokemon he was using today was too big to enjoy it. He tossed out his pokeball, which burst open to release Jade. The Flygon hovered over the field, the wind from her wings sending balls scattering, while they waited for their opponent to arrive.

"Hi there!" called Emalthya, entering the stadium. "I hope you weren't waiting long. It's a fun looking field we have today- I hope we don't mess it up too badly..."

She glanced up at Pheonix, who had been snoozing in the stands while she was in the stadium building; a great many of the doors were too narrow for comfort for him, though he managed them well at need. He now stretched and lifted himself in the air up with a few powerful beats of his wings and landed beside his trainer. He nodded good-naturedly to Lyle, rubbed his trained on the chin with his nose for luck and flew onto the stadium, joining Jade.

"That's a lovely flygon you have," admired Emalthya.

Lyle smiled and waved back at the other trainer. "Nope, we just got here," he assured her. He hadn't noticed the Charizard up in the stands, and was a bit surprised when he flew down to the field. At the complement, he said, "Thanks, her name's Jade. Your Charizard looks nice, too."

Then it was time to get the battle started. Against a Charizard, a Rock-type move would be best, so..."Jade, start off with Rock Slide."

Jade began beating her wings faster, producing a humming noise. Large rocks floated up from the floor of the stadium and hovered around her for a moment. Then she flicked her wings toward Phoenix, which sent the rocks flying towards the Charizard.

Pheonix saw the attack coming and swiftly dived out of the way. truly, his bulk made it difficult for him to change directions, but his speed was like a thrown shot-put.

"Type advantages, hey?" asked Emalthya, a wicked grin blooming across her face. "Oh don't we have a trick. Pheonix! Solar Beam!"

As a rock move was super effective to both of Pheonix's types, fire and flying, so too was a grass type move super effective to one of Jade's types, ground.

Jade dropped down in time to avoid the beam of light, skimming low along the ground for a moment before swooping back upward.

"Nice dodge," Lyle encouraged. "Now try Rock Slide again."

Jade again summoned several large rocks, which rose up from the ground before shooting towards her opponent.

Pheonix was hit from below by a boulder, winding him, but at least he was thrown up, not down. He coughed a few times to get his wind back.

Emalthya stared upwards at him with concern, but he showed no sign of major damage. "Use solarbeam again when you're ready, Pheonix!"

Pheonix flew in a circle to regulate his rhythm, absorbing sunshine. Then he released another solar beam at Jade.

This time Jade wasn't able to dodge the beam of light, which knocked her flight askew, but she quickly recovered. She may be a Ground-type, but she was also a Dragon.

"You're doing fine, keep at it," Lyle told her.

She opted to start flying in circles around the stage so as to present a moving target. As she flew, more rocks hovered up from the ground beneath her, and quickly shot towards Phoenix.

Pheonix wa struck by the rocks and decided to emulate Jade and move constantly, though she was more agile than he was.

"Use dragon claw when your trajectories intersect!" called out Emalthya.

Pheonix altered his course to be at a higher altitude than jade and dived down when she was close enough to attack with his long claws.

Jade spun out of the way of the other pokemon's attack, then swerved away to put some distance between them. She didn't need to be close to attack, after all. Once she was far enough, she gathered more rocks and hurled them at Phoenix.

"Oh, if she thinks she can out-race us, she's sadly mistaken," said Emalthya is a low voice.

Pheonix rolled with the blows of the rocks and stayed in the air, then he raced after Jade.

"Dragon claw again!" called Emalthya.

Pheonix drageged his claws along the air, aiming for Jade's back.

This time her opponent's claws struck her, but Jade quickly dropped away to get out of reach. Then she flapped her wings hard and shot up past Phoenix. Rocks rose up in her wake, briefly forming a comet's tail behind her. But they soon dropped away, heading towards the Charizard.

Pheonix took the blows and almost before they hit, he was seeing the inside of his eyelids. He woke up to a breathless sensation, with his heart racing. He blew air out of his nostrils and if he had not been heavily trained, he might have accidentally singed his trainer, who had used a revive on him.

"Congratulations," said Emalthya in something like her brightest voice. "Are you feeling all right, Pheonix?"

Pheonix licked her face and she wasn't even annoyed.

Lyle had withdrawn Jade once he saw her opponent had gone down. He smiled when he saw Phoenix's trainer go to revive him, and left to get his own pokemon healed.
