He moved slowly, dragging his feet in the sand. The young matori male seemed to be lost in his thoughts. A good indicator being that he nearly tripped over a rock that was jutting out of the ground. Gael took a minute to right himself, his body wanting to topple over as his feet couldn't decide who was first. Pausing he'd stare down at the offending rock then look forward. In truth he wasn't even sure what he was doing out here. Or where he thought he was going. Bringing a hand up he'd scratch at the back of his head and mess up his ponytail a little.
Since the fight with his brother he'd been walking. By now he was sure he wasn't even in the same village. Not that it mattered to him really. Gael liked the fresh air. It was much different than the stuffy air that always seemed to be in his house. So many siblings and extended family piled up in one spot could get a bit tense. If not smelly. After all, he had more brothers than sisters. With a deep breath he'd lean his head back and start walking again, letting his eyes focus on the clouds above him.

Kani had been spending a lot of time by the shore recently. It had been the only place she could just sit and think about things without getting distracted by people wanting her help. Though here recently it seemed everyone had the same idea. Go to the shore to think or wander. She just wanted time to herself, but as she came up on a very distracted Matori boy she figured that wouldn't be allowed. He did seem quite zoned out, so perhaps she could sneak by him. It was worth a shot, but then again she wasn't exactly the sneaking type. She would just have to see if he was up to something or needed help. Her father would be mad if she didn't help. "Are you lost, or simply wandering around these parts on purpose, sir?" she questioned, calling out to the wandering boy.

At some point his ear fins gave a small quiver, indicating that there was something making noise nearby. And then he heard it. A female voice calling out to him and asking if he was lost. Gael brought his head back to it's proper position and turned to look at the speaker. He gave a small face, an expression of thought, then shook his head. "Not lost. At least not physically." A half smile would light his face as he looked the girl over. She was cute and after the initial look he seemed to bring his eyes back to hers. "I'm no sir. You can call me Gael." Not that he didn't like being called such but it made him sound stuffy. If she had been an Oban he might not have corrected her.

"Well then, Gael," she emphasized his name since he had stated that is what she should call him. "Do you often wander around slowly and aimlessly, or is today just one of those days?" Sometimes she had days like that where she just wandered, but never to the point of not paying attention. She had watched him trip on a rock a bit earlier so she knew he wasn't paying too much attention to his surroundings. Perhaps he had something important on his mind, or maybe there was just nothing going on in his head at all. Either would work. Though she doubted there was absolutely nothing. She would just have to see.

"Eh?" He blinked when she emphasized his name then laughed. He hadn't meant for her to sound like that. Though he supposed it was funny. "One of those days." Gael gave a single nod of his head and then looked around at where he was. Then he shrugged. "You ever one of those days?" The young male came to the conclusion that she must have. After all, everyone did at some point in their lives.

Kani shrugged, wandering closer to the other Matori. She supposed she did, every now and then. Though whether or not she had had one recently she couldn't really remember. She just liked wandering along the shore a lot more than in town. Maybe that was her days. When she idly walked with nothing better to do than listen to the sea beat against the shore. "I guess from time to time I do," she replied, bending down to pick a shell she spotted. "So are you from around here? Or maybe just getting back from Oba?"

He again gave a nod of his head. He had thought she had days like his. Or at least this day of his. What caused those days for her was a mystery and he was content to leave it that way. Maybe if he knew her better he might ask about them. "I've never been to Oba." He stated to her as he watched her pick up the seashell. The girl had some shells on her top so he assumed she was just like the rest of their race and loved the things. Gael had none on him, not even as a keepsake. "I guess I am lucky in that aspect." After all, there were so many Matorians that had been forced to go there. Some even remained there now. "Honestly I couldn't tell you if I am from around here or from farther down the shore. I wasn't paying attention to the distance."

"Oba is not a place any of our people should be. It isn't pleasant," Kani stated, shaking her head at the memories she had of that place. She hoped to never return there. She just wanted to stay in Matori and keep helping her family. "It's unfortunate that you got lost, unless you were meaning to. Then that's not so bad I suppose," she continued, trying to be pleasant with him. She was curious if he needed help or not, or if he really was just wanting to wander by himself. If he wanted to be alone she would let him, and if not she would help him in any way she could.

Ah. So she had gone into the fire earthling territory. He snorted a little in agreement to the fact that Oba was no place for their people. "Were you a slave?" Not exactly subtle. Gael was just curious as to why she was there.Of course she didn't have to tell him. The young matori had seen plenty of former slaves that didn't want to talk about the days they were in Oba. "I guess you could say I wanted to get away." And away he was. Certainly he wasn't anywhere near the vicinity of his house.

"My entire family was. We escaped just before the war ended and made our way back here. Not that here is much better. There are refugees trying to find their way home constantly." Kani explained, tilting her head at the boy as he spoke. Most Matori wanted to be near their family or home, not away from it. "Why would you want to get away?" There had to be a reason, though if he wanted to share or not was really up to him. If he didn't she would respect his wishes on the matter.

"I am sorry to hear that, though happy to know you escaped." Gael nodded his head at her. Oddly he found himself wondering if she had a brand and if so where it was. It was a question best left unasked. "Heh, I had a fight with my brother. Being home right now isn't such a good idea." It wasn't like it was utterly personal. The young matori just didn't want to go into details.

"Yes that is true. If the two of you got into a fight it would be best for the both of you to cool down before interacting again," Kani agreed with him, chewing on her lip as she thought of what she could do. If he couldn't go home then perhaps he would want to stay around and help her or just go off and do something. She didn't have to be back home for another couple of hours, so for once she had time to spare. "So since you happen to be hiding out for the moment and don't wish to return to your home, how about we go and do something? How does that sound?"

Well at least she understood why he didn't want to be home. Giving his brother time to cool down and especially himself that time was what would benefit everyone in the house. When she asked if he wanted to go do something with her he gave a grin. "Asking me on a date already? I don't even know your name." Gael was teasing at her but he did like the idea of doing something to keep him busy. "Well if you don't mind the company, that would be nice."

At the mention of it being a date, Kani blushed. She hadn't expected that sort of response from him, nor had she thought of it as a date. Though from the sounds of it she supposed that was what it sounded like. It seemed he wasn't serious about it though so she guessed she could relax. She had even forgotten to tell him her name! How distracted had she been? "I apologize for that. My name is Kani." She stated, relaxing once her little panic had ended. "If you are okay with accompanying me then we shall figure out something to do. Is there anything you enjoy?"

"Kani. A beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He nodded his head at her and grinned once more before he motioned for her to lead the way. "I don't mind at all. I warn you though, I don't kiss on first dates. So if you're thinking of trying to steal one." He'd seen her blush and the slight panic but he couldn't help teasing a bit more. "Actually.. I'm not sure. I usually spend my time helping around the house."
