Her long black hair was pulled up in a messy bun as she groggily made her way towards the cafeteria. She was trying to readjust to life at Deus, and it was surprisingly difficult after spending all those months out at that outpost. She had grown used to her schedule of night shifts when she had been out there, so she was struggling now that she had to flip her internal clock on its head again.

Dragging herself into the cafeteria, she immediately made a beeline for the coffee, pouring herself a generous mug full of the drink and taking a big swig. It tasted cheap and heavily watered down, but that didn't stop her from draining the whole mug and pouring herself another.

"This is going to take a while," She muttered to herself, eyelids fluttering closed when she felt a wave of sleepiness pass over her, "But better to fix this now than later I guess..."

It was the second day since Nellie was given the green light to be released from the infirmary for the injuries sustained during the recent attack on Deus that took out a good portion of the second and third floors where the hunters resided. While most of the acute medical issues were already taken care of by Niffy and the antibiotics that she was supposed to complete an entire course of, there wasn't much they could do about the concussion other than warning her that she might get random episodes of dizziness and headaches over the next one to two weeks and that she ought to go easy on herself in the meantime.

The first day was spent rather uneventfully with her passed out in the comfort of her bed to catch up on some much needed sleep given that she didn't sleep very well back when she was in an unfamiliar environment that was the infirmary. She was famished when she woke up the next day, her growling stomach driving her to seek out some form of sustenance from whatever happened to be available at the cafeteria. She was shuffling past the other huntress who was pouring herself another mug of coffee that would hopefully help her get through the day when she suddenly felt a little lightheaded, causing her to list to the side and bump lightly into her.

Flailing a little, she quickly made a grab for the countertop, trying to steady herself as she quickly apologised while hoping that the other girl wouldn't berate her too much for it. "S-sorry!"

The young woman had quite a bit on her mind, which including hunting down her friends now that she was back, introducing herself to the new trainees she had noticed wandering about, and getting an update on what she had missed in her absence.

That last one seemed particularly important, since she kiiind of wanted to know what had caused the--nearly--complete destruction of her room. The floor as a whole had been in shambles, which had made her return to Deus Ex rather...exciting, for the lack of the better word. Eva couldn't claim to have been surprised, though--it wouldn't have been the first time she lost her room to something or the other.

Lost in the thoughts, she hadn't even registered the presence of the other girl until she was suddenly bumped. The tired, glazed look in her eyes immediately disappeared as she turned to regard the other hunteress with a reassuring smile.

"Oh, no, don't worry about it!" Eva laughed, waving away the apology with her free hand, "You okay? Lost your balance there?"

Nellie had heard about the destruction of the dorms that affected the veteran hunters who resided in the upper levels. As soon as the network was reestablished and everyone on Deus had access to Twitter once again, the news was all over the social media channel and apparently some of the rooms were so badly damaged that the hunters who were affected had to make arrangements to lodge temporarily with their friends till repair works were underway.

Although it was very selfish of her to think like this at this point, Nellie was really really glad that the first floor and the basements that the trainees were staying in were unaffected. Not that the veterans deserved to have their rooms and possessions that they had worked so hard for wrecked just like that - she wouldn't wish that upon anyone she knew on Deus really. It was more a practical concern since she couldn't think offhand of a good location to temporary house all the affected trainees if such a catastrophic event ever came to pass.

"Yeah. Suddenly felt a little dizzy there but it's all better now." She returned the smile readily, innately relieved that Eva wasn't the type who was going to kick up a big fuss over such an incident. "Is... everything really okie?" Still, it wouldn't hurt to confirm that everything was indeed fine and she hadn't caused her to spill her coffee on her clothes or worse, get scalded as a result.

"Everything's fine," Eva assured her with another laugh, setting down her coffee mug so that she could sweep her arms out dramatically, "See? A-okay! No spilled coffee--my uniform is as pristine as ever." Taking up her cup again, she took a sip of the bitter liquid before peering over the top at the other girl.

"But really, what about you? Suddenly feeling dizzy doesn't sound like nothing if you ask me." Brows creasing in concern, she glanced about the room before jerking her head in the direction of food. "Is it because you haven't eaten yet today, maybe? Because if you want to join me, I was about to go grab some breakfast." Contrary to her zombie-like state earlier, Eva appeared significantly more awake now that she actually had someone to converse with, blue eyes bright with excitement. It had been so long since she had met a new trainee!

Speaking of which... "I'm Eva, by the way! I'm a Death hunter, though I've been gone for a while now. Guard duty at the outpost, and all that." Wrinkling her nose, she gave a little flap of her hand. She had been grateful that the work hadn't been terrible, but it had also been pretty boring out there. Not that she meant to say that she enjoyed all the violence, death and horror that her missions from Deus had brought her, but...

Man, did she ever miss the people here.

Looking Eva over and confirming for herself that the Death huntress was indeed alright as she had said, Nellie finally nodded and allowed a smile to cross her face as she twiddled her fingers. "Nellie's glad then. Nellie's fine really. The hunters at the infirmary said that it'll be another week or so more till the effects of the concussion go away completely."

She explained, not at all wanting Eva to worry unnecessarily over her well-being when her stomach decided to interject at that moment with a rather loud growl. She blinked, her entire face flushed now at how embarrassing that was while she tried to put that behind her to resume the conversation as if nothing had happened. "... but some food will be good."

Waiting for Eva to start moving towards where the food was supposed to be located, she tapped her index fingers against each other a few times before introducing herself. "Nellie's from Mist. Been here for almost a year now. How long was Eva away for?"

Hopefully Eva would pay no heed to nor mind the odd way with which she spoke very much.

Although Eva immediately noticed the other girl's way of speaking, she made no move to bring it up. After all, there was nothing wrong with it and it didn't bother her, so why did it matter? Instead, she focused on the implication that Nellie had someone suffered a concussion--that was made Eva's eye pop wide open.

"Geez, what did I miss? Rooms are destroyed, people are getting concussions--" She faltered, her heart fluttering at a sudden thought, "Is...to your knowledge, has anyone been badly injured? Or...worse?" Faces flashed through her mind in rapid succession. She hadn't had a chance to catch up with her friends yet, so she wasn't sure if they were all safe and sound as she had initially expected, or if in her absence...

She shook her head sharply to clear her mind of those thoughts. No, she was probably just worrying too much. Desperate to focus on something else, she made her way towards the food and grabbed two trays. "Oh ho, Mist! And wow, almost a year, huh?" She furrowed her brows in thought, pushing along the trays and grabbing the offered plates of food to set on this, "I guess I've been gone for about a year now too, give or take. I kind of sprung in and out once or twice, but I've spent the majority of the year at the outpost."

"There was an attack on Deus about a week ago. Nellie's not sure what exactly was behind it but there was a large figure that destroyed the rooms and created that large crater in the training fields." Nellie recounted, trying to fill Eva in to the best of her knowledge as to what had happened in her absence. She didn't have all the facts but she tried to make up for it by being thorough on the off chance that the Death huntress might have an insight as to what was actually happening back then.

"The fear shields were down and there was something that made people hurt themselves and turn on one another. Nellie doesn't think that anyone's dead but there are some who are still recovering in the infirmary." She didn't realise how vulnerable she was and how much she missed Niffy until whatever was blocking their bond went away eventually. She never wanted to go through that ever again.

Seeing that Eva had grabbed two trays and was piling plates of food on them, she followed after her, occasionally chipping in a plate or two lest they needed up with too much food on their hands. "Yeah. How is it like at the outpost? Did anything interesting happen out there?" Grabbing one of the trays, she looked expectantly at Eva, letting the more senior huntress decide where they should sit.

"Was Eva's room destroyed too?"

Gods, she really had missed a lot, hadn't she? She wasn't sure whether she was grateful for that or not. On one hand, she had missed the entirety of the battle. On the other, she hadn't been here to keep an eye out for the people she cared about to ensure their safety.

On a related note, however, it sounded as if most people had come out of the conflict alive, if not injured. Eva breathed out a deep sigh of relief, murmuring a quiet "thank goodness" beneath her breath before glancing up to offer Nellie a smile. "You have no idea how glad I am to hear that. Though...something that made people hurt themselves, huh?" Her brows furrowed at that; it sounded like something that had been incredibly hard to deal with. That basically implied that people were forced to attack and fend off their own friends and loved ones, right?

Whatever it was, she hoped that it had passed now. Gesturing for Nellie to follow her, she selected one of her usual tables and slid into the chair. "The outpost was..." She wrinkled her nose and shrugged, "Not that exciting? I mean, I should be--and am--grateful for that, but there wasn't anything of particular note, really. Other than the fact my sleeping schedule was totally wacked up."

"And yeah," she sighed, lifting her fork and spearing a carrot, "My room is quite the mess right now. How about you? Did you get through okay?"

"Nellie hopes that Eva's friends are alright though. Has Eva been in touch with them all this while?" Nellie followed Eva's lead, moving to sit on the chair that was directly across the Death huntress after setting the tray down on the table. "So people just... guard the outpost is all huh?" She nodded, sliding the glass of orange juice she had snagged across the tray to bring it to her lips for a sip.

"Yeah. Seems like only the second and third floor were affected." Which kinda sucked big time really since full hunters like Eva probably had more stuff in their rooms that would require replacing compared to trainees like herself. Replacing the glass on the tray, she looked Eva over for moment then posed a question tentatively. "Does Eva need a place to stay in the meantime, or help cleaning up the mess?" Her room might be small but she would chip in whatever she could.

Nellie, Eva decided, was a very sweet girl. "Thank you. And unfortunately, not really." Laughing awkwardly, Eva brushed her hair over one shoulder and absently combed her fingers through the dark locks, "Reception out there wasn't the best I think, and it was just kind of hard to keep in contact with everyone with all these things going on at once." She did regret it through--it would have been decidedly less lonely had she been able to text her friends during her stay at the outpost.

She absently sipped at her water, only to brighten up when Nellie spoke again. "Oh, that's good! I mean, it's not good that so many people were affected, but I'm glad to hear that you guys' rooms are all fine!" she smiled brightly. At the unexpected offer however, Eva was quick to put her hands up in protest, her eyes growing round.

"Oh, no, I don't want to impose either way! I was thinking of just cleaning up the debris in my room and staying there. I need to replace some things and find a temporary fix for the holes in the walls, but..." Shrug! "But geez, aren't you a sweetheart for offering!"

If they had been sitting next to each other, Eva would have reached out to give the other girl a squeeze. Instead, she offered the huntress a warm smile...which immediately turned into a grimace when she took that first bite of her bland meal. Blech.

Picking up a fork, Nellie used it to sift through the food that was on her plate. "But now that Eva is back, Eva can always go look them up. Nellie's sure that Eva's friends will understand." She would if her cousin Lilac or some friend of hers in Deus had to go away for a while to answer the call of duty. Fighting against the creatures of Halloween formed the very basis for their existence so she couldn't hold it against anyone if he or she had to be away for an extended period of time because of an assigned mission.

Scooping up some scrambled egg, she munched on it with a thoughtful look crossing her face. "It's no trouble at all really. Nellie was just thinking about how bad it will be for Eva if it starts to rain heavily. Besides, Eva's room will be dusty, messy and probably difficult to live in till things get fixed..." She tried again.

Eva took another bite of her food before answering, her face crinkling at the flavour again, "Yes, I certainly hope so! I'll definitely look for them within the next few days and make sure that they're all okay." And send out an unnecessary amount of texts, probably, but that could wait until she was a little more situated. It was going to take some work getting back into the swing of actually being in Deus.

And speaking of which. "You really are the sweetest, aren't you?" Eva smiled fondly, propping her chin up on her hand, "Though really, don't worry about me! I'll just start cleaning and replace the sheets and stuff on my bed for tonight if I have to, and it prooobably won't rain today or tomorrow so I'll take advantage of that to fix everything up."

She took a sip of her water before continuing, lifting her brows and flashing the girl a smile. "How long have you been here anyways, Nellie?"

The food from the cafeteria was passable at best save for some that were a sheer disaster to be avoided at all cost. But Nellie had found her own way to cope with it in the past year, setting down her cutlery to help herself to the bottle of ketchup that was in the middle of the table before offering it to Eva with a sheepish smile.

"It helps make the food more palatable." She explained before quickly shaking her head and averting her gaze at the other huntress' remark. "Nellie tries..." Pulling back a little, she took a bite of her food that was now slathered generously with ketchup, looking up briefly before swallowing and giving her answer.

"Almost a year now."

Rather than judge the amount of condiment that Nellie put on her food, Eva laughed and simply nodded in understanding. "I like ketchup too," she admitted, "I can definitely see why you'd use it to cover up some of the less...pleasant flavours." She wrinkled her nose as she stared at their meal, giving it a sharp poke with her fork.

The young woman's brows lifted up in surprise at Nellie's answer. "Geez, nearly a whole year? I have been gone for too long." Eva let out a low whistle and shook her head, "I guess you already know all the tips and tricks of being a hunter here then, huh?"

Like, you know. Don't piss off Caelius. That was a big one.
