Anya sat reading a scroll on the swing, absorbed in its scrawled words. She'd found a friend in town who shared the same interest in writing as she did; it did not matter that there was a good decade of age difference between them, the love of reading and writing made it easy to connect. This scroll was one of her friend's work; a horror story, one filled with mystery, romance and ghosts....

She shivered as she finished the chapter and rolled it up. She only ever read it during the day and outside, at night would be far too scary! Perhaps Lumi or Nimueh will like this story, they seem to be the type to like scary things; Anya thought as she hopped off the swing to put it away. Though I'm not sure I'd be able to read it to them without scaring myself!

I think I should go read something happier, Anya thought, scare away the ghosts and shadows! As she trotted inside, she spotted one of her sisters.

"Hey Lumi,I've got a story you might like!" She said with a smile; surely her friend would be happy to have other people read it!

Lumikani was sitting silently, for once, in their home, her mind miles away as her dark eyes gazed out to the sight and the trees. Lately, her adventurous dreams had taken a larger turn, one that seemed much more ambitious than when she was younger. As a small sister, she often dreamed of climbing as high as she could. Now, as she was on the cusp of finishing her studies and being seen as a responsible warrior sister in the tribe, she wondered what was beyond the world.

So many questions seemed to fill her head, questions she dared not tell anyone around her. A thirst for knowledge and understanding of the others had made her wonder what was beyond the trees, and if she would one day be able to see the world where Aisha's reach was forsaken.

How anyone would choose another over the proven mother was beyond her understanding.

Turning her eyes away, Lumikani caught sight of some of the older weapons in her home before the sound of her sister caught her attention.

"Hi Anya" She greeted with a grin, glad for the distraction as she moved to stand and stretch her whole body from head to toe, "Another story...why are you always reading?" She asked the question with humor, grinning at her sister and moving closer despite her questioning tease.

She wrinkled her nose at the question; "Cause I find it fun. I get to read all sorts of interesting things! Learn stuff from other places or about places I've never visited. Or they're just fun stories to enjoy. Why don't you read more often?" She returned the question with amusement as she held out the scroll. "This one's about ghosts and mysteries. It's a bit spooky so I thought you may find it interesting."

Wonder what she was thinking, staring out that window, Anya thought. She had a rather introspective look n her face... did Lumi have deep thoughts sometimes? As far as she knew their other sister was a bit of an air head.. not one for deep thoughts like Anya.

The other Alkidike let out a scoff in return, shaking her thick dreads at the return question, "Because I'd rather see the places than read about them." She said with a smirk, but still moved closer to look at the words of the book. Despite their differences, it was always nice when they found something in common, and Lumikani couldn't help but appreciate the fact that Anya thought of her in the story selection.

Scary stories, ghost and mysteries...this sounded like an adventure, and it sounded like Anya was in an adventurous mood. Her grin grew a bit devious as she looked back to her sister and stretched her arms up high.

"Why don't you ever come on any adventures with me, Anya? We could find some exciting things...maybe even more books?"

"It's called and imagination; you see the place in your mind!" She giggled; "Though seeing it in person would be cool." Except for the dangerous places, or the places where alkidikes weren't exactly welcome....

She cocked her head curiously, "Oh? What sort of adventure? You know I'm always up for expanding my collection!" Had Lumi heard of something? Though.. considering it was Lumi.. was this a ploy to drag her out in the the wilderness and make a mess or did she actually know of a place to get books that would have an adventure of some sort.

Lumi had an imagination, she just used it to explore and not to read. Her imagination drove her to look farther out and see whatever she could see. However, it seemed as if Anya was in a daring mood today, as she took the bait with some keen interest.

"Sometimes when I'm in the trees I see things on the ground, old things that look ruined." She shrugged. Normally she was stuck in the trees and moving quickly, so she never actually was on the ground. Maybe Anya would like being on the ground and away from the mess.

"We could go and see?"

Anya's brow furrowed. "Ruins?" Maybe it was the fact she'd just been reading about hauntings and ruins but she felt nervous. "Is that... safe? You sure it's not inhabited at all?"

Like with ghosts.. or beasts.. or... people who just.. let their house get run down? She pushed aside the idea of ghosts; Lumi would laugh at her if she mentioned that!

"You sure there's books in there at all? I mean.. if they're run down places I'm not sure any parchment would still be undestroyed." Though she was asking questions, she knew she'd go. She did enjoy outings with her sisters, even if they did end up with messes or her being exhausted!

Half way to the door, Lumikani sent her sister a playful look and a bit of a shrug. Of course it was safe, she had gone through the woods hundreds of times, and never had she caught sight of any stranger or intruder. On top of that, the great mother watched over them, and she would never let them get hurt.

"Of course it is safe. They are all in our borders."

Spinning around fully and marching to the door, she rubbed her hands in excitement before patting her hair and jumping on her toes. Oh yes, here was the energy and excitement she was well known for.

"Stop worrying Anya! Even if there aren't any books in there, we will have an adventure to tell everyone about. You like to tell stories, don't you? Just look at this as a chance to tell your own story instead of those silly ones you are always reading about!"

With that, she held out a hand and gestured for her sister to hurry. It was time to go on a great adventure!

Anya rolled her eyes; "Just cause they're inside our borders doesn't mean they're safe you know. There's bandits, menzuri, radaku... all sorts of creatures!" The world was really dangerous and they were still kids! Almost ready to start training but still not quite old enough to be ready for weapons.

She went to put her stuff away and grab a bag, just in case there was something to take home. "I'll go. It does sound interesting and telling my own stories would be more fun." So long as there weren't ghosts she should be fine!

"Where exactly are we going? Are we walking on the ground or through the trees?"

Lumikani rolled her eyes back, not understanding why her sister was complaining. All of those things sounded AMAZING to her, and just continued to fuel her excitement and need to get them going. There was no time to waste, especially if they ran into a bandit or a radaku!

"Don't be that way, Anya. I've been in these woods plenty of times, and Aisha watches over us."

As she moved outside and into the open, she took a deep breath of air, already forgetting all of her thoughts that she had while inside.

"I usually go through the trees...but we can walk so we don't make a mess..." Insert another playful smirk, before Lumikani caught sight of the bag, and realized it would be a bit tough to go by trees anyway.

Walking it was.

"Uh.. Aisha's a bit busy to watch everyone, Lumi..." Anya said in a doubtful tone. Why would their tree mother protect them? She was a tree. A goddess sure, but someone who had so many children. Would she be able to even do anything? I'm not sure that's what happens, Anya thought, I think we have to defend ourselves not rely upon Aisha to protect us.... But she didn't say that out loud; maybe that was just something Lumi believed?

She smiled at Lumi's jab. "Good, because there's far too many leaves and sticks that get stuck in my hair when I go tree climbing." After a bit of time passed as she followed her sister, Anya couldn't hep but ask;

"So.. how far are we going to have to walk? Is it close?" How far would she have to run if things went wrong?

Her brow narrowed at the comment, and she appeared slightly cross at Anya's doubt, "Aisha is never busy to keep an eye on us, as long as we are within her embrace."

Yes, as long as they were within the great forest and the trees, they were close and connected with Aisha. She knew that, deep in her soul she knew that had to be true. Anya just wasn't as certain, most likely because she didn't have such a strong belief. Maybe it was because of her size - Lumikani always focused on Aisha so she grew up with her mother goddess in mind.

But, Anya wasn't foolish, maybe a bit uncertain, but not foolish. She couldn't blame her sister for being who she was. Taking a deep breath, she let it go and continued to walk in comfortable silence. Normally, the two were quite content with their silence, and both seemed fine with each other's presence alone. Maybe it was the bond.

"Oh...I don't think it's much farther now...but...I'm not sure. I always move faster in the trees..." As she said that, she recognized a fallen tree that stood out in her mind, and she jumped a little and continued her speed.

"This way, Anya! Off the path. We have to go deep because it's hidden a bit."

Elyessi
This is pulling to light some parts of Anya I did not know she had! Fascinating....

We're no where near the tree to be embraced though, she thought to herself but let the topic drop. She looked around, enjoying the scenery. She never tired of looking at nature; especially the interplay of light and shadow through the canopy.

"You should take things slowly every now and then," Anya said with a chuckle when Lumi said she moved faster in the trees. "Enjoy the journey as much as the destination." She quoted her older friend's favorite saying. She sighed as she picked up speed; why did they have to rush? It always made a mess of her dreds!

"Urg.. off the path means into the places where bugs and dirt are." She muttered to herself as she followed Lumi. "I hope you aren't getting me lost just to laugh at me."

Lumikani laughed at her sister, looking back and feeling like they finally had something strong drawing them together. Maybe Anya really did have an idea about the adventure and the journey and the thrill of it all. Of course, she ignored the first part of Anya's sentence, because it was so old and had been heard hundreds of times.

"I swear we are just about there...ah ha!"

She rounded a tree to catch sight of an old, dilapidated hut. It looked as if it would fall down from the wind, and a tree had already fallen onto the roof. It was clear that this building's occupants were long gone, and that left it ripe for the picking with the two girls.

"Finally," Anya muttered to herself, the walk was a bit long.. guess I should start exercising some more since if this little trek is enough to make my feet hurt!

She looked at their destination... definitely not a habitable place!
"Uh... you sure it's safe to go into that?" She asked, a slight quaver in her voice. "It looks like it'll fall..." and there could be ghosts in that... Why did I read that stupid story before this?

She'd still enter it if Lumi did, no way was she letting her sister go there alone! She might fall and hurt herself.. or a ghost could kidnap her and eat her... And she'll come out filthy, she thought with a nose wrinkle. All the dust and dirt that place has to have....
