When I was younger I tried to read Alice in Wonderland in English. My mothertongue is Dutch. So I tried and I found it such a boring book that I even hadn't finished the Tea Party chapter. Also my time was up and I had to bring it back to the library. I was 15 or something, older maybe.
Then years I had still been thinking about finishing the book one day. I was determined to read it, it didn't matter if I found it boring or not. I just deperately wanted to know what happened in the book.
Part of my motivation to read it was Pandora Hearts. Being confronted with Alice in Wonderland by watching a few videos playthrough from Alice Madness Returns just made me more determined. I wanted to know all the elements that came from the book. I desperately wanted to recognize it.
This year I had drawn an OC and she was a unicorn and I didn't know what to do with her. A friend said: "Look, I have this rp-group for fairy tales, there're buncha fairy tales with unicorns! Please join us." Something like that. This wasn't verbatim.
So I had this literature site and typed in Unicorn. I got the story The Unicorn and Lion. And I saw it was written by Lewis Caroll and it confused me, because that couldn't be true as it was a nursery rhyme. I looked into it and the book linked to me was Through The Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There. So I read the chapter and made the background for my character.
Of course that wasn't enough. My character was very super-ficial but I had already joined. School gave me some slack so I decided to read Alice in Wonderland and the sequel. It took me three or four evenings to finish. And to my surprise I didn't find it boring at all. I like it so much! I was completely captivated. I had enjoyed it so much. And for a long time I could remember a lot of details.
People tried arguing with me about it. A fall out I had was about the fact if the Walrus and the Carpenter story was found in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or Through The Looking Glass. I knew it was the second. But people told me no. So I even found proof and it took them a long time to give in.
I am also really iffy about the whole spelling of Dormouse. I hate it when people spell Doormouse (like they had done in that rp-group). I've looked up dormourse before. It's an actual type of mouse that exists. And the Dormouse character was a play on its name! So that's why I am iffy if people try to change it. And I think I have this because I came to have a slight obsession with Wonderland.

Hello! I'm your Vice Captain! cat_biggrin
Now how should I explain....mmm...Well, remember wonderland since childhood, but didn't get into it. HOWEVER, one day my friend (Captain) talk to me about how much she like ( loves it a lot) and ask me join since she made a guild to start her exploration of Wonderland. I said yes and that how got here. I don't regret it at all. Though I'm not active in here that I should, but I pop in here to see from time to time. Plus helping the Captain in places she need.
Well, excuse me, but I must catch Hare that got away from putting tea cups on the table for your arrival, but have a seat! All while I dodge Queen of Hearts soldiers to get that Hare so see you soon when I get back!! heart cat_biggrin (I hope... cat_sweatdrop )
