New Devils on the Block
or
The Kids Aren’t Alright
It’s been ten years since the last fight with the Khaos Brigade. Things have stabilized, but as with most any peace, it is fragile, teetering on the edge of ruin. To insure that the events of the final battle don’t repeat themselves, the Angels, Fallen Angels, and Devils as well as Vali and most of the Khaos Brigade. Loki was executed and Ragnarok was avoided, but there are still those who would like nothing more than to see the complete destruction of all the realms. For their valor in the final battle Rias and Sona were made responsible for Shinseiji-shi, and patrol divisions were created for the Sitri and Gremory houses. In addition to passing out flyers new recruits will have to train under more experienced devils and angels in order to effectively patrol the realms.
With that there is the caveat that all sides are increasing in number at the lower tier, but there is still a great need for leaders in angel, devil, and even human circles to an extent. With each war, each disturbance, there is an almost guaranteed loss in leader-quality members in the realms, and in peace there is an implied arms race in their replacement. Not only does the keep the opposing sides on edge in watching their rivals, the peace being so new and the hatred being so old, but internally there is stress as new factions with motivations inevitably affect change within the politics and social structures of their respective realms, even if they are “purists” who wish to keep everything the same.
Seeing that this change is coming, Riser Phenix, a leader in the house of Phenix and a terror on the battlefield, has planted an idea in the ears of the high devils: rather than dealing with the influx of clamoring devils, a tournament should be held to weed out the weak, as strength is law in Hell. The high devils saw it as the most reasonable solution, and, rather than excitedly accept, feigned reluctance over it not being their idea. A tournament consisting of four rounds will take place in Hell, ironically very close to the time Kuoh Academy will celebrate their centennial.
In a similar way the angels intend to increase their number with a competition of their own at the same time. As a show of good faith in the alliance, the angels have set up an Olympic-style sports competition to choose their new leaders. The winners will have to demonstrate finesse, power, and sportsmanship in order to be elevated to leader status. As it is now both sides could stand to benefit from recruiting humans at the festival at Kuoh. The only question is: what will this changing of the guard mean for the realms, and what will the Khoas brigade think?
