Zin rocked back and forth on her heels while Zyk hovered overhead. She grinned. "Ready?" she asked the crobat, although she already knew what his answer would be. He was always ready for anything she asked of him.
"Cro!" he responded with an enthustiastic nod. He fluttered out of the trainer's podium, lightly brushing the top of Zinnia's head with one wing. The girl giggled. "Let's do it!" she shouted, unable to contain her enthusiasm.

Al hobbled out before the battlefield using his bone club as a cane. He turned his head over to Cetus and squinted his eyes at her.
"Hey, don't give me that look, you wanted to battle," she said. "So here we are. Let's get with it."

"All right, you pain in the a**, use Headbutt," Cetus commanded her Ground-type as she folded arms across her bosom.
Lowering his head, Al stampeded out toward the Crobat.

"Swift!" Zin said.
The crobat was nearly knocked out of the air by his hard-skulled opponent's headbutt, but he recovered quickly and opened his mouth, releasing a spray of stars to hassle the marowak.

This time, the crobat truly was knocked clean out of the air. He hit the ground hard and crumpled.
"Zyk!" Zinnia exclaimed in alarm. "Giga Drain!"
Zyk clambered onto his stomach and opened his mouth wide to steal some of the marowak's energy.

"Use Flamethrower!" Cetus commanded.
Al opened his mouth and a fiery beam shot out towards his opponent.

Zyk was roasted like a Farfetch'd on Thanksgiving. He shrieked in pain, landing quickly and rolling on the stadium floor to put out the fire.
"Zyk!" Zinnia cried in alarm. He wouldn't be able to take many more critical hits like that! "Giga Drain!"
Zyk opened his mouth, eager to regain some of the energy those burns had cost him.

Despite being bad for his hip, Al rolled out of the way of the Giga Drain. He then rushed up at the Crobat using another Headbutt.

Still on the ground, Zyk was completely vulnerable to the hardheaded pokemon's headbutt. He felt something crunch, and sincerely hoped that it was the stadium floor buckling beneath him rather than his own bones.
Taking advantage of his opponent's proximity, Zyk attempted to bite Al for a more effective Giga Drain.

Zyk scrambled away, but he was too slow on the ground and got singed again.
"Get in the air!" Zin shouted. "You can maneuver there!"
She was right; Zyk forced himself back into the air before opening his jaws for another Giga Drain.

Height was to his advantage, and Zyk was able to soar above Al's reach. He was hanging on by a thread, but not quite out of the battle yet. He swooped lower so he could steal more from his opponent.
