Tsunami floated in place, eyes upward in awe over the grand pirate ship floating in the waters before her, nestled close to the dock. The little mer had guessed the pirates (or at least she hoped pirates owned this beaut of a ship!) had come ashore to do whatever it was pirates did, as she didn't see much if any movement on board at all.
Darn!
Oh well, it was still a niiiice ship! The little mer filly bobbed about in the water, diving below it and around it to check it out from all sides, each side more impressive than the last. "Wooaaaaahhh man so cool." she breathed to herself, letting out a giggle as she flicked her tail fin about. "Ahooooooy! Anyone up there?!" she laughed some more, putting her hooves up on the side of the ship to try to boost herself up so she could see on deck better. Ruriska <3 Hope this setting is ok xD; However you wanna make it to where she learns he can't swim is up to you!

"Aye?" The response was a loud but questioning one, followed by a face peering over the ship railing. Jolly Roger peered over the edge of the ship and stared into the water, brow furrowed in confusion. It wasn’t everyday you heard a call from down in the water and the pirate squinted his good eye, trying to get a better look. Some kid swimming next to his ship? Well, that wasn’t good! "Aye, you right there lassie? It’s dangerous to-" He paused as he spotted what appeared to be the shape of a tail beneath the waves. Fea Line i'll probably make him all in XD

When she heard the unmistakable tone of a pirate voice answer her, Tsunami could hardly contain herself. As soon as the dark green unicorn complete with eye patch poked his billowy maned head over the little merfilly had to stifle a squeal. Of course his question didn't go unnoticed, it just took her a while to stop her excited giggles. "Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?! What's dangerous!" she both grinned and asked, wondering if there was some sort of trap below the ship for dangerous sea creatures....
Hopefully not for cute little merponies like herself...right?

"The sea is a harsh mistress, not fit for the young and vulnerable," he warned, not that she seemed to have any trouble swimming, a fact that had not gone unnoticed. That was one particular skill he had yet to master and he didn’t relish the thought of having to jump in and save her in the case of a freak shark attack, only to have her probably save him instead. "Aye then, why not come aboard?" That would also give him a better look at her tail.

Oommggoooooooosh he talked so much like a pirate eeee!! Well, He was a pirate...but eeee it was all so exciting! Wiggling madly Tsu attempted to thrust herself aboard right where she was, only to sink a bit back into the water. "Its not that bad down here!" she grinned, flicking her tail fins under the waves. At his request her eyes went wide. "REALLY?! I CAN?!" she shouted as she scooted around to find a better point to climb up, not exactly sure how one got onto a ship from...well down here.

His crew had spent countless days and nights sailing, searching for the elusive mermaids they know must roam the ocean. Now there was potentially one trying to jump up the side of his boat. "Aye, lass," he said and trotted along the length of the ship. "Can ye climb?" He asked as he cast a rope ladder over the side. It hit the water with a splash, the ends drifting with the tide.

Tsu about exploded from excitement, if she wiggled anymore she might make the entire body of water vibrate with her. In her haste to reach the rope she failed to pause to consider if she could actually climb or not with only two hooves and set to trying anyways. "I think so!" she grinned, not going to let the lack of back legs stop her now.
Kinda.
Sorta.
Ok it was harder than she thought. "Ummm...well maybe..." she blinked, feeling like her lower half was only weighing her down as she tried to haul herself up by her top half only.

She was struggling. That was obvious. Well, he figured, a fish tail probably wasn’t the best for climbing. “Hang on,” he called and started to haul at the rope, leaning precariously forward and… Jolly Roger shifted to take the weight of the filly and the heavy rope ladder and lost his footing. He tumbled down with a splash, immediately engulfed on all sides by water. His mouth opened instinctively for air and the water ran in, up his nose and down his throat, making him choke. The boat, the boat was right there, it had to be, if he just. But Jolly Roger’s deepest secret was that he couldn’t swim and all he could do was flail uselessly.

Tsu held on tight to the rope as he started to pull her up....and then he came closer. And closer.... and closer!! He was almost on top of her and she had to thrust herself sideways to avoid being landed on as the pirate came crashing down into the water with her. "Oh I'm so sorry!!!" she gasped, placing her hooves to her mouth.
And then she realized something.
He was struggling. Flailing around. Choking. "Swim swim!" she screeched and in panic dove under the water to latch hold and push his head above water. She wiggled herself to pop her head out but still didn't let go of him to keep him steady. Thank goodness water made heavy things not so heavy. "I gotcha its ok!" she bit her bottom lip not wanting to say anything.
But she was now thinkin this pirate couldn't swim.

He wasn’t sure which way was up or down and it wasn’t until something small but firm started to tip his head upwards towards the surface that things started making sense. Jolly Roger’s face broke free of the water and he simultaneously gulped in air and coughed up water. “Ladder,” he managed to croak, paddling awkward and using her as a flotation device.

Tsu held onto the big unicorn as best she could with her tiny little hooves and used her tail to steer the pair of them towards the ladder. She didn't let go of him, even when they neared the ladder and she was sure he had a firm grip. She was afraid of him sinking again and how terrible she'd feel if she let a really awesome pirate drown! "I'm so sorry... like so super sorry." she frowned, hoping he didn't hate her for it...or that he'd tell her she couldn't go on his ship anymore. She also didn't want to just blurt it right out that she thought he couldn't swim, so she bit her bottom lip instead, debating if she should offer to teach him or not.
Would that be rude?
What if he made her walk the plank for asking?!?!!!

Once he had a firm hold on the ladder, Jolly Roger felt more in control and less like a drowned seagull. He took his time, taking in deep breaths and mostly ignoring the filly beside him, who yes, definitely had a fish tail. It wasn’t until he was certain that he had his strength back that he finally looked at her, both blue eyes on the Merphony thanks to eyepatch slipping halfway up his head. “Put your arms around my neck and hold on,” he ordered.

He was ignoring her. Oh great he was mad! Oh man she almost killed an awesome Pirate she was so doomed! She was going to Davy Jone's locker for sure!
Oh wait...
The mer gulped hard as he commanded her to put her hooves around his neck and not let go. Swimming closer she did so, but gingerly, afraid to hurt him anymore. Though his eyes seemed to just burn into her at that moment. "Um....M-mister... Pirate.... I'm so sorry..." she squeaked softly in his ear, doing her best not to smack his hind quarters with her tail as she latched on.

He ignored her and started climbing. Up the ladder and over the side of the ship, where he then sat, giving the filly a chance to slip from his back whenever she wanted. Even then he didn’t say anything.

The quietness was killing her. Oh man she had so done it now, she was going to be Pirate stew!
When he stopped to let her slide off his back, she did so as gently as possible and landed with a wet thud. She kept her eyes down and shuffled her hooves together. Her mouth kept opening and closing from attempts to stop herself from talking. It was really hard to do but somehow the mer managed it. At least until he said something first....
