Charlotte felt pretty cocky. The activities from the early morning sat in the back of her mind. The way back. The Ivory Rose's smug, naggy nudges weren't doing her any favors, but Char felt good, anyway. Good enough to head back into that Eowyn town, during the actual light of day. She was usually more of a night owl. Just easier to get away with things that way. But her magic flourished in the light. Why not test it out? She wanted to try it. It wanted to be used. A hiss from the wand informed her, 'Not used,' but the details were unimportant, and Char ignored it.

The target male was large, hairy, dirty, muscular, a mixture of Orderite and Dovaa, and likely slow. Charlotte assumed slow, anyway. He had the bulky saunter of someone who didn't run well. His wings wouldn't help him there. And he seemed stupid. Stupid people were the easiest. Charlotte stood behind him. She liked the bump-and-run tactic of her mother, but Char didn't feel practiced enough (or large enough) to get away with that here. And since she was just having a go with her magic, she almost wanted for a little excitement. Not much. But a little. A little was good for everyone.

He stood at a merchant stall, arguing roughly over the price of... leather, maybe, with Char at his back. Not that he or the merchant knew that. The stall owner couldn't even see her, with the man's bulky form shielding her from view. No witnesses. Except maybe everyone besides these two if anyone cared to look. She dipped two fingers into his pocket, with really no idea what she would find, coin, cigars, maybe just spare parchment. It didn't matter. What Char got as he fingers brushed cloth was the man raising his arm, knocking her in the shoulder with his elbow and sending her to the ground with a yelp.

When he turned to glower down at the girl that held his sack of coins pinched between her fingers, Charlotte felt almost immediate regret. He was probably angry before then, she thought, but she certainly didn't make it better. He glared at her, lips twisting into a snarl and wings puffing out. And when he showed his teeth, Char started to scramble. She knew she should run. That was the wise thing to do. But his boot landed on her upper arm, the one holding his belongings and pressed down.

"Ouch!" Charlotte squeaked, the fingers on her opposite hand clawing at the boot to try and dislodge the boot. "'Ey, that hurts! Mister-!" Slow or not, there wasn't probably much she could do once she was caught. And she was caught. She didn't trust her chances at escape so much now.

"Think most little girls should know not ter steal."

He pressed down, and Char screamed, flinging out a white burst of magic power, that while blinding to the eye, didn't give him much other reason to free her. "Help, help!"

It had been some time since Karayan had left the Celestial Plane and gone out into the world beyond it. He had been busy with family issues of varying types, so much that needed to be done, so many parties to go to, and there seemed to always be something going on that kept him at home. It had been fun, sure, but he also knew that it was sort of dragging down his training. His skills were bound to get rusty if the only thing he used them for was to build walls, plant gardens, and various other chores that he found himself given. The house that he shared with some of his family members had never looked better once they'd all come together to fix it but he could only play house for so long.

After saying his goodbyes to those he loved he gone on his way to Eowyn, he'd start out there, practice with his rusty skills, and get back to where he'd been before his extended break. Looking around the area Karayan gave a thoughtful sound, inspecting everything as though seeing it through new eyes, before he gave a happy sort of sound, "It's been too long." He murmured, walking forward, the decorations on his horns and the jewelry he wore all jingling as he moved.

The plan was for him to get supplies that were needed, then head out into the desert, to battle with the dragons that lived in the area, and once he'd sharpened his skills he'd head after more powerful prey. He just had to decide what sort of prey he wanted that to be... of course just as he took the first step forward toward where he'd be buying supplies he heard a scream, one that caused him to jerk his head in that direction. He stood for a moment stock still, unsure what to do, surely some guards would go toward the sound, and fix it? Of course even as that thought came to mind he was already running toward the sound.

As he reached his destination he found himself starring with wide eyes at a giant of a man pinning some tiny girl to the ground with his boot. She was calling for help and it caused him to think of his friends who had been hurt in the past, friends he'd done his best to save, and without even really considering it he attacked. He made a couple motions with his hands, dragging the earth up from under the man, twisting it around the man, tangling him up, "That is enough! Someone your size shouldn't be picking on a little girl!" Karayan spat out, getting a bit sick of seeing older, stronger people throwing their weight around when it came to children. He wouldn't let it happen again.

Not for the first time, Charlotte wished she was bigger. She scraped the nails on her free hand across the man's boot, squirming uselessly against the much heavier man. She didn't think she was that in the wrong. Maybe she had tried to take his coin, but she'd failed. They should be laughing about this. But he didn't look all that humored, and the creaking of Char's arm bones didn't coax any laughter from her either.

She was about two seconds from releasing another scream and angling the toe of her boot up into the man's loins (and boy would she have to run then) when he was plucked off of her like he weighed nothing. Charlotte didn't spare a moment to analyze the situation. She rolled to her stomach and clambered away, scurrying towards the deep sound of another masculine voice. She ducked behind him. A dark-skinned fellow, taller than her. Oblivionite? She narrowed her eyes. He was dark like one, but scaly and could clearly summon magic. A peek up from beneath her bangs revealed horns and scales and actual eyes.

A Dovaa, then. Charlotte beamed, tiny wings fluttering in delight. "Ey, Mister. You didn' hafta help. I can take care a meself."

The man in the earth was less thrilled. He grunted and spat, roughly shoveling at the sands and the stones that bound him. "That brat deserves a little punishment," he snapped. "Tries to steal my money when I wasn't lookin'."

Not for the first time, Char felt the need to point out, "But I didn'. I didn' take nothin'."

Karayan looked down at the girl for a long moment, then gave a bit of a laugh, "Oh? Is that so? I can always let him go if you would prefer?" He said, finding it rather cute that she was saying that she could take care of herself. Even if that was the case it wasn't something that Karayan would allow, wanting to keep the younger generation safe from those that would rough them up. He turned then to look toward the man that he bound within the earth that he'd dragged up from under his feet, giving him a once over, and said, "I don't care, even if that were the case I still feel as though you are going too far. She's a little girl and you're being nothing more then a thug by stepping on her!" It was bad enough that he'd been picking on the girl but that was going a bit too far if you asked the Dovaa man.

Turning his attention back to the girl he said, "You should probably skedaddle, before he gets free of the pillar that is holding him. It's mostly soft earth and sand. I didn't want to crush him or something." He only went to the extremes with those that deserved it and while the guy was far from being a model citizen he wasn't a monster either. He had been careful with the manner in which he trapped the guy but seeing that he was already digging at the earthen bonds it wouldn't be that long before he was able to break free of them if he was really determined to do so.

I really love your avi! It's so pretty!

Char blinked when the man turned to face her, and when he laughed, she flushed and turned away, attempting to hide an abashed grin of her own. The whole thing shouldn't have been funny, she knew. Charlotte rubbed at her arm. When she felt ridges in her skin, purple eyes darted toward it for inspection. Nay, being stepped on wasn't a funny matter, she thought as she traced her fingers over the imprint left by his boot. The whole situation could've been worse, though. That was worth a smile. "Guess ya better keep 'im, then," Char relented with a shrug. She closed her eyes, put her hands on her hips, and nodded along with the Gaili man's words.

A thug, right. Nobody should go about stepping on little girls because of a desire for shiny things. Ladies and shimmering trinkets together was the natural order of things. It wasn't even really her fault. Charlotte frowned in thought, and nodded again.

"Mister, I like you," she told the Dovaa, looking up to him once more. "An' it wouldn' be right o' me to leave ya here with a guy I don't like so much. He's a meanie, ya know." She took the Gaili's arm in both of her hands and gave it a tug. "Ya should let me feed ya, or somethin'. I know a good place, okay?"
