"You didn't need to come with me, Kent. I'm capable of taking a bus."
"Hey, you don't get to make the rules. And neither do I."
The sun was only just starting to set as they walked down the street, heading towards where Kent said he parked the car. "Besides," he went on, "they needed my signature on some things anyway. This kills two birds with one stone."
Tara wrinkled her nose. "That's a terrible expression. Why are you killing birds, anyway?"
"Says the girl who had half a roast chicken for dinner last night."
"That's different. And besides, I-" She broke off midsentence, straining her ears for a sound she hoped she imagined.
Kent smirked. "No comeback for that one, huh?"
"Shhhhhhh," she hissed, stopping in her tracks and looking around. Maybe she was wrong. Maybe it was another hallucination.
What was she so wound up about? Kent stopped too, mimicking Tara's actions more out of confusion than anything else. "What are you looking for?"
As if on cue, a slime-covered monster crashed out of the alley in front of them, trailing ooze in its wake.
"That," Tara answered, barely daring to breathe.
They both stood there, frozen, trying to figure out what to do before the monster made that decision for them.

At times, it was easy to tell how strong a youma opponent was simply by looking at its shape. The strongest ones tended to have a legitimate and unique form to their body. And in the opposite light, the weakest ones tended to be the least formed, barely blobs of chaos that were lurking about.
However, it would have been foolish to absolutely dismiss these slime-balls as harmless. They still had potential to injure innocent bystanders. Nysa refused to underestimate their capabilities.
He had been patrolling upon the rooftops when he had sensed a youma in the vicinity. Utilizing the rooftops, he was able to make quick time in arriving on the scene. From his spot upon the rooftop, he could make out the form of two civilians.
Where as the youma would be easy enough to defeat, a part of the lad shuddered at the thought of the gooey slime mess that would dirty up his attire. It was a hesitation upon his part, but he couldn't afford to hesitate much beyond the initial shudder.
Removing his sabre from its sheath, he held it to his side, aimed at the gooey creature below. He then walked off the edge of the building, weapon still extended and held firmly as he aimed to take care of the youma with one calculated move. Gravity had a way of helping out in matters such as these.
