So far Eleina hadn't had any luck in finding an mentor, and she was thinking of traveling out of Oban to find one. There had to be people out there that would treat a halfblood like her fairly. It seemed that the Oban's wouldn't do it, but she wondered if the water earthlings would be any better. She was barely one of them, and looked less of the part then most, still it might be worth a shot.

She took a sip of the drink she had and looked around. She was sure they didn't have taverns like these over there, or at least she had never seen them before. She really hadn't been there in a while and wondered how things would be. Did they even have shamans over there?

Ichil's father had spoken against her unruly habits more than once. In fact, the relative calm with which he regarded her new profession was nothing short of a miracle. Maybe he thought it'd stop the rebellious young lady from escaping the estate to exist among the common folk. Needless to say, it hadn't worked.

Ichil was dressed less elaborately now, although her braids still sat piled atop her head. She pulled her wrap around her and entered the tavern expecting to find a few pretty men at least. What she saw instead was rather more interesting. That girl, her eyebrows... heck, her eyes themselves! Did she have markings on her forehead? Ichil had heard of hybrids existing between Obans and the Matori, but she had never met one. She retrieved a drink for herself and then returned to the girl, smiling and inviting herself to sit across from her.

"Hello." She was by far the most interesting person in this pub and thus the subject of Ichil's attention.

Eleina was thinking when Ichil sat down across from her, and really didn't think anything of having the girl there. It wasn't until Ichil opened her mouth that she realized that the other girl sat there on purpose.

Smiling brightly she took another sip of her drink before responding to the girl. She was beautiful, and frankly her braids made Eleina wonder about her own hair. Her stone placement was pretty as well. Over all she was a very nice person to look at, and Eleina hoped she would be just as fun to talk too.

"Hello there. How are you doing today?"

It seemed as if she had startled the girl but at least she wasn't being shouted-at, not that that would have accomplished all too much. Her smile remained, and she was glad to have gotten a positive response. Not everyone was quite so happy about suddenly being in a stranger's presence. Hopefully this girl wouldn't recognize her face or name. Only rarely did someone remember her. It was the other nobles she had to look out for.

"I'm doing rather well. My name's Ichil," the archer stuck her hand out over the table, just for politeness' sake. "How about you? Enjoying yourself?" This was a good tavern, in her own opinion.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Ichil." it was an interesting name, though she was pretty sure she hadn't heard it before. "My name is Eleina." she took another sip of her drink before looking around. She wondered why the other had sat with her, it was a welcome surprise but still a surprise. Most purebloods didn't associate too much with people of mixed backgrounds like her.

"Yes, I've been here a few times and I always have a good time. The good and drinks are good, and normally there are pretty interesting people to watch."

Ichil nodded in greeting and looked around the room.

"So you people-watch too, hm?" Was she aware she was the best subject? Probably not, not unless she was incredibly vain and then she probably wouldn't be talking to a random stranger at all. Predictably it wasn't too easy for hybrids around Oba (or perhaps anywhere at all) but Ichil didn't see the problem. Heck, she barely saw the problem with anyone any more.

"So what do you do, Eleina?" She settled her attention back on the girl and sipped her drink.

She nodded. "Yes. It's fun to see people and think up your own ideas for their history. What lead them here, what path will they be taking." she shrugged. "It's always been something I enjoyed, before because watching from the shadows was my thing but now it's mostly because I enjoy it."

The question threw her off, but only for a second. "Right now odd jobs, but as soon as I find someone to mentor me I hope start on the path of a shaman. Yourself?" she assumed something that allowed the girl to fight, and not likely a long ranged weapon. Normally people who had the guts to speak with random strangers were the more in your face kind of fighters.

"Ooh, very nice," she responded with a nod, and then her chest puffed with pride. Finally she had something to offer other than 'oh, this and that.' She had an official title now outside of her noble birth and a decent set of skills and thus was rather happy with herself. "I'm an archer. With a crossbow, though." She hadn't even known such a thing existed until she'd run across that poor man in the jungle. "I'll keep my eye out for a good shaman, hm?" Being nobility, she knew quite a few and could perhaps nudge one in this girl's direction so long as they weren't a terrible bigot. Of course Eleina could never know it had been her, but that was quite alright.

"So what's my story then, if you don't mind my asking?" A smirk stretched across the left side of Ichil's face. "No offense taken, I assure you."

So she was wrong. That didn't happen often, but she was willing to admit when she was wrong. "A crossbow... I'd never seen one used myself. I've heard of them before. From what I understand it takes a lot of arm strength." she admired those that wielded weapons. She had considered it, but magic had a greater pull for her. "And I'd be grateful. I haven't had any luck, I've actually been considering going elsewhere to find one."

When Ichil asked what her story was Eleina's eyes narrowed. You always had to be careful with people when talking about them. "Well for starters I thought that you would be a close range weapon wielder. Like Gauntlets." she froze for a second as she thought. "You look very well put together. Not like a noble or anything, but not like a lower commoner." she paused again, wanting to see what the other said before going on.

"I suppose so," Ichil agreed, looking down at her arms as if expecting her biceps to be bulging inside her sleeves. Of course, they weren't. She turned up to Eleina again and smiled with a nod. "I went out to Jauhar to try and find a good bowyer, and a trainer. I, uh-- well. It didn't quite go the way I'd planned, but I was happy with the outcome. I hadn't even known what a crossbow was then."

She saw the hesitation in the hybrid's face, or maybe it was careful thought. Either way she offered a reassuring smile and curious gaze until the girl spoke. Then came a little laugh and a nod. Gauntlets? My, was she really that big-boned? She was glad she didn't look noble as well, but not looking like a beggar was probably a good thing too, right? "Well. I take that as a compliment."

She laughed when the other girl looked at her arms. "They are bigger then mine." she joked while flexing her non-existent muscles. At Ichil's words a worried began inside of her. What if she didn't get one when she traveled? What would she do? How would she learn. No this was fun and she wouldn't think of things like that.

"It's meant as one!" she assured the other girl. "I couldn't handle such a weapon, not even a crossbow for that matter. Your turn. What's my story?" she was curious. She didn't get to talk to many people, especially many that she could feel give an unbiased look at her. This girl seemed friendly enough.

"I think my father would have preferred I become a housewife," Ichil admitted, offering a brief grimace. It was true, to a point. She'd be safer as a housewife than a noble soldier like him. I only know a little magic. I don't think I'm very good? Besides, I'd decided I wanted a bow, so..." She decided to not go into detail about the bloody war and the emergency at the encampment, nor her opinions of the other Tendajians' weaponry. She was just glad it was over.

"Hmmm..." she mused then, narrowing her eyes and looking Eleina over. She did not usually try to guess a person's life from their look. She was much more apt to go up and talk to one, quite like this. "You definitely strike me as a magic user. Not for any lack of skill in hand-to-hand, of course, you just have that air." Ichil personally did not think there was any definite way to tell what a person's occupation was unless they had a weapon on them, or biceps the size of quhar. It was a moment easily used to back up the other woman's desire to become a shaman, though, so more power to her. "You're strong though. Strong in heart and will, hm? A beautiful young lady, interesting eyes... good style too." She offered Eleina a smile and sipped her drink. She didn't think she was very good at this game.

She frowned. It was never an option for her to be a housewife, no one would have taken her. She didn't realize that there were parents out there that wanted that and nothing more for their daughters. "We don't always do as our parents want. I'm sure that if he isn't already proud of you he will be one day." she nodded her head. When Ichil talked about knowing a little magic she smiled. "I think things work out that way. The things you want find their way to you somehow."

She smiled. She hoped the girl was being honest, and not just saying what she thought that Eleina wanted to hear. It was nice to think that she looked like she belonged as a magic user. "Why thank you. And yes, I've been told that my eyes are my most striking feature." they were what marked her as different, that's for sure.

Ichil smiled softly. Well, maybe some day. Maybe after her first successful battle he'd see she was worth something as more than a noblewoman. She refused to be the silent partner like her own mother, or her sisters as they were growing to become. Of course he imagined a great deal of it had to do with wanting to keep her out of more trouble than she already got in.

"I have to agree. They compliment your hair beautifully." Really, from the way people acted you'd think hybrids were all hideous monsters. She didn't even see anything wrong with the average Matori, although the fin-ears weirded her out a little. "I haven't ever seen then on someone who looks mostly Oban, though." She wanted to ask the girl's backstory but wasn't certain it was appropriate. "Are you from around here?" That was... better. Not especially good, but better.

She beamed, it was always nice to have her unique features considered beautiful and not wrong. "Thank you." as the girl continued she nodded. Yes it was one of the things that made her stand out more then the average mixed breed, it was also one of the things that had kept her safe back when water earthlings were slaves. " Well my father is half Oban, and my mother is pure. So I look more like a pureblood then most." she smiled, happy this girl was taking a change to get to know her and in a nice way.

"I am, however before the laws were changed I always laid low. I didn't want to get myself into any trouble by accident."
