The Kingdom of Ealdan
A small kingdom, currently at peace under the reigning King and Queen. Their territory consist of forested areas, a large lake, and countryside for farming crops. The castle and outlying villages are near the lake, up on a hill in case of floods. The lake borders both the forests and the farmlands, and the locals spend time there fishing and swimming. A few mermaids have made their home in the lake, and assist the fishermen by letting them know which species are overpopulating.
The royal family consist of King, Queen, a Princess, and two Princes. The current heir to the throne is Princess Alena, and the Princes are to be married off for political power and to maintain friendships with neighboring kingdoms.

Name: Eldrin Paeris , or Prince Eldrin of Ealdan, Son of King Paeris Age: 17 Personality: A bit of a dreamer with a kind heart that years for adventure. Stubborn at times, but a sweet soul Bio: Eldrin is the third child of Ohmbryn and Filaurel, and last in line for the throne. His sister, Thalia, has the most responsibility out of the children, leaving Eldrin and his brother to play and dream as children. Eldrin's brother was betrothed at the age of twelve, and Eldrin was supposed to be left to his own destiny, but a small rift between Ealdan and a neighboring kingdom made his parents panic and consider marring Eldrin off. He was miffed, and a rebellious streak within him awoke. For now, he remains unmarried, but Eldrin now has a strong desire to strike out on his own. Characteristics: Eldrin undervalues himself sometimes, but his playfulness normally hides it. He accepts challenges, and if he fails then he acknowledges it (though not happily!)

Name: Murchad Shale-Silver Age: 28 Personality: Sure of foot and of mind, Murchad is one for straightforward honesty and battle tactics. A kind man (dwarf), but often is a bit brutal in his honesty. Often found giving a hand to those who need it, and at the end of the day his hands upon a few tankards of mead (ale, wine, whatever ya got, really). Bio: An adventurer since his 11th birthday, Murchad has never stayed in one place for long. Having struck out on his own at the age of 18, he tends to stay be himself, although helping townspeople along his path. Murchad has siblings, although sometimes even he forgets all their names, back home in the mountain of Granshigrad. He can clean up quite nicely, although the road is no place to be clean and looking like a target. In addition, around his 23rd year of life Murchad was bitten by a werebear, thus afflicting him with the curse as well. A budding witch and her mentor aided him in controlling the curse, an amulet in the shape of a bear's claw hangs around his neck. He can change shape to that of a werebear, but not often and not without consequences. He seems to have more hair upon his body since being bitten, and does tend to like his meat a bit more rare than most. Characteristics: Murchad is sure in himself and his abilities, but always is ready to listen to others on what they think is best. Challenges are something that Murchad loves, always going for them no matter what. He knows when to call it a day, and always respects those who earn it. (The above picture is a close depiction of Murchad's werebear form.)

The Eyes Have Hills I'm glad you approve. I thought they'd be a good opposites attract thing. :3 And if you wouldn't mind starting, I'm cooking dinner. :3 Eldrin awoke slowly, the sun barely showing through his curtains. He sat up, mildly disgruntled - why couldn't he stay asleep? Today wasn't anything special - he actually had the day off... Eldrin's mind jolted fully awake, realizing why he woke up so early. Today was a special day: his day off! He'd made plans to sneak out of the castle and go down to the villages and just... Do what he wanted, without people watching. Eldrin threw off his covers, throwing his messy bedhead into a ponytail rather than its normal style. No royal facepaint today, nor any fancy clothes or jewlery. Just some clothes he'd borrowed from a servant (who he had great faith wouldn't tell his secret) and some food to keep him happy for the day. Eldrin smiled to himself. Today would be a good day.

Murchad drug his weary body into the town. Three weeks. Three weeks he had been on foot since that bloody horse up and ran off from one mountain lion. Just one! "Flithy coward, the lot of them..." he said aloud, still grumbling about the horse. His thick leather armor was dingy and crusted in dirt and who knows what else by now. His clothes stained to brown, unable to tell what color they were, his magnificent beard still looked good, but Murchad knew it was nowhere near as good as it could look. His hair was pulled back, scratches old and new healing upon his face and plenty of other wounds healing along everywhere else upon him. He stopped in front of the tavern and knocked upon the swinging doors. "Hello there? Could a dusty traveler come in? I know it's a touch early but I need somewhere to rest for a time." He could hear the tavernkeep shout a 'Come in!' to him, and her pushed the doors open and trudged inside.

Eldrin, having escaped the castle via servan's paths and left a note on his door (Day Off, I'm Sleeping, Do Not Knock) began his day of freedom. He'd been in the village before, but that was with escorts and eyes staring at him - and he'd been much, much younger. Eldrin doubted anyone would even recognize him without his fancy clothing and facepaint! He passed a few stalls open early, and decided to buy something. What to buy, though? There was food, cloth, various trinkets, and a sweet old lady with fresh milk. Eldrin decided on the milk, and on a whim bought his sister a small deer figurine made of wire. He ended up chatting with the old lady at the milk stall for a bit, picking up various bits of gossip and the location of a good tavern. Now, Eldrin wasn't one for drinking, but he figured a tavern was the best place to learn about what was going on in other towns. Taverns would have travelers, and the market square only help news of what was happening in Ealdan. All he ever heard at home was how many apples they received, or if cattle had died on their territory. Pushing open the doors of the recommended tavern, Eldrin looked around. Only a few people were there; the presumed owner, a dwarf-looking man, a wiry leopard whose gender Eldrin couldn't tell, and a small trio of oddly antlered people. The elven boy decided to sit a few seats down from the dwarf, ordering a glass of water and readjusting his ponytail.

Murchad turned and saw the young looking man. Boy was more like it. He took another large drink from the tankard and let out a sigh. It was nice to relax a bit. His curiousity got him and he turned to the young man. "Oi, you look awfully clean for a traveler. And even cleaner for a drunkard. What's your story?" he said, turning and shifting himself to face him. Murchad always loved learning about other's stories, and of course sharing his own. "If it's a long one let me know, I'd rather get the road off me before listening to a tale." he chuckled, taking another drink. His constitution was pretty high, so drinking the fair amount he usually did wasn't a big strain on him.

Just taking the day off work, and I figured I'd stay indoors until the sun really warms the town up." Eldrin gave a small chuckle and smiled. He knew it wasn't a very good excuse, but for some reason he hadn't bothered to think of a backstory for his villager persona, nor did he consider that someone might ask about him. Hopefully, his smile looked non-panicked enough to be bought. "I'd love to hear any stories you've got, though." Eldrin turned the topic of conversation away from himself. Did people tell stories normally? He had no idea, but he had a feeling this man would talk easily. And to be fair, Eldrin did want to hear any stories the dwarf might have. Tales of adventure, or stories of faraway places, maybe...

Murchad smiled and nodded. "I see. And I can do that. I've been walking for about three weeks. Not one day after I started riding the damn thing, it got spooked by one mountain lion. Just one! The damned hooved thing ran off and I had to walk. Did find a cave however I probably would have missed if I had been on the horse. Found this." he said, holding the large two handed axe up a bit before putting it back on his back. "It was a nice replacement for my old one, which is probably still stuck in that troll's skull." Murchad laughed deeply and tapped the empty tankard on the table as he laughed. "But I don't have all the greatest stories, not yet at least." he gave the young elf a hearty grin as he laughed a bit more.

Eldrin remarked. "And you fought one?" He hoped his awe wasn't showing too much. Three weeks walking, without a horse or any company? Eldrin would have died in three days! "If you need a new horse, there's a few sellers around here. My father gets all his from one quite near here... And there's a public bath house near if you need one." Eldrin paused, hoping he didn't come off as rude. He knew lots of species had different bathing customs: elves bathed almost daily, fae every few days, centaurs bathed the human half more frequently than the horse half... Dwarves, Eldrin had no idea. "Are you staying in town, or just passing through?"

But I'm done with horses. No need for them when my legs work perfectly fine." He stood up, some dirt falling off of him. "Well damn, sorry." he said, pulling out some coins and handing them to the tavernkeep, "Hope that covers everything and the dirt I left behind." Murchad walked over to the door and waited for the young elf to get up.

"The bath house is a few streets back. I actually passed it on my way here!" The elf boy was glad he'd seen it. It made him sound like he actually knew the town, as opposed to just knowing where the horse seller was. The only reason he knew that was because he'd gone, many times, to pick out horses for various reasons. "Do you know where you're going after here?" Eldrin asked. The idea of leaving home and travelling was both terrifying and exciting. Seeing places he'd only ever heard of, meeting new people and maybe even new species...! Nobody would ever recognize him as the Prince of Ealdan - the public hadn't seen him without facepaint and jewlery since he was young, and being a white haired elf wasn't much of a defining feature. Plenty of people had white hair, and elves were everywhere.

I don't have a real goal in mind, save for adventuring and living my life." he said. "Oh, I'm Murchad Shale-Silver. Nice to meet ya." He held out his hand out to shake the elf's, ready to be somewhat more gentle with his hand shake as he knew he could shake hands a little hard sometimes.
