 After a swift hunt and feed, Keshani made her way to the nearest body of water -a stream she had seen from the air- and washed the fresh blood from her muzzle. From what she remembered of stories in her travels, this place that was a mix of forest and plains was one of the last unclaimed areas before one ran into the Valkyrie. Though few spoke of them beyond the usual -warrior females, those that killed in order to send one's soul to a paradise-like resting place- there was a general consensus. 'Keep an eye out, be careful you don't get too close, don't attract their attention, and so on.'
For all that she had seen and done even in her short life, Keshani was not surprised that the herd had earned themselves a wide border with such a reputation. After all, most didn't want to be sent to an afterlife when they could enjoy the present life just fine. Besides, the Valkyrie believed in this sacred place, but what about the common Soquili. Could you get in if you didn't believe? Did the Valkyrie's belief you belonged there count as enough?
Keshani had no way of knowing, of course, since she had never met a Valkyrie. Nor, to her knowledge, had she ever met one they considered worthy of killing to send to their sacred place. So truly, who could say what was true and what was not? But that made it all the more intriguing to her. Just like rumors of the flock were interesting in their own way -Keshani had no relationship with her sister and had been hunted rabidly by her cursed Skinwalker mother, so of course the ideals of a female society where they were bound as sisters would be interesting- the Valkyrie intrigued her. They believed in something, a higher place and a higher calling. There was a structure (or so the stories went), a form to their lives and their beliefs. There was a clear path that they walked, which was more than she could say for herself.
So Keshani wandered in ever narrowing circles, drawing closer to the lands ruled by powerful females with claws and weapons and more legends than truth about them. And now she was here, standing in one of their borderlands, staring off at nothing.
"Wake up, Kesha."
