Kalypse gave a firm flick of his tail, it was heavy and strong easily propelling him forward. He was coming in from the deep water, the kind where Karima rarely flew over because there was no land for him to rest on. The stallion had been out visiting his mother in the reef they had called home for many years before returning towards the land. He had never truly understood his father’s love for land dwellers until he had met his wind. The stallion was strong, and prideful, always a twitter about his wings. Sometimes Kalypse wondered if he was perhaps too sky obsessed but he supposed that if he could fly he’d feel the same way.
The mer shifted easily into the mouth of the river he had plans to swim up. The sun was high in the sky today, and bright, it hit the surface of the water casting ribbons down below. This was paradise and he sometimes wished so desperately to be able to show Karima what this was like. How the lights danced in the water, how free he was to move, how absolutely calm it was beneath the terrifying waves. Many land walkers feared the water, for the great disasters it could cause, but Kaly had never known anything but peace from the ocean. If it was angry a top he merely spent his time in the lower reaches.
He shook his head as it broke the water’s surface, shaking out his mane slightly in the process. He never really cared for the way it clung to his neck after he was outside of the water. It was fine once it had dried, then the breeze would play in it, causing it to flutter the same way it did in the water.
Kalypse swam the rest of the way towards the short sandy beach before pulling himself up to rest in the tidepools there. It was the same place he and Karima always met, it was the place they had first met. He could still remember the fancy wind prancing along, fluttering his wings and acting very much like he owned the area. It had made the mer laugh at him, how silly he had looked, if only he had known then how close they would become. Truth be told if he had known how his life was going to turn out then he likely wouldn’t have spoken to the wind.
The stallion snorted, his snake colored fur rolling slightly with his amusement. Well it didn’t appear that his winged beauty was anywhere around right now, which was fine. Kalypse lowered his head onto the sand, letting his eyes fall closed as he prepared for a slight nap. His tail flicked up and down in and out of the water in the process, it was causing little waves which seemed to have the little fish entranced. The sun was warm, the water was cool, and everything truly seemed right in his world.
