It was more than a little confusing to have two diverging histories running in her head. It made concentrating very difficult, even if she knew that one was fiction, so in some ways...was the other one. Her history was fiction. His history was fiction. It was complex and confusing and it felt like her brain was shorting out, flickering between one fiction and the other. It made it difficult to concentrate and all she could think about was the infirmary that she had not really been in and the soothing calm efficiency of the stitches, linked to something that was...pretty cosmic. But also important.

Something told her she wanted to move to Life Division. She could not quite trace the reasons why, it made sense in some vague uncertain way and that was good enough for now. Good enough to be going on with. Maybe following these instincts would be like one of her novels, finding something destined for her.

H was her goal as she practically skipped to his door, knocked and entered.

"Are you in, Mister sexy science man?" overall, there was something slightly wrong about her, something off as if the mask had slipped just a fraction and was yet to be pulled entirely back on.

"Indeed I am," the doctor replied mildly from the couch.

Chantelle's features lit up even more at the reply and whirled to face the couch. "Oh.. my god." she said eagerly. "Is this like... one of those like...therapy couches? Are you a psychoatrist?" She laughed giddily. "No but like seriously I came to ask something serious, so serious."

She looked a little glazed, tracing her long and elegantly painted nails - this time with markings of seven colours fading to a grim black as she ran out of fingers - over her lips in distant thought. "Oh like. I was to ask like. If you'd. Yeah. I just like, had this WEIRD inclination like, you know...?"

She clenched her hands into fists and her voice flatlined. "I want to move to Life Division."

Turning the page of his book, the doctor replied, "That would be wise, my dear. While your skill set is undoubtedly suited to your current division, your temperament is not. However, you must know that I abhor waste. And you've already been very wasteful of time, trust, and lives."

He quietly tsked.

The my dear was enough to drag the peppy brightness back into the light, Chantelle apparently delighted by the compliment on her perceived skillset though undoubtedly attributing it to her vast knowledge of literature rather than to the ever shifting array of personas of which she was a part.

Lawrence was not typically tetchy, the restlessness that was his approximation of anger seemed to follow little rhyme or reason, surfacing only in select instances of frustration. Evidently however this was one of those instances, as when once again the iciness came over Chantelle's demeanour and features, H was shot a particularly narrowed glare. He evidently, of all things, did not like being forcibly hauled back into himself by the other man one iota.

"One would never be able to tell that was on your personal list of vexations given the liberal reign you afford to all manner of wretches under your - for want of a better word - care." His voice cooled once again. "I will waste markedly less than they do." And it did not matter that his word meant nothing, he did not expect H to believe it anyway. He would waste only what handed itself to him to be wasted, what objectively made sense to waste, and in those scenarios anything that he touched became - by the very virtue of his interaction - of tremendous purpose.

"I would seek to work towards surgery. I should not have to inform you of my experience in this field." With animals. But what was a human if not a pretentious animal?

"Because - " and it was the animals that did it, triggering erroneously some facet of the persona, resonating with kitties and defusing, disarming statements. "Because I like kitties." And it was Chantelle again and she appeared to have no idea what she had just said.

"I totally do science man...erm.. H? That's like, your name right? Like Hannibal? I read those books too!"

The doctor glanced up with an indulgent smile. "I trust your skill, but I don't quite trust you to reign in your more impulsive behaviors. Neither do many others, I'm sad to say. You'll have to earn that trust well before you touch another scalpel, my dear."

"I'm trustworthy!" she said brightly. She was, she'd always looked out for her friends and made as good decisions as she could. Maybe he meant the rude things she'd said to America, but that had all been in good fun right? She couldn't quite understand but she wasn't a scientist either, so maybe she would when she was one.

"I bet I can make you like, really proud! I'll be good at uh...science. Whatever sort of things that means. Are books a science?"

Impulsive. She wasn't sure if that described her. She ..sort of was maybe, but she felt like all the things she did had some reason, even if she wasn't smart enough to figure it out. Something totally more complicated and deep.

"I'll get your trust back." she beamed, swaying on her heels a little. "I'll get it back! I'm good at that."

Placing the book down, H held out his hand toward Chantelle, "Then come here, dear raven."

Chantelle couldn't hide her delight at being called by her favourite name but she did all she could to restrain it as she made her way over to the man on the couch, kneeling eagerly beside it, all wide blue eyes and the lingering smell of a scent that was far too expensive and refined for a gullible goth girl.

"Anything you say sir." she said softly. "I want you to be glad I came here. I want to be the heroine of my own story."

"As do I, my dear." Taking her hand, the doctor lifted it and kissed the back of her fingers.

Everything went dark.

When Lawr woke up, it would be in his own body, back pressed against the cold of an operating table. Standing above him, the doctor removed his surgical mask with a smile. "I had to do a few adjustments, but you should be up and about within the hour. A monitoring device has been installed within your person. I do hope you'll find yourself able to behave within acceptable parameters after this."

Removing his gloves he handed them to the figure next to him. Chantelle beamed down at Lawr, "It was, like, really a learning experience, Uncle Jan. I can't wait until we get to really start training!"

Lawr blinked, once then twice. His entire face felt markedly different, less soft, less pliant. It was almost reptilian the way he took stock of his shape via testing each muscle rather than simply looking. It was another mask, another prison and confine, but it was the most familiar. He couldn't be sure if he felt his hand or merely the strange nerve echo he always felt of where his hand had once been.

There wasn't so much as a twitch of expression as he watched H and listened, taking stock of his situation and adjusting to the whiplash that was the reordering of his person.

Not much could shock Lawrence, most things had no bearing on him, outside his mind and therefore outside his interest, people moved like ghosts without impact or motivation other than that fickle curiosity. But seeing Chantelle there made him start, a full-body flinch like an animal as there was a sudden and twisting sensation of being rent, of being torn asunder, the layers peeled away. The same way he could not resist the golem's hold on the dominant persona he could not stop the way seeing her, hearing her speaking to him moved who she was into a place that he could no longer reach. She was outside, she was not within him any longer.

He slipped into the persona of Jan this time by choice, familiar and easy, under a more concious control but dazed, dazed and unsure. He had never spoken to her. He had known her all his life.

"What did you do?" he said, attempting to sit, looking from Chantelle to H and there was a strange, humiliated feeling that he did not care for. He was too proud to be used...even the horsemen had asked, but there was nothing to go by, no guage of anger to tell if he should be angry. Jan was, at least a little. This was concerning. But it shouldn't have been. "I don't know what y'all are playin' at pardner, but it sure ain't righteous."

Again he looked to Chantelle and there was something grating and horrible in his mind when he did so, something almost painful. "I ain't sure I'm going to be good for much for a bit here honey. Yer old uncle's got a doozy of a headache."

The doctor watched Lawr with a sort of satisfied interest. "Should you feel the need to be wasteful with my resources, I'm afraid you'll simply have to provide for more. I'll leave you two to catch up. Infirmary duties will begin on Monday."

Chantelle is now separately playable. You may not create a new dorm thread for her, but you may rp her as a completely separate character. Her body is incapable of fighting on Hunter terms and has no weapon or shield.
