Teleri Lindai was well-aware of the fact that it was dangerous to wander outside the lands of the Flock. It was something her mother had stressed, and many of the others within the Flock had tried to reinforce. There were rules, in the Flock, rules that came with consequences when they were broken. The Queen made the rules and the Flock followed them, comforted by the Oracle and her Acolytes, safe and superior within their lands. Mares were in charge and stallions followed their rules very carefully, sure to always be with their escort if they were outside of the appropriate zone.

As a filly with no interest in the stallions -except perhaps that which was to be gained when the Whistlers decided to entertain or the Gladiators wanted to show their skills- Teleri had not bothered trying to seek out such areas to explore. There were rules she had no interest in breaking, after all. But the one that limited her exploring, well, that was a little bent now. For instead of remaining within Flock Lands she had gone straight for the border lands, her mother's words echoing in the back of her mind like a distant bell. 'It is dangerous outside the Flock and you are not yet a warrior... You should not go beyond the border stones.'

And she certainly shouldn't be traveling so far without someone, like a Spotter, so they could see the things camouflaged in the forest that her eyes would not show her. Still, here she was, without her mother or Miela or even her sisters, and she was pretty sure she'd just passed the boundary stone for the Flock territory. At least, she'd passed some sort of boundary stone, and she didn't think there were all that many around here. In her studies they had mentioned the boundaries were clearly marked to warn off other herds, because if stallions went wandering and were captured they didn't want the other herd trying to attack the Flock.

Not that Teleri thought the other herd would have much luck. She'd only seen some of the warriors, but they were tough. Not to mention the CursedHunts that the adults whispered about. They were so scary and tough they had their own area within the Flock territory. Another herd would have to be really dumb (or love their male very much) to chance the Flock's ire by fighting to get him back. But that was neither here nor there, Teleri was a harpy born and bred. The Flock would come to save her, not to kindap her, if she needed it.

Or if they noticed that she was missing. But hopefully that wouldn't be until after she'd gotten a bit of exploring in. 'Hopefully...'

With a final glance over her shoulder the tri-wing filly let all of her wings unfurl, stretching to their full extent and flapping lazily. "Let's have an adventure."

~Latonia de la Courtel~
Sorry for being so slow!

Unlike Teleri, a young black colt had no such rules hindering his need for exploration. While his mother and father had a small patch of land to call their own, there were no rules on where he could or could not go. He could do what he wanted, when he wanted, how he wanted -- or so he liked to believe -- and the entire world was his oyster. So long as he made it back to his mothers wings before night, he could do anything!

Still, Ouriel was not the sort of colt to wander aimlessly, or do foolish things. While he was alone, he was not afraid, and he was ever alert. He knew that there were some that cared little for his mother, and less for his father. There were beasts out there that might be looked upon as good, but would be fast to drive out his family, or kill them on sight. Ouriel had learned from an early age that soquili were deceptive creatures -- though his brothers and sisters and parent might look a bit like monsters, the true nightmares were those that had seemingly nothing to hide.

So it was, the little colt had no issue exploring the neighboring lands. What better way to ensure his family's safety than by knowing what might or might not be out there? He generally knew where to go, or how to get back, and if Nimue needed to seek him out she would. But for now, he was going to make sure that his little family was safe. . . .and keep tabs on anyone that might look (more or less) like trouble.

Ouriel knew little of the harpies, or their herd, and probably wouldn't have cared even if he knew of their danger. So it was, the little shadow colt picked his way along, stopping now and then to n** at grass or a low flying bug. So far, everything seemed to be just fine . . . until something white and feathery caught his eye between the foliage. Was that . . . someone else? A threat? Puffing out his chest, standing as tall as he could, with wings half-unfurled, the little colt was instantly alert. "Who's out there?" He questioned, little caring if his voice would draw the attention of others. That was, quite decidedly, the point. Trotting closer to where he saw the flash of white between the trees, he kept his black eyes sharp, and his ears alert. Just in case.

To a child of field and meadow, forests were endlessly fascinating, full of useful herbs and mushrooms and roots to gather for the Flock. Pacing along beneath the trees, Teleri rather wished she could say that wandering was in her blood. Though as she had not the fortune of meeting her sire, she supposed it could be true. Her mother was certainly not the sort, more likely to stay in the Flock's lands and paint and make her art. She had no urge to see what was beyond the lands, content among her sisters.

Teleri loved living in the Flock, but she saw no harm in searching. She wanted to see the world, if only to know what was out in it. To know who was out in it. And not really to bring them back to the Flock, just to know them. She knew there were dangers out in the world, of course... Skinwalkers that could shift their shape, terrible creatures with claws and paws and large fangs. There were also stories of Kalona.. And monsters lurking in the jungle. Big, scary beasts with strange limbs unlike any Soquili known. Things that would kill her, or eat her...

But there were good things too. Things with feathered wings and healing horns. Purveyors of grace and charm and stories, of good magic. And things like that were what Teleri wandered for. She wanted to meet them, to hear their stories.

Drawn out of her thoughts by the sudden appearance of a moving shadow, Teleri froze in her tracks with shock-wide eyes. Did it just speak? Could shadows speak? If they could, it was apparent they could also see... Because he certainly sounded like he was talking to her.

"Umm, I am." She returned hesitantly. "Who is asking?"
