A yawn came from Ariya as she walked along the sandy shore. She had just finished a lesson with her mother about the different paths an Alkidike could take. None of them particularly stood out to her and her mother seemed a bit worried that she wouldn't choose one. It all made her head hurt too much. Ariya didn't want to think about the future or anything like that. Thankfully she wouldn't have to for long since something sparkled in the sand a few feet in front of her. With a smile the young alkidike moved toward it hoping to find something interesting.

It was, at this point, habit for Rishima to return home to the Chibale Isles from time to time. He wasn't certain what he thought about everything going on at the moment with his more 'traditional' sisters, all of them making a bit of a ruckus, but he couldn't be mad. He knew there were just those who had views that opposed his own, it was just a shame that one of those who were so against those like him was the Mystic Aselia. There was a part of him that was pained by it, the idea that she would take such a path, one that diverged from his own so drastically. He merely had to pray to Aisha that he wouldn't be forced to raise his weapon against her. Hurting her was the very last thing that he wanted, especially after saving her life when he was very little. Sighing a bit Rishima walked along, down the beach, and toward where the boats were kept. He'd been able to visit Aisha, being forced to pull rank to do so, and even then was watched as he spoke with her. He prayed for peace to return, for their sisters to find some sort of common ground, and here he was. He'd head back out again soon, back to Jauhar, back to Gerraden. He was quite protective of the younger male, wanted to look after him and protect him from the danger that their 'traditional' sisters may pose to him. Not that he seemed to have any interest in their politics he thought to himself for an idle moment. He paused as his bare feet touched the warm sand, looking out across the water toward Jauhar, then off to one side. He could see a sister standing there, and for an idle moment he wondered what 'side' she might be on. The moment the thought came to him though he pushed it aside. He refused to worry about that every time he saw one of his sisters, he wouldn't try to guess what they might be thinking, nor would he be mad at anyone swayed by Aselia and her movement. Not when he had his own desires and beliefs when it came to their people and what road he'd like them to follow. The accessories in his hair clinked together, giving him away, as Rishima started forward again. His path would take him passed the younger sister, and better that he didn't startle her.

She reached the shiny object and bent down to investigate. Ariya dug into the sand with her fingers, careful of any sharp edges the thing might have, and when she freed it she was pleased to see that it was natural pearl. It wasn't small but nor was it large. When she heard clinking she looked up to see who was approaching and what she saw startled her. At first she thought it was an earthling who had had the gull to come to the isles but then she noticed the antenna and realized it was a hybrid. Ariya stood, pearl in hand, and stared at the male. Yes, this hybrid was a man. It was odd to see a male with the antenna of the Alkidike. Ironically she didn't feel instant displeasure as she assumed she would but experienced a sort of curiosity. How had he gotten onto the islands without being attacked? Why had he come? Why had Aisha created a male? All of these things seemed to bombard her thoughts at once. Still, she seemed to stare at one thing in particular about this hybrid. His eyes.

Rishima turned to looked at the girl, able to feel her eyes on him, and he couldn't help but to give a bit of a chuckle. The look was one that he wasn't really worried about, not was it was it something that was out of the ordinary. He got a lot of odd looks from the sisters who didn't know him or hadn't see him before. Given he didn't see any hostility or hatred straight away on the girl's face, which was a bonus, he felt there was no reason to be on guard. He'd left his spear behind in the boat that he used to get here, feeling that walking around unarmed would show that despite what he was that he meant no harm or disrespect to his sisters. He knew it was a bit dangers walking around unarmed, not all of his sisters were open to his presence. Not that he was all that worried about this particular, she looked to be about prentice age so she likedly didn't have a weapon to pull on him even if she was of a mind to do so. At least he really hoped that was the case. Deciding that the silence between them had gone on long enough the older male gave a smile and said, "Good afternoon, sister, I do hope that you're having a good day." He'd greet her, see how she reacted to it, and go from there he decided. There was no reason not to chat, not when they were both here and he wasn't exactly in a hurry. Gerraden should be alright on his own for a little bit longer, at least as long as it took him chat a little. He was the sort that wanted to make time for his sisters, not wanting to seem aloof or unapproachable. He may be of a high rank but he'd rather everyone feel comforable enough to come up to him, especially nowadays.

She took everything in. The way this hybrid looked, walked, smelled, and spoke. Ariya was still amazed that he hadn't been attacked for being on the island. She'd have done it herself if she'd had a weapon and, you know, been taller. Older maybe. "Afternoon." The young Alkidike said in return. Though she was still transfixed with his appearance. "You're a hybrid." A statement rather than a question. "How did you get.. Why were you not attacked?" It was mind boggling for her. Did her sisters approve of him? Did he hurt them first? "Who are you?" Ariya questioned. She found herself actually wanting to know. Not simply because he was on the islands and so close to Aisha, but also because he was very interesting. "Your eyes.." Her words came out mumbled as she lifted a hand toward his face. "Can you still see out of the one?"

Rishima couldn't help but to give a bit of a laugh at the statement the girl had made, "Yes, last time I checked. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise though, sister, there are a few of us around like me." It was kind of amusing how often people seemed to tell him that he was a hybrid, as though he might not have noticed. He refrained from laughing too much though, not wanting to appear as rude in the girl's eyes when he was trying to have a friendly chat with her. He blinked a couple times when she suddenly asked him a question that had his amusement fizzling out, "Why wasn't I attacked?" He supposed it was a valid question, especially with so much tension in the air due to the growing aggressions by some of their sisters, but it was still a little surprising to hear the question said to him nevertheless. He gave a little twitch of his antennae before he said, "I guess everyone is used to me stopping by? I suppose the rank I hold helps as well, even when it comes to those who don't really care for 'my kind'." As much as he'd prefer that his sisters were all merely welcoming because he was one of the he knew that was a rarer thing then Rishima would like. "My name is Rishima, sister, and you are?" He introduce himself, remaining ever polite while wondering if his name might be one that she'd heard before. He'd run into others who knew his name or reputation but not his status as a hybrid. At least that was what he was thinking until she spoke again, and again threw him off kilter, "I... huh? My eyes? Yeah, I can see through both eyes just fine, they just look a bit different is all." He told her, watching her hand closely for a moment before leaning forward, allowing her to look him over.

"I've never seen a hybrid.." She responded. Ariya wasn't sure if she had offended the man by stating what he was. The alkidike watched as the male laughed then stopped. The switch was almost as sudden as her question. "Used to you?" Well that explained it. She gave a nod of her head, sending her dreads into her eyes. With a flick of her head she moved them out of the way. "I'm Ariya." Since this man did outrank her and was far older she felt it was only polite to give her name. Still, when he leaned forward for her she reached the rest of the way so that she could press her fingertips to Rishima's brow. Her eyes were on his one earthling one as she slid her fingers down and around it. "I have never seen an earthling either. Is this.. Is this how their eyes look?" Ariya blinked and focused on him.

Rishima looked thoroughly surprised at her words, his mismatched eyes going wide, "You've never seen one of us?" He asked, a bit surprised. The idea that his sisters may not have seen someone like him, despite how many there were in the world, it was a little sad. It was a little scary too, having sisters that had never met those like him... wouldn't that mean that they would be more open to the idea of disliking hybrids since they were strangers? A though he pushed out of the way, not wanting to think about such a thing too long as it might sadden him. Instead he merely smiled and nodded when she echoed him saying that the other sisters were used to him. "It's nice to meet you then, Ariya." He told her, giving her a smile. This was a good thing, a blessing from Aisha, the two of them meeting. At least that was what he felt about it. He stood still as the girl set about inspecting his 'Earthling' eye, not flinching away as he did so. Instead he merely waited, giving her the chance, before she said that she'd never seen an Earthling either. That was even more surprising given that there were quite a few Earthlings that lived in Jauhar. It made him wonder if perhaps Ariya had yet to leave the Chibale Isles. It was something that he was curious about but didn't quite feel that it was his place to ask her something so personal when they had just met. "I have meet quite a few of them in my time and I can say that this is basically how their eyes look, though they can also look a lot more colorful then my eye is. Blues, greens, golds, and even more, their eyes come in all manner of colors depending on their tribe." He explained to her, seeing no reason why he shouldn't share with her what he'd seen.

She shook her head at his surprised response. "Niesh told me about hybrids, but I have never seen one. I didn't think they were allowed on the islands." Which would explain her surprise at seeing him here. Then again she'd never seen a male with the Alkidike traits either. Come to think of it, she'd never seen a male. This had her eyes dropping from his face to his body. Her hand remained where it was on his face, still a gentle touch. "You are male. I thought Aisha only produced daughters." Ariya spoke her thoughts out loud. When he explained that his eye was the general look of earthling eyes she nodded. Knowing they came in different colors was interesting too. "How interesting." Finally taking her hand away from his face she smiled at him. "You don't seem afraid of me nor do you appear to dislike me. Niesh said Hybrids are hateful things." It had her wondering if perhaps her adopted mother had even met one.

Rishima looked around for a moment, a thoughful look on his face, then said, "For the most part we aren't allowd here, it tends to be something reserved for those who have proven themselves to the elders. Even then there are times when it can be a bit difficult. It's worth it though, even if it means that for a moment I can meet with Mother Aisha." While he couldn't hear her voice he could still enjoy sitting in her presence, meditating on things under her branches. He knew there were some sisters that didn't care for him doing so but he would put up with their sideways glances if it meant getting to visit with Aisha. Giving a bit of a smile at what she said next Rishima explained, "For the most part, yes. When it comes to our pure blood sisters they are always born as the daughters of Aisha. It's those like myself, hybrids, who have a potential to be born male, as 'brothers'." Giving a soft chuckle he then added, "Though there are many sisters who will still refer to me as 'sister' instead of 'brother'. It's not something that bothers me though, I am quite used to it since my dear sister Jerada calls me that the most." "Hm? I have no reason to be afraid, nor to dislike you, you're my sister after all, Ariya." He gave her a smile, "Hybrids are like everyone else in the world, there are good ones, bad ones. Some are harder to deal with then others is all. As for hateful, I can't say I have met any personally who are like that. In fact one of our hybrid brothers, Yaholo, recently came to plead with Aisha along with his mate and they were granted lotus. If we hybrids were so bad surely our mother wouldn't grant them little ones, right?" Something he dreamed of having one day, provided thing started looking up in the world amongst their sisters.

That made sense. The elders had a lot more sway than the average sister. The fact that he referred to Aisha as mother made her smile. At least he had the respect to do so. "It is good to know that the hybrids respect our mother. I would be disappointed if they didn't." Not that her personally feelings really mattered. She was a young Alkidike not an elder. "I must sound so naive. I haven't left the islands so I don't see anything across the waters." Really she wasn't so sure she wanted to go over there. Earthlings started wars and enslaved others. "Nothing over there seems appealing." Here on the islands she could be close to Aisha and live with her adopted mother. It was bliss to not have to worry about an earthling invading. As Rishima explained that younglings would not be granted to hybrids if Aisha did not think good she nodded. "I suppose that is true, though she could simply be being nice." She shrugged her shoulders. "I want younglings when I am old enough. I just want to make sure I am stronger before I ask." Ariya didn't want to leave the world before her daughters were able to meet her and grow with her.

Rishima gave a nod of his head, "There are many who respect our great mother, those who serve the sisters, and want to serve her as well. There are others though who might not serve our tribe but are still quite curious about the Alkidike and Mother Aisha." He explained, giving a smile as he thought about Gerraden, "I know there are those who were raised by the tribe of their other parent who would still love to know more about our way of life, though it's not something that is really open to them at the moment." He wished things were a bit different he thought to himself idly but kept the thought to himself. "Really? Well, I can understand in a way. I mean I did spend a lot of time working my way up in rank so that I would be able to come here." He gave a smile, then laughed a little when she said there was nothing across the way that seemed appealing to her, "Well, one day maybe something will interest you enough to call you away from the Chibale Isles, though until that happens you should enjoy the peace of this place." Giving a gentle smile he looked back in the direction of Aisha and gave a nod, "That is true, she could be a loving mother who wants to make her children happy. That or maybe she merely wants more children and grandchildren for herself? Hard to say, we can only guess what our Great Mother desires other then what the mystics tell us that she is asking after." A shame that only three people had the ability to hear Aisha's voice, Rishima knew that he'd give anything to be able to chat with her, to know what she was thinking and feeling, especially lately. "Younglings are quite wonderful, I wish you luck in your pleas being answered when you feel you're strong enough for one." He said, wanting to see more younglings born, more happiness, and more peace.

So there were hybrids out there that wanted to learn about their Alkidike heritage. Ariya tilted her head a little. Could they not learn from their parent or another hybrid like Rishima? The thought didn't stay long in her mind as she listened to what the male sister had to say. "I don't think I will leave the islands. Aisha rests here not across the waters." And what daughter would want to be away from her mother? Halfway through the conversation something glinted and caught her attention. Honestly it was amazing nothing had taken her attention earlier. Ariya looked down at the pearl she held in her hand. The light was catching it in just the right way. Her fingers toyed with it for a moment, spinning it to make the colors change a little, then she looked up at Rishi. "It won't be for a while. Maybe not even until I reach the position of guardian." And right there she had surprised herself. Niesh had been bothering her for a while now to pick a path. Ariya hadn't known what it was she wanted to do then. Now apparently, after speaking with Rishima, she did. "It takes time to become strong. Here, like this pearl." She lifted it up for him to see. It took years for the layers to form a perfect pearl. A strong pearl.

Rishima was a little surprised when Ariya said that she didn't think she would be leaving the Chibale Isles, something that caused him to look across the water toward Jauhar for a moment. He could see the appeal, staying at home where it was safe and things made sense. At the same time he knew that there was no way that he could do it personally, not when the person he loved lived across the waters and was currently working so hard to build the two of them a home to live in. He have a bit of a smile at the thought before he looked over to Ariya once more, "You need to do what is best for you sister, no matter if that means staying here amongst our other sisters and near to our Great Mother or if you decide in the future to travel to distant lands." Whatever made her happiest he thought to himself with a smile. "Ah, you wish to be a guardian? That is an admirable goal indeed, sister, and I wish you luck with attaining such a rank." She seemed to have her plans, both for her path in life and her thoughts on children, all in order. He had to admit that he was impressed given her age that she'd already decided on such things. The hybrid's mismatched eyes fell upon the pearl that she was holding, giving a nod as she mentioned that it would take time to become strong, just like with the pearl she held. Mature thoughts and words from someone her age, and again he was impressed. He merely hoped that she continued forward in such a manner, especially when she seemed open at least to the idea of chatting with someone like Rishima. They needed more sisters like her, goal orientated, loyal to their tribe, but open to to a calm chat about other things beyond the Chibale Isles. Giving a smile he said, "Let us both strive toward becoming stronger then, for Aisha, our sisters, and everyone else we care about."

Yes, she agreed with him. Doing what made her happy was what was best. So far she didn't want to leave the islands. So she would stay. Ariya smiled before she handed the pearl to Rishima. "A gift to... my brother. Hopefully a reminder of the words you just spoke." She would strive to become strong. She had to. It was something she wanted, something that drove her, and now something she was promising Rishi. "I would like you to visit. Niesh could learn from you." The young Alkidike nodded her head. Of course that would be an interesting meet. Her adopted mother wasn't very open minded. Ariya guessed it had to do with what happened to her real mothers.
