That was one hell of a dream.

Chel, being somewhat seasoned in these occurrences had a hunch it wasn't just a dream. Not something so vivid.

She leaned over the side of her bed and took a long breath of air. It was never easy transitioning from an alternate world to one you had to assume was the real one. Every memory was twice as real; you were sure of things one moment (Chris was her cousin, they were on the run, fleeing her family and her betrothed- betrothed) and the next they weren't. It was hard to make the mental leap.

On the edge of the covers she sat for a long time contemplating and resorting everything. She was still in her pajamas (what little fabric could be deemed pajamas); she'd been asleep the whole time.

One hell of a dream.

Once she'd gripped reality enough to stand up and make an assessment, she knew there was only one person she really needed to talk to. Chris could come later, Abbi could come later. She needed him and she needed to know she wasn't crazy. Maybe it would have been easier if she was.

She shuffled on a pair of sweatpants from the day before and slipped into a pair of flip flops. It was still dark by the time she left her dorm and she began the short walk down to his dorm. There was a lot to talk about.

He woke up abruptly with a thin sheet of sweat on his brow. It wasn't unusual; sometimes he ran a little too hot, especially if he was sharing the bed with Chel (though despite his complaints he never stopped doing it). No, the strange part this time was that he hadn't dreamed of deserts or cliffs or clones, but something else entirely.

Jack sat up and wiped at his face as the memories assaulted him all at once. Owain helped settle things in a semblance of order, but even then it was an overwhelming amount of stimuli to wake up to. He couldn't remember the last time he had experienced such a weird dream—wait. He could. New Years several years ago, when he had seen everyone who were themselves and yet not themselves...But that hadn't been nearly as vivid as this one.

He couldn't quite process it all just yet, but he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep for a while now. It was a data mine needing to be cracked open, and he needed to discuss it with someone in order to get rid of that restlessness to understand.

Blinking hard, he stretched his limbs, yawned, and fumbled for his glasses in the dark. If Chel had shared the dream, she might be awake; hell, they already had strange sleep schedules anyway. But he didn't have to go far to find her as she was already halfway down the hall by the time he opened his door.

"Hey," he greeted her simply, his sandpaper voice sounding a little relieved. This version of Chel was the one he preferred.

Chel had to chuckle something low under her breath as she watched him come out of the dorm. So he had the same idea then? Her pace picked up slightly to broach the distance.

"Hey yerself. Thank god you got green hair," she muttered, reaching up to touch it once she'd finally hit his doorway. Green hair and small, untrusting eyes, glasses and none of that silly armor. She did miss the wings a little bit.

Her hand fell and she crossed into his room, gesturing to close the door behind them. On her walk here she'd heard other hunters discussing the dream (ever the death hunter, eavesdropping on others), so she assumed that Jack shared it too. Jack hadn't shared Wonderland though, so she gave him the benefit of asking, "You have a weird dream too?"

He studied her as she approached—or more like drank her in. Pink. "Better than boring blond for sure."

He nudged the door closed behind him with his foot, yawning again. "Whatever gave you that idea," Jack replied as he went to sit on his bed. He wondered if coffee was a good idea now. "Was that how it was for Wonderland too?"

"Yeah. 'Cept leavin' Wonderland was a lot more..." She thought of Alice, ripping them from their puppeted bodies, a sword stabbing into her skin before Alice's face greeted her in the shadows. "Rough."

It was hard to bounce between Wonderland, the medieval era and present day. She took to Jack's bed as well, but she sat beside him rather than where she usually did (which was on him). "You okay?" she asked him first. That was what was most important.

"Yeah, just a little..." He made a vague motion around his head, then scooted until their arms touched. "You?" he asked, looking at her in earnest as his brow furrowed. Merlin had been in the dream; proximity alone was cause for alarm, but with Chel's history...it wasn't going to end up being merely part of the dream.

"Lot happened," she said quietly. She tapped his arm with her hand without looking at him; quiet acknowledgment of his presence without indulging.

She hated this haze they both seemed to be in. Enough to kick it in the teeth. "Let's start at the beginning. We'll sort this s**t out." No patience for secrets, even if it left her looking a little winded. "That wasn't really us. ******** up and it wasn't us." She sounded more like she was trying to convince herself.

"<********> no it wasn't," he agreed, the topic helping to wake him up. "******** whoever I was, he was a god damn p***y. Who the ******** goes 'oh I have to die sure okay sounds like a ******** amazing honor for you ******** pricks'."

Jack sighed shortly through his nose. "That's what's pissing me off the most about what I remember so far. He didn't even try."

Chel snorted at Jack's rejection. "Better than hey I'm not gonna trust anyone even the guy who's saved my life a million times for nothin' at all." There were a lot more factors that caused her to hate the medieval Chel, but starting at a base made her feel less guilty.

She shifted on the bed, moving behind Jack to gently put his hair up for him. "I like this Jack more too." Mostly because it was the Jack she knew, and the one she'd come to love. She disliked change. "He's got a better jawline anyways."

He scoffed softly but sank against her fingers soon enough. "Yeah, you were kind of a b***h." Kind of. He closed his eyes. "Who was in your head? Your weapon, I mean."

Chel welcomed the weight, appreciating the distraction. "Sorry about that," she said softly. "I didn't mean any of it, I swear." She'd already done her apologizing to Shun, but she couldn't help the sinking feeling in her chest that maybe, just maybe some part of those decisions had been her own.

Particularly concerning Merlin.

"Eh?" She was taken back by the question, combing her fingers through his hair to pull it back. "Oh. I guess I didn't think about it, but it sounded a lot like Owain." She still remembered the soft whistling noises, the leaf murmurs. "He was so sweet soundin' I think it musta been ..."

"I know." Did he, though? He couldn't help but wonder. (Trust her, he reminds himself, you can do that now.) Jack wanted to talk about it nevertheless, but he wasn't sure he wanted to talk about it right now.

"Sounds like his schtick. Well, that's a silver lining I suppose," he said. "He doesn't remember being in your head, but he hopes it helped." The giant wasn't saying anything of the sort (rather, Owain was busy baring his teeth at the memories of another Tenebrae in his stead), but Jack knew his partner well enough.

Hair secured in place, Chel leaned forward to rest her cheek on Jack's shoulder. "You?" Her hands wrapped under his arms and across his stomach. "Who got t'share that big brain ah yours?"

She feared the worst, but it it would have been one hell of a coincidence...

He leaned his head enough to bump hers gently before lifting again. "Mm, you know. Some relative of that eyesore of yours," he stated casually, as if it was easy to guess. "I can't complain, I only had to listen to him for several hours tops."

Chel's brows furrowed in confusion. Eyesore could easily mean Chris, but Chris was human. Dawson was also human. She really didn't know who Jack was talking about, but leaned on her contextual clues and a shot in the dark.

Her arms squeezed and she took a long breath into his neck. "Even a few hours sucks. At least he's out, right? ******** I'm sorry."

The worst part was that Tenebrae didn't even make a sound in her own head. He didn't need to.
