[Beast-taming was an imprecise art. Experience always helped, of course, but Sebastien had learned a long time ago that each and every beast had its own personality. Sure, there were general species guidelines that encompassed the majority but the herds on the compound were not just clans of identical copies. Some animals were better for certain tasks, some where more people-friendly than others, it was all unique to the beast. That being said, there was a young xaraan in their midst that did not like listening. You tried to herd them all left, he'd go right. Try to get him to submit and get a very loud squawk to the face. He wasn't dangerous by any means, just a bit of a rebel. Sebastien sort of liked him in that way, but it took some decent domestication before the creature would be ready for sale.
Sebastien lassoed said bird from a bit of a distance and tugged, giving a "huh!" to garner the beast's attention. The xaraan turned, looked Sebastien dead in the eye, and began to try and run the opposite direction. Xaraan were muscular, powerful creatures and Sebastien laughed, tugging back on the rope.
"Oh no you don't!" he exclaimed. The bird tugged and he tugged back, just a little harder each time, slowly drawing it to him. He shared a look with the xaraan. "Listen, you're coming with me whether you like it or not." As expected, the bird yelled in his face, but Sebastien held firm. The xaraan regarded him, scratched the ground once, and then decided to obey while Sebastian began to walk.
"That's a good boy."
