The Green lounged on one of the viewing ledges that would, in the near future, hold dragons to watch the hatching. The ledge she'd claimed for herself, was big enough to hold a Bronze, and so the much smaller Green was all but sprawled. She preferred the winter hatchings herself, it was hot outside, being inside a hot cavern was rather unpleasant. Her rider had rather firmly reminded her again, that it perhaps would not be wise to tell The Queen that watching the candidates interact with the 19 eggs in the muggy cavern, was not her idea of a day well spent. Worse yet, the man wouldn't even tell her why! The pale-bellied Green dragon sighed, front legs crossing, chin resting on the raised of them, watching the Sands below. The Copper was fussing over her eggs, she had never understood those who desired eggs for themselves. She was quite content to let the Queens fuss and create them. She could fly all year 'round! Besides, in some ways, this was as good as mother-hood. All the fun without the fuss.
C'eld was below her, sitting a seat or two below the Senior Copper-rider. By now, he and H'ris could probably could be considered on friendly terms easily. The Candidatemaster like the older man well enough, and he'd always been told that fostering a good work relationship was a good idea. The blond rider sat, one leg crossed over the other, hands animatedly waving as he told the dark haired rider a story that he'd heard a few days prior. There was a hint of amusement on the weyrman's face, and C'eld counted that as a success in a big way. A motion in the corner of his eye caught his attention, and he looked, and spotted those he had been waiting for. He waved them over, waiting for them to get closer. They wouldn't be in risk of treading too close to the Queen and her clutch, so safe enough for now. He turned to H'ris, nodding at him with a jaunty set of words, " Duty appears, it would seem." The other man snorted, and waved him off.
C'eld joined the candidates, taking stock of who was here and who wasn't. A few faces were unfamiliar to him, but with a Queen's clutch on the Sands, he expected it. He bit the inside of his cheek, fighting the urge to frown when he didn't immediately spot a candidate near and dear to his own self. Brentin. Ah well, not much time to dwell on that. He had a group of candidates to speak to it would seem. He waved his hands for silence, and waited. " Afternoon, folks. As you can tell, we're here for a good reason today," he gestured towards the Queen and her clutch almost flippantly before continuing, " I'm aware it's muggy in here, and getting hotter outside. Sorry, but nothing I can do about that." He shrugged, he could have done this in the morning, but he and H'ris had agreed that perhaps an afternoon greeting would mean a more relaxed Iesath. Even so, the blond Greenrider was sweating. He knew the candidates weren't in much better of a position.
" Now, the rules of a touching are simple. Don't do anything stupid. Don't run, push, shout, or give Iesath here a reason to notice you for too long," he grinned, a bit of sharpness to it now, " Our Iesath is normally sweet, but well, a mother and her children ought not to be trifled with." He raised his eyebrows, as it say, 'aren't I right?' C'eld swept his gaze over them. It ought not take too long, but who could to tell. " Alright, let's get to it. Pay respect to Iesath, and go touch some eggs." he might have given the last bit a touch of an eye-brow wiggle, a playful smirk on his face. He'd keep an eye on them, he liked most of them. However, he didn't trust them to like or respect each other.
"Rules" for Touching - Candidates may touch as many eggs as they want in the post, but mention which egg is intended for a response from by bolding its name at the top of the post (So we know who to respond to!). - Do not request another response immediately after receiving one. Wait for two other characters to post at minimum UNLESS your character and another are interacting. Then there must be at least the one post between. - Be patient with responses. The staff won't just post one response for one person unless the touching has gone stale. - Non-candidate characters may sit in the stands and watch, place bets on impressions, whatever, but they are not to go near the eggs.

Flan Egg
Maybe it was the excitement of it all but Devlin barely registered the sweltering heat of the cavern as anything more then a mild irritant, sure he was sweating and he could feel the heat of the sand rising up through the soles of his boots but...such things could hardly dampen the fact that he was about to touch, actually touch..dragon eggs.
Of course he'd heard all the candidate passed horror stories about angry mother dragons and while he knew that mothers of any sort were not to be prodded when it came to their children he was sure that most of them were just stories. Still...he didn't want to be the one to prove the stories true so he listened carefully to the Candidatemasters instructions before following everyone else towards the eggs.
He wasn't sure exactly what to expect but the clustered eggs of all different shades and sizes were a sight to behold and he might have paused for a moment if the clustering of candidates behind him hadn't kept him moving along. Once they were close enough the clustering seemed to spread out a bit as candidates paid their respect to the Queen and fanned out towards the eggs that drew their personal attention. Bowing politely to Copper Iesath in thanks for letting him come so close to her brood Devlin then turned his attention to the cloister of eggs in front of him. It seem to be a little less then half of the clutch separated here at the front and since it didn't seem to matter which egg he went to first Devlin decided the most logical thing to do would be to simply start at the front and work his way back.
With that in mind stepped forward and reached his hand out to touch the closest egg (Flan) , it's shell was a rather interesting mix of shades and held markings that looked almost like something was dripping down the sides. Although he didn't know what to expect the feeling of the shell under his hand was somewhat familiar...he'd handled eggs of other sorts before of course and although larger and stronger then those the feeling was quite similar.
"Hello little egg" He murmured quietly to the shell.

Mochi Egg
This was it, it was finally time to get close to the eggs, all of the waiting was almost over and soon she would find out if one of these eggs contained the dragon meant for her. She hoped they did...but then she was sure that all of the candidates felt much the same way, they wouldn't be here if they didn't right? Fidgeting slightly Kaleir waited with barely constrained eagerness for the Candidatemaster to finish his instructions...shells but it was hot in here, she could feel the sweat all but dripping down her back and found herself hoping that come hatching day it would be a little bit cooler..maybe they would get lucky and the eggs would choose to hatch in the cooler morning hours..or even in the evening. Although in the end Kaleir knew that she would endure any discomfort for the chance at impressing.
When they were finally released to approach the egg Kaleir made sure to mind her manners - sure she wanted to run headlong towards the eggs...but she wasn't going to. That would be a quick way to get herself booted out. She paid her respects to the Copper Queen along with the others before approaching the eggs, dodging those who stopped to contemplate which egg to touch first, she had already spotted an egg that she was drawn too...partly because it was clustered in the closest group and partly because of its pale and pretty silvery coloring. It wasn't the largest egg in the batch..but that didn't matter so much to Kaleir and reaching the pretty egg she laid her hand along its warm shell, lightly tracing the even paler spots that dotted it's hide.

Chocolate Pot De Creme
Jovakor stood to the back of the group of Candidates as they gathered around to listen to the little pep talk C'eld gave them. Right, no sudden movements or anything that might make the soon-to-be mother upset, pay respects to her, and be quiet and respectful. That wasn't really a tall order for the young man who always went out of his way to show respect to those around him. He knew a Touching could be a time of high anxiety and delight for many, but he wasn't new to this scene. He had gone through a few before and had not been chosen, so he didn't have his hopes up like he had the first time he had gone onto the sands.
After bowing to the large copper dragon, Jovakor turned his attention to the eggs. They were all rather fantastic colors this time around and he waited until one drew him in to move. He approached a brown egg with spots and white splatters on it and crouched down beside it. He rested a hand against the shell and smiled at the warmth under his hand.
"Hello," he said quietly, patting the shell. "You're certainly a pretty one, aren't you? Ah...or handsome," he corrected, unsure of the gender of the dragon inside.

The Dragonet inside seems to curl and lightly brush across Devilin's mind. It is nether happy or sad to see the candidate and only acknowledges the candidate before softly retreating from his mind. The mind inside the egg barely brushes against Kaleir's mind as if it is sluggish and sleepy.SilverLutz Chocolate Pot De Creme Egg ... Jovakor gets no response from this egg.

Creme Brulee
Practically vibrating with excitement, Asheryn had to force herself not to run onto the sands. Not only was it inappropriate, but she was pretty sure Iesath would not have been happy with anyone running around her eggs. C'eld's words of encouragement and warning cemented that thought and the young Candidate took deep breaths to calm herself. She cast glances around the sands, looking for her brother. Her darling firelizard Finn was bound to be with Netai since he couldn't be with Ash. She'd tried to get him to stay in her quarters, but he was having none of that he assured her. She caught the movement of wings and there he was, perching on Netai's shoulder. Seeing her brother, she relaxed and calmed a little further. Netai had Impressed his very own wher, and it gave her hope that one day she'd Impress a dragon.
The Candidates in front of her moved and a new shiver of anticipation slid down her spine as she made her way to the Queen and paid her respects. Then her attention was all for the eggs. They were all so beautiful, and colorful! Her eyes were drawn to the bubbly blue egg since that was her favorite color, but her feet drew her to the nearby warmer colored egg with red splotches. Eyes wide, she slid her hands over the shell and cooed to it softly. "Oh, hello, beauty..." she murmured.

Macaroon Egg
Devlin wasn't sure what he had been expecting - sure he had been told that the little dragon's in the egg could respond when you touched them but a small part of his mind had been expecting ..well he wasn't sure really, maybe a wiggle..or something, but the brief soft touch on his mind from the dragon within the egg he'd just touched was wonderful, why he could almost bet that the dragon within was quite good natured if his brief response had been anything to go by. "Who ever you impress with will be quite lucky I think." He told the egg before bidding it farewell and moving on to the next one.
The next egg in his path was a nicely colored green one. It was smaller then the last egg he had touched but no less vibrant and now that he knew something of what to expect when he touched an egg Devlin was eager to lay his hands on another. Reaching out he put his hand gently on top of the green egg. "You've got a lovely colored shell." He told the little dragon inside.

Tayaki Egg
Poor dear." Kaleir crooned to the egg as it's sleepy response was registered. "You better rest now, there will be so much to do once you hatch!" She told it in farewell before moving to the egg sitting beside it, it was a strangely marked egg, somewhat reminding her of the scales of a fish but its unique markings were intriguing to her and after the response she had gotten from the previous egg she was quite excited to see what the rest of the clutch would be like.
Reaching out she placed her hand on the shell "Your not as sleepy as your neighbor are you?" She asked the little dragon inside. Shells but she couldn't wait until she could really converse with a dragon, hold a real conversation..share thoughts and dreams and goals. Someday...she thought to herself..someday.

Pavlova
This was not Jarah's home Weyr, but news of a Copper Queen clutching had spread and here he was. He was a little nervous, but excited too, and for once he wasn't seeking attention. Getting too much attention here on the sands could result in getting booted from the Touching and there was no way he was going to risk that. His shoulders felt oddly light without one or both of his firelizards perched there, but he'd left Sweet and Sour outside, laying in the sun. They were content to lay there while Jarah sated his curiousity about the eggs.
There were so many, he thought, and so many Candidates. His turn came to pay respects to the Copper Queen allowing them to Touch her eggs and he did so before making his way through the eggs. He felt himself pulled toward the more colorful ones, his fingers sliding over the white and burgundy of a medium sized egg. "I bet you're just as colorful as your shell, aren't you little one?" he murmured. "Can't wait to see what you and your siblings look like."

Turkish Delight
Jovakor was surprised that there was not a single flicker of a reaction that came from within the egg. He withdrew his hand slowly, not wanting to cause any alarm. It could simply be that the dragon inside was waiting for a perfect candidate and he obviously wasn't it, or that perhaps the egg housed a baby that hadn't made it. Either way, he knew it was time to move on.
His attention was drawn to a brightly colored egg that was covered in spots. It sat off to the side with one other egg and he wondered if they were plotting something together. Smiling a bit, he crouched beside the spotted one and pressed his hand against the shell.
"Anyone home?" he asked softly, hoping to get some sort of reply this time. Not feeling even a rejecting sensation had been a bit eerie.

Well hello to you too and thank you! This one seems quite nice, he is happy that someone came to see him! I'll let you in on a secret though... Yours is not far. And with that thought the dragonet's mind returns quiet. The dragonet within jumps at Kaleir's touch, he is not at all sleepy! No ma'am! However, the excited dragonet settled down. It's sibling... Well, that sibling is... The dragonet suddenly closes all contact with Kaleir but leaves worried thoughts.No. That is the only thought Devil receives before the dragonet cuts all thoughts off.Even before Jarah touched this shell, a feeling of steady contentment radiated from Pavlova. It greeted the candidate with a mental grin and the feeling of skipping through a field of daisies. Nothing could hamper this optimistic egg, and it shouldn't hamper you either! You seem quite nice! If the dragonet could it would push through it's shell to get some pets from this one. If only we were meant! Close, close, but not yet. This egg seems to go off on a rant.

In the stands, Netai watched his sister as she moved between the eggs. He remembered the way his heart pounded when the Queen had allowed him to choose an egg, and the elation when Netask broke through his shell and tumbled into his lap.
At his Bonded's thought, the Brown opened an eyelid though his sun-warmed perch outside was too far away to see Netai in the stands. Will we eat when you've finished playing spectator, my own?
Netai chuckled softly and replied, We ate before we came, you can't be hungry again already. Netask rumbled and rolled over to his other side. I like to eat, he murmured before going back to sleep. On the healer's shoulder, the much smaller Brown flit of his sister's fluttered his wings impatiently. His Asheryn was down there on the sands, touching other eggs! He huffed and curled his tail around Netai's neck, careful not to choke him.
Before too long, Netai's friend and fellow Healer Cheora flopped into the seat next to him. "Pretty exciting, isn't it?" she asked him. She always loved coming to see the Candidates and the eggs. It had never been her dream to Impress a dragon. No, she was quite content to heal them. This way she met so many! And they were all so beautiful to her. Dragonets in particular were adorably awkward. "Your sister's down there, right?" She reached up to stroke Finn's neck in an attempt to calm the large flit's agitation. Finn was happy for the attention and leaned into Cheora's petting.
Netai nodded in response and smiled. "Very exciting. Asheryn's been talking about it non stop since the Queen's flight," he laughed softly. Well, when they were able to get together anyway. Which was mostly at meals when Netai could pull himself away from the healing bay. Today had been a special exception to his workaholic personality. He had to be here for his sister.
Cheora grinned as she watched the Candidates with the eggs. Her favorite part of the whole thing was watching the changing expressions of the Candidates as they moved across the sands. The surprise and occasional disappointment, and the excitement. That moment when they felt the dragonets in their minds, and the curiousity as they puzzled out which egg they should visit next.

Chocolate Pot de Creme
The emphatic and resounding no from the green shelled egg was surprising and Devlin snatched his hand away quickly. That was strange but it was obvious that the dragon inside was certainly not meant for him - unless it had somewhat taken offense to his comments, who could really tell with unhatched dragons right?
Soothing himself with memories of the first eggs more hospitable greeting Devlin reached for the next egg in the little cluster he was standing by, laying his hands gently on the white top of the third egg. Although it was comprised of more earthy tones Devlin rather admired the patterns on it. It was interesting that the eggs were all so different from one another both in size and patterns. "Afternoon little dragon." He said in greeting as he did so.

Creme Brulee
Kaleir's brow furrowed slightly as the hatchling inside left her with worried thoughts for its neighbor, Perhaps there was something wrong with it? Should she tell someone..was there anything anyone could even do if there was something wrong? Its not like you could give any sort of medicine through a shell and some things couldn't be fixed at all. Surely when the eggs hatched the weyr would help it if there was something wrong. Still she gave both the worried neighbor and the sleepy shell a compassionate rub before moving on.
The next egg in the little group she was standing beside was a large one with a splotchy pattern. "My but your shell is quite the unique one now isn't it!" She remarked to the hatchling within.

The response Jovakor got from this egg made his spirits lift quite a bit. Whoever would get this dragon would certainly have a fun partner for the rest of their lives. It seemed to enjoy his touch but began to ramble after just a few moments, so he chuckled quietly and moved on to the egg it was resting with.
This brown egg had lighter brown swirls all over it and, to Jovakor, it looked like the most delicious dessert. Sweets were a weakness of his even if he couldn't have many before feeling ill and this one looked like the sweetest chocolate anyone could ask for. He had to smile a bit once more as he noticed it was the only egg to be completely on its side. Perhaps the dragon within this egg was a lively one and had knocked itself over.
Pressing his hand to the shell, he closed his eyes for a moment to compose himself. It was with a neutral mind that one was supposed to approach an egg.
"Hello there," he said softly. "Rocked yourself right onto your side, hm?"
