FIGHT IN THE MARKETPLACE! World Event The people of Tendaji seem to be settling in - and some in places far from their homeland. The tensions are high, and with the whispers of the Alkidike planning an offensive… well, some have been on edge and ready for a fight. Were the outsiders going to help their people when the time came to fight the extremist Alkidike? Most of the natives to the area had their doubts.
An argument had broken out in the market, verbal at first, but it wasn’t long before it became a physical confrontation. This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the instigator, or on the defense.
This battle prompt will be resolved by rolling 1D100. • Prentice must roll 70-100 for success. • Stage 2 must roll 60-100 for success. • Stage 3 must roll 50-100 for success. • Stage 4 must roll 40-100 for success.
|| Success will result in 50exp in addition to the versatile point || Failure will only allow for the versatile point credit.

The market was strangely busy, but subdued. People traveled in small groups of two or more and most had a nervous look to them. They spoke quietly and even the younglings didn't seem up to causing mischief, having caught on to the distress of their elders. It reminded Virain about the tension between his parents and himself that had risen considerably over the span of a few weeks. It was amazing how one heartfelt comment could be taken so very wrong. But he wasn't going to take any of it back because he abhorred lying. There was no point to it and all you ended up doing was having to keep track of what you said and to whom you said it to.
So it was with a heavy heart that Virain found himself in the center of turbulent emotions with no idea of how he got himself there.
"No you gotta listen to me!" A wild eyed shifter cried, arms wrapped around a shaking youngling. "They've gone insane! The Alkidikes are attacking anyone who so much looks in their direction now. They've...they've already killed some of my family over nothing."
"It's true. You know how they are against hybrids of their blood." Another voice piped up, "It seems that it doesn't matter if you are or not anymore. If you're near their territory they want you gone."

Phaedra had just left her first personal encounter with an Oban. Sure she'd seen them from afar but she'd never actually interacted with one. Normally she avoided them. Her mind was so confused with what had happened. It amazed her and scared her at the same time. However, something else came into her thoughts at that time. A shifter was calling out about the Alkidikes and how they had lost their minds. They were apparently even attacking full earthlings now simply for being near their lands. It made her worry about her father. She'd left him Sol so that she could come to the Neued market for desert spices. The brunette chewed on her lip a bit worried. "Crazy amazons." She agreed with the others.

Virain chewed on his lip, listening to the abuses that spilled out against the Alkidikes. Sure, he'd only met one pureblood before, but she'd been so very kind to him. Just thinking about V'demhe made his chest feel warm and his stomach tighten in a way that was entirely unfamiliar to him. He wanted to meet her again, to talk to her, laugh with her, to show his mother that she wasn't a bad person just because of which tribe she'd been born to.
The agreement spoken close to him snapped him out of his longing thoughts and his gazes shifted to the speaker. It was a girl, older than he was but he couldn't tell by how much. She was a member of the Leaf tribe if her crystal colors were anything to go by. Like the rest she looked a bit worried and also like the rest, she'd probably only heard rumors to back up the stories, the claims.
"They aren't all bad!" He protested, standing up straight, eyes bright with conviction. "I've met some and she was the most gentle person I've come across!"

To hear someone nearby claim that they had met a kind Alkidike made the leafling blink a few times. Phaedra wasn't sure how to respond to that. Then again she kinda did. Giving the boy a sympathetic look she shook her head at him. "One out of the whole tribe doesn't mean much." Her shoulders came up in a shrug before she continued. "Do you still talk to her? Do you still know if she is kind?" Since the boy wasn't here in the market with said Alkidike she guessed not. Plus, as far as Phae knew the amazons didn't come this far south often. "Maybe she was a hybrid." It would better explain the gentleness.

Virain scowl was sharp enough to cut cloth as he stared down the leaf earthling. "I haven't seen her since she was chased away, because of what tribe she was born to! If she isn't kind anymore it's because of people like this lot, that pass judgement on everyone else just because of what they look like." He could feel his hackles raising and had to take a moment to calm himself. It did no good to raise your voice at someone else and once you'd done so, the argument always went in their favor.
"She's a Pureblood! My other friend is a hybrid and she was just as kind to me as my pureblooded friend."
"Yeah, but you talk as if we're the villains for judging your 'Friend' when it's her tribe that's starting all of the troubles!" An angry voice called out, "What have any of us done to them that's 'forced' them to start attacking peaceful people?!" Voices rang out in agreement, each one just a bit louder, more forceful than the one previous.

His outburst didn't surprise her. Phaedra knew something like it was coming, she was just thankful this boy hadn't thought to become hostile. Yelling she could deal with. "Its not just because she looks like an Alkidike that she's judged. Her tribe as a whole is attacking people for no reason. Can you say for certain that she isn't part of it?" The leafling felt for this boy. He seemed so determined that his friend was good. "I'm sorry, but I have to agree with the others." Once more her shoulders came up. Phae turned her head and slowly started to walk toward a stall that had caught her attention but not before she called over her shoulder. "Best to forget the crazy amazon and work on protecting yourself and those you love from her." She meant to use her as a general for the whole tribe but it could easily be taken as an insult to the water boy's friend.

Virain hissed, rearing back as if he'd been slapped. Her words made his vision go red and it was only the faint pain of his nails breaking skin that brought him back down. "Those I love?" He snarled, voice low, "Those I love would happily see her lynched. I love her! What about that huh? Her tribe does not define her! If that were true then I would still be beholden to those who enslaved mine, I would be nothing to them! Less than nothing!"
He could feel himself shaking, feel the tears of anger that pooled in his eyes and made them sting. Why couldn't they understand?!? V'demhe wasn't like the rest of her tribe! She was like Teiluj and Isaris, kind and helpful and kicked around for being true to who they were and not what they were.
"Kid, she's using you." A man said, bold enough to put a heavy hand on Virain's shoulder. He was a scarred hybrid, shifter and something else, something that Virain couldn't tell at a glance. He glared up at him, "Don't give me that look, I'm trying to help. See here, this Amazon waltzes in, make you like her, and then gets you to do all these things for her. Just so she can stab you in the back once you aint useful anymore."
"She's not like that at all." Virain cried, brushing the mans hand off his shoulder. "I'm not saying that all of the Alkidikes are good! Just like not all Shifters or Matorians are good! But this one, she's good, she's different!"

The way the boy reacted made Phaedra pity him. What the old man said could be true. What if the Alkidike had come to manipulate him? The brunette frowned slightly and moved back toward Virain. "I'm sorry that she made you feel that way. Truly I am, but surely you must see that she can only be using you." She nodded her head as she put her hand on his shoulder now. "Alkidikes do not like earthlings." This boy would be just like her mother. Seduced by the enemy. "You should go home and find a lovely Matori girl. It'll be for the best." Phae nodded her head. Granted this wasn't the Oban war but it was soon to become the Alki's war if they had their way. "What you feel for the Amazon that tricked you isn't love. I promise." She looked back at the others that agreed with her. Phaedra couldn't help her prejudice. "I say we strike at the Alkidikes before they take over the minds of our younger generations. Soon they could become enslaved just as the Matorian's had once been to the Oban." There. She'd said it.

She didn't. Virain couldn't help but gape at the girl for her sheer audacity. Had she heard nothing that he'd just said? And she had the gall to bring up the enslavement of his people as an, an example of all things. "No." He said, voice calm, cold. The anger that burned in him had cooled, refined itself into something different.
"What you are proposing is a bloodbath. You remember the one that happened not too long ago, that involved the liberation of my people." He couldn't understand the voice that spoke, didn't connect the detached tone as one that came from him. "That is what you are asking for. What you are insinuating is that 'your' younger generation, my generation are so besotted with ourselves, our naievity, that we cannot distinguish the right crowd from the wrong. One good person over one bad. To me, you are my enemy. Why? You want to change my way of thought, force me to hurt the one that I love." He spat at her, "You're no better than the Obans who killed my people, used them for their own pleasure, their own gains, who forced us to accept things as fact when the views themselves are wrong."
He slapped her hand off her shoulder. "You're no better then the monsterous 'Amazons' that you're trying to 'defend' yourselves against."

She pulled her hand back when he smacked it. "No, what I propose is to stand up for ourselves and let the Alkidikes know we won't be pushed over." Phaedra shook her head. "If you want to be besotted with the crazy Amazon, then it is your choice." She nodded her head. However, the brunette wasn't going to accept that the Alkidikes wanted to harm others. "When she uses you and turns you against your people then abandons you, I doubt you will have a friend left to help you." Where was this coming from? Phae never spoke such harsh words. Perhaps it was just the thought of this boy being like her mother and going with the enemy on a whim? That had to be it. With a scoff she turned from the boy and went over to speak to the others. "Annex the behemoth tribe from our villages! Send them back to their precious islands! We can do that! No blood need be shed but they will see that we are not push overs!" She had instigated the crowd and there was a collective agreement that went out.

"And what about us, the ones who get caught in the crossfire?!" An angry voice cried out. The speaker was an older Alkidike, one who had been in the town and surrounding area for years upon years and were well known for being peaceful. Her half-grown daughter stood beside her, the pale crystals that decorated her shoulders and darker coloration marking her as a hybrid. They looked angry and scared. They'd been accosted by the Alkidikes as well, but to be driven out of their home was unthinkable. "Would you drive us away as well? We've lived here, peacefully for longer than most of you. We helped birth most of this younger generation that you're so worried for. What of my daughter? She takes mostly after me, yet you would throw her to the mercy of people you know would kill her." The Alkidike put her hands on her hips, scowling at the crowd, unafraid.
Virain turned to the girl, "You're a fool. All you're doing is gathering a mob to enact out violence. These people here, once the lust sets in, won't be able to stop their hate and fear. They'll start killing, and in turn act exactly like the ones the wanted to protect themselves from." He gestured towards the Alkidike pair, "They would be the first to fall, because they're within reach, convenient scapealdabucks for any little problem that'll go wrong within the next few weeks. Could you live with yourself knowing this? That you started this?"

Phaedra looked over at the elderly Alkidike and the hybrid daughter that stood with her. "I would assume you don't hate earthlings since you bred with one to have your daughter. Hybrids aren't out to hurt us. I have no problem with hybrids." It was only the purebloods that she seemed to have a dislike for. And Obans. But they were not involved in this, yet. Returning her gaze to Virain she offered him a smile. "If they know danger is coming then they shouldn't stay. However, yes, I would be okay with it. I said no blood need be spilled and I am not the creator of the idea, just a supporter. So it would not be my hands that would be dirtied." Phae lifted her hands to show they would be clean. "What of your Alkidike? What if she is out there hurting or killing others. What if she comes to kill your tribe? Would you defend her still?"

He could sense that there was no reasoning with this girl-child and that it was a losing battle to keep speaking with her. But her words rankled him, pricking his skin with such force that it felt like swallowing rocks as he tried to choke back his words. "Elitist thinking that, just like the Obans." He said finally, unable to stay silent. "It's not the hand that gets bloodied but the knife that cuts the throat. The hired blade, the poison." He shook his head, "You'd fit right in with my former masters and my people."
He knew that V'demhe wouldn't just go out and kill others for the sake of killing them. He wasn't naive enough to think that she hadn't killed. That he wouldn't eventually end up taking someone else's life. His parents were prime examples of this. He knew now that the reason why his Masters were always so sick, was because they were poisoning them. Slowly, slowly, timing it with illnesses and other maladies to mask it. But he'd caught on to it finally and he just...couldn't. He couldn't forgive them. They were supposed to be healers but here they were, doing something so...so underhanded.
He wouldn't mourn them as they were now, should they die.
A shrill cry of pain brought his attention back to crowd. Words too fast for him to make out were being shrieked as a pale skinned person clawed at the older Alkidike, who did very little to defend herself. The daughter had blood running down her arms as she tried to pry the earthling off her mother, but it didn't stop the smaller person.
"Are you so sure that your words won't have the same effect as if you yourself held the blade?" He asked, voice dripping with disdain as he turned to attempt to lend his aid to the Alkidike.
