Isolder wrapped his hands for the punching fest to follow, it wouldn't do to have bloody knuckles as the pain would just hurt him later. He was surprised at the fire starting up in his blood, apparently talking to people again had been good for him. He had since run out of money and had entered a low key fight right to earn some more, he had had to learn how to fight without others and was slowly trucking his way up to adept. He bounced from foot to foot loosening tight muscles.

Soon he was face to face with another shifter ... a large shifter. It would be a miracle if he won this, impossible not to get hurt but the payoff should be worth it, enough money for food and lodging for a while longer and he was darn hungry for good food.

The match started out hot with both opponents moving easily, gliding across the dirt with a furry of light blows testing reflex, skill and technique. Sadly Isolder's patented outmuscling technique would not work on the huge broad back before him. It was a good thing he was fast or he would be radaku chow right off the bat. By the end both were bruised battered and covered in sweat.

Isolder lost but gained some respect for his bold moves and the giant gave him a tip for at least trying to make it a challenge. He sat gasping outside the ring after siphoning down fluids in a most determined manner.

Virain knew his parents would kill him if they ever found out that he'd wandered into the more... seedy area of town. People eyed him with interest, both at his more exotic looks and because of his age. He was short for a Matorian, both of his parents were small compared to the rest of their race, and he looked a lot younger because of it. Not that he was old by any count. He bit his lip as he slipped through the crowd, wondering just what was going on and why people seemed to be so hyped.

What he saw surprised him.

Two people, willingly fighting for the sake of fighting? No, the longer he watched the more he realized that there was money involved. Unconsciously he found himself rooting for the smaller shifter and couldn't help the 'awww' that escaped him when he lost. Though his disappointment was lost in the roar of the crowd. He watched as money exchanged hands and a small break seemed to be taking place as the next fighters got themselves ready.

He skirted around the people still gathered until he reached the smaller shifters side. "Good fight." He said, voice only breaking a little for which he was proud of. "How did you know to duck instead of dodge there?" He asked, squatting down so that he wasn't standing over the sitting man. The fact that he was guzzling water like it would be taken away wasn't lost to him, and the amount of sweat that glistened on his body told him that he probably felt as if he were a wrung out rag.

Isolder peeked up around the water bottle to see an inquisitive young face and almost spilled water on himself as he smiled. "Luck for one and intuition gained through experience for another. I'm still learning and the road has been a bit bumpy." He poked at a swelling eye in indication. "I don't recommend it as a career choice, I prefer real fighting if I have to choose but I quite ran out of funds and didn't have much choice and this beats doing dishes if not by much."
He chuckled, feeling his spirit lighten a bit just at the presence of someone who was younger and spirited like his younger brothers had been..were he hoped.

"Can I do something for you?" He dabbed at his forhead attempting to make himself more presentable. This lad looked a bit far from home. He wondered if the boy had walked all the way from matori or if he had been born here but he was reluctant to pry.

"My name is Isolder, Jauhar born and bred." He held out a hand still wrapped from the fight.

"My parents don't want me to learn how to fight. They'd rather I stay at home and learn how to heal." He said with a frown, "They'd rather I never leave the comfort of a lifestyle I'd rather not live." He sighed and pushed his bangs away from his face, "Sorry, you probably didn't need to hear that." He offered Isolder a lopsided smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Not really. I was exploring a bit and came across the fight. It's...well... Fighting is something I don't think I'll ever be allowed to do. Not that I think I have the aptitude for it, but still. Learning how to defend myself is something I should know, right?" He shook his head, "There I go again, spilling my woes to you." He dug through a small bag at his side and pulled out a strip of jerky, which he then offered to Isolder, "Here, sorry for talking your ear off. I'm Virain, Oban by birth though I was born free." He tilted his head to one side. "Oban? Hm, no I am Matorian though I was born in Oba. Am I Oban though I'm not of the Fire Tribe?" He seemed content to try and puzzle it out in his head, occasionally muttering something to himself.

"Not to put down your parents or anything, parents are important after all but what they want for you sounds awfully boring, if you are out here its a safety matter to be able to fight, the moment you leave your home's land. If there's one thing I've learned its love your family..if they deserve it and love yourself enough to do what you want to. Some day your parents won't be dictating what you do. Then it will be your choices that matter."

Isolders hunger lept at the sight of the meat and he accepted the offering graciously. "Thank you this looks deliscious." he said with relish. Chewing the tough strip of meat gave him time to sift through the boys ancestry. That makes you Oban just not fire just as you said. I've never been to either place so it makes me no nevermind anyway."

"Are your parents around Virain?" he looked young..not too young to not be out on his own though.

Virain sighed, "I can understand where they're coming from. All they've ever known is the life that they live now. Mamae is trying her best to see to it that I've got things she's never had as a youngling. But still," He said softly, the corners of his lips pulling down, "They've opened the door for me, let me see outside, but they aren't letting me out to explore it."

His fingers curled over the shell necklace he wore, a reminder to his mother of a brother she lost. He'd never met his uncle nor did he hear many stories about him, but from what little he knew, he'd been a very brave man. Perhaps it was time for Virain to take a page out of his book, and to stand up for what he really wanted. But...he didn't know how to get there. If Isolder was right, then no matter what he decided in the end, his parents should love and support him. If they..if they didn't then they weren't very good parents. Because Isolder was right, there would come a point in time where he'd leave home, branch out and follow his own path.

"Oban huh? I don't mind being Oban born. I've never been to Matori anyway. Have you Mr. Isolder?"

"They just don't want to see you get hurt, that's what parents are for, but at some point your just not a nestling anymore, and I know when I have kids the same problem will arise. I know what its like to be young and being all cooped up does nothing but increase the likelihood of you trying to escape yourself."

"Mr?," he chocked on his sip of water. "No I haven't been to Matori, although it sounds like its really nice, I take it you might want to go there someday hmm? I haven't ever been out of Jauhar and I don't know how I feel about that."

Maybe his brothers were here, maybe they were not, but he didn't know in which direction they had gone so it was a moot point, tendaji was big and he felt like maybe they would find him here if he stayed. But sooner or later he would have to change and work on his own life too. Maybe find a somebody he could start a family with.

"If my parents had their way, I'd never get to see our homeland. I'd be stuck doing whatever it is that they'd have me doing. I'd marry whichever girl would give us a status boost, after becoming someone marriage worthy. I understand that being a healer in Oba is something sought after, good ones especially but," He frowned, looking away. "I don't want to be that sort of person. A puppet for my parents to live their lives through. I understand that they've given up a lot for me, especially since they had nothing to begin with, and what little they earned they used on me. It's hard not to...to be grateful for it all."

He sighed, "I want to go there, to learn more about what it means to be Matorian, a free Matorian. I want to find the person who makes my heart flutter and stay with them for the rest of my life. I want...I want my parents to approve of them, my choices, and not grudgingly." He looked at Isolder, "Is that...too much to ask for?"

He flushed and rubbed at the back of his neck. "I'm sorry, I just can't seem to keep my feelings to myself today."

"That doesn't seem fair to me, they should let you live the way you want to, not what suits them best as long as you are safe and healthy what does it matter who you marry as long as you are happy with it?" He nodded. "I think you should go, or they will never respect you for the adult, its too easy to protect what they see as theirs but you are yours too. Just be careful. Who knows what wonderful things you might learn down there. I've been looking for my family for so long, but when I find them they don't get to say who I date."

He stood, quite cooled off now. "Oh good I can still do this, never know how many good smacks you can take before your laid up in bed for a week." He grinned and stretched, he had been still too long.

"I-I think I will! I'll let them know I'm going- no, I can't tell them or they'll try to make me stay." He said, frowning, "It's a matter of respect though at that point right? If they respect me they'll let me go, if they don't, they'll try to make me stay."

He watched as Isolder stood and stretched. His lithe body seemed to grow a few inches longer with the movement. Virain stood as well and brushed dirt from his pants. "I'd rather not get to that point, where I'm so hurt I can't do much more than lay around and heal." He grimaced at the thought, his heart too soft to even imagine what sort of trouble he'd have gotten into for that to be a possibility.

"Wait, you said you're looking for your family? What happened?"

"It is best to let them know, so they can find you in the occurrance of an emergency." He nodded, the lad would find the best way to bring it to his parents, that Isolder could not help him with.

"Well there was a great battle, my youngest two brothers fled, my father was killed and the elder brothers all separated into different directions, it was that hectic. That was five long years ago, too darn long. I haven't seen anyone since, despite combing through Jauhar thouroughly since then." His wrist hurt and he looked at it accusingly before rolling it gently to dispell the physical compliant.

"When do you think you will go to matori?" If he hadn't brothers to find he would have gone with the boy.

Virain sighed, "It sounds more like I want to run away from home more than anything when you say that. But yes, a general 'I'll be over here until you come to your senses' does sound good. It's not like my parents have the funding to hire bounty hunters to bring me back home." He rubbed the back of his neck and stood, fingers curling around the small shells of his necklace.

"I hope you find your brothers soon, five years is too long to not have heard anything." He said, looking a bit pensive as he thought about how his parents would feel if they'd lost him in a similar manner. At least he knew where to look first if they'd been separated. But for Isolder, his family had scattered to the four winds from the sound of it.

"I don't know. There's things I feel like I have to do first and who knows how long that'll take. My parents are one thing and learning how to protect myself is another." He seemed to visibly perk up as he spoke, "And who knows what else will pop up in the mean time. My familiar is growing rapidly too and he'll need to be trained as well. I don't think I'll be able to train him myself since I don't know the first thing about it. But he's really smart so I don't think it'll take him too long to learn how to fly with riding gear."

"As for how to protect yourself I can help with that, unless you fight the guy I just fought. Then you should run instead of fight, there are times when unless your like a tiny stage three you should just run away. I'm not to proud to admit it and this was a fair no kill fight so thats my excuse for sitting in a heap on the side of the ring for so long.' He grinned. "What kind of familiar do you have?" Whatever it was it must be big to have flying gear on it.

He should get a familar.. he just didn't know what he wanted yet.

"You'd help? I mean, showing me a few basic defensive moves would be nice. Something I can do to surprise someone and give me some time to run away and all.." Virain said before trailing off. "Running sounds like it would be a better idea. I'd rather only fight if I have no other option." He scratched at his cheek and offered Isolder a weak grin, "I'm not exactly built for taking many hits now am I?"

It was true in his eyes. Virain was small for his age, both short in stature and very slender. His legs gave him the illusion of having height, with how long they were compared to his torso. All in all he still looked very much like a child, and perhaps that was one of the reasons why his parents babied him so much still. He was a respectable age of 15 seasons thank you kindly!

"Oh-ah, I have a Kinfa. His name is Tweet. Unoriginal I know, but I got him when I was really little. He's been growing rapidly lately and Mamae said that he should be big enough to for me to try riding on. I'm not so sure. He hasn't even had riding gear on him once yet."

Isolder eyed him, "Not exactly no, but you will be able to outrun many who are built for heavy hits I think. As long as you can dodge well enough and are able to read them, you should be okay for the most part, unless you go up against one of the few who are flexible that way, stay away from archers or spearman."

He reminded Iso of what his little brother would probably be like, Issaly hadn't seemed to have a mean bone in his body and he had been so tiny when Isolder first held him. He stifled a nostalgic sigh.

"Do it slow, but if you plan to ever ride him start soon or he might not care for being dressed up, I wouldn't relish riding one without straps." Flying ugh. He liked the ground..alot. "I wouldn't mind a familiar myself, although I think if I myself were to choose I would go with a scorra. Kinfa can be amazing though, very speicial birds from what I hear, you're very lucky."
