India Outpost #21
Unnamed Forest in Madhya Pradesh, India

In the temperate forests of Madya Pradesh lies a small, unobtrusive base, mostly obscured by brush and other foliage. It's outfitted for six people, and even then it's a bit of a tight fit. There is a single, unmarked shack above ground that marks its entrance, concealed by hidden floor panels. It is primarily underground, a small emergency bunker from bygone years that's been expanded on to add living quarters.

The aforementioned quarters are divided into two rooms: the larger, nicer room that beds four with separation barriers put up, and the smaller room that's in an unrenovated and windowless room that once doubled as a supply closet. The crew rotates out who has to stay in the smaller room; guest hunters get stuck there.

There is one rec room, small with a worn out pool table, a bookshelf with current hits (thanks to George and Melody), and a small television with an old, well-loved N64. The kitchen is also small-- a running trend-- and closer to the surface for ventilation purposes, closer to a traditional Indian kitchen than a modern one. Due to the quiet surroundings, a decent amount of cooking is also done outdoors, as Roderick and Jill are capable chefs over a firepit.

There is a single bathroom, set up to be 100% shower space when the door is closed, with two heads. Water comes from a well, and is a resource not to be wasted. The base itself runs on a combination of runic and solar power.

The main goal of the base is to transcribe and interpret the signals of a mysterious number station that doesn't align with any espionage agency, major or minor.

There are no known horsemen lairs in the vicinity, but the walls between Halloween and this forest are awfully thin, and sometimes stragglers come through, not generally picking a fight, many not even bothering the humans not too far below the surface of the earth.

The staff is as follows:

1. Jill Gonzales - Life
A tall, amazonian girl with a shock of violet hair styled into a pixie cut, her bare and muscled arms tattooed with varying constellations. Has a cute gap in her teeth. Perpetually competing with George over interpretations of the Number Station. Although it's not her duty, she enjoys cooking enough that she does biweekly dinners cooked outdoors. Works the third shift, 10PM to 7AM.

2. George Crawford - Death
A short, stout Nigerian with long black dreads. Drinks yerba mate like water 24/7, and is an avid reader of YA fantasy. He always seems to have a book open, even while working. His concentration is unbreakable. Hogs the bathroom every dayfor 45 minutes on the dot, between 5 and 5:45 AM. Works the first shift, 6AM to 3PM.

3. Nathan Gibson - Sun
A reedy, blonde, and a little on the jittery side. Does a lot of prep for the cooking, rather than the cooking itself. Works the second shift, 2PM to 10PM.

4. Melody Chambers - Moon
A talkative, sleepy sort of girl, who always looks like she fell out of bed and onto a cloud. Carries a "nap aura", according to everyone else. It doesn't help that she seems to yawn every other sentence. Makes magic out of rations, but that's partially because she has a stock of kitchen staples and spices that she rigorously maintains. Works the first shift, 6AM to 3PM.

5. Roderick Ghosh - Mist (Acting Sun) - On Leave
6. Sherry Park - Moon - On Leave

Day 0

Leslie packed his bag light. The base assignment wasn't too long, estimated to be about a week at the longest. Two of the full hunters were taking a leave together, leaving a few shifts unaccounted for. Even some months after the fact, these kind of missions still made him nervous as hell.

He'd gone over his paperwork, but at the time, the Sun spot was as of yet unfilled. Whatever. He could work with about anyone, if push came to shove. Bag slung over his back, notice texted to Abbi, and dread carefully tucked away, Leslie head towards the lighthouse portal.

Day 0

He stood by the lighthouse portal, waiting. Isaac had spent the better part of the previous day going over the paperwork. He knew who was going with him, and he wanted to see Leslie's face when the mist realized that Isaac was going to be the last-minute sun.

He really wasn't sure what he hoped to see on Leslie's face, quite frankly; it was probably going to be typical lemonface, and Isaac was fine with that. The hope that there would be something more (fear-respect-hate-anger-excitement) was what drove him to stand outside of the portal, small pack in his hand.

And he was all smiles.

Day 0

Leslie froze, if only for a moment. A patchwork medley of words overlaid with feelings, sensations, the drag of nails against skin, fingers clamped down tight on the fluttering pulse of his own neck.

And then it melted away, because this was work, god damn it, and he was capable of being professional when it mattered.

It didn't mean he had to like it, though.

Lemonface in full swing, he walked up to the other man, lip curled (as it always was, it seemed). "Just ******** great. You at least read the dossier?" You smug ******** class="quote">

Day 0

"Of course," Isaac responded neutrally. "Why wouldn't I have? And do not say it is because I am a dumb ******** or an idiot or a retard, because you have said it all before."

He gestured towards the portal.

"After you, Leslie."

Isaac was going to be so ******** polite, even if it killed him.

Day 0

"Until you give me proof otherwise," Leslie snipped, shouldering through the portal with gritted teeth, "nothing's gonna ******** change."

The portal spat them out in front of the shack, a few hours past dusk. Leslie summoned Aleria for the glow alone, alert for any of the miscellaneous creatures of Halloween the dossier had briefed them about.

But there was nothing: he was alone here, in the dark, with Isaac. He looked back with a solemn glare. "I don't ******** around when there's work to do," he said, low. "What you and I have is-- it's for when there's not s**t to do. I want to get promoted sooner rather than later. We even on this?"

Day 0

Isaac said nothing as Leslie moved through the portal. He merely laughed, quietly and to himself, before following the Mist.

On the other side, Isaac's lips twitched into an ugly smile.

"I have no plans on <******** around while we are here. You are not so irresistible that I can not help myself around you. I assure you, I can."

That being said, Isaac summoned his own weapon. Lark's runes were far dimmer than Aleria's, but they sufficed. He moved past Leslie without another word, effectively dismissing the other man as he made his way to the location they would call home for the next week or so.

Day 0

He doubted Isaac because he doubted himself. Even now, the pull to him ran in his veins like a black ichor, tainted and poisonous. He followed after Isaac to the shack, where Jill and Nathan welcomed them. Jill was a tall, amazonian girl with a shock of violet hair styled into a pixie cut, her bare and muscled arms tattooed with varying constellations. Nathan was reedy, blonde, and a little on the jittery side.

They gave a grand tour that Nathan peeled off of halfway through, returning to the kitchen for his midnight prep for the next day's dinner. A casserole of some sort, apparently.

After the tour, Jill took them back to their room. The quarters were even smaller than the dossier's brief deported, barely big enough for one person, let alone two. The beds laid close enough be within arm's distance of each other, and there was no window to the above ground, to boot. There was at least ventilation, added after the fact, so that it wouldn't get stuffy.

"It ain't much, but it's home sweet home," Jill said, clapping them both heartily on the back, beaming. There was a gap between her two front teeth, in that charming sort of way. "Normally we rotate out who gets stuck in this here closet, but since y'all are the greenhorns, you get the short end of the stick. I'd apologize, but I'm not real sorry."

She stretched, yawning through her next words. "Feel free to shower up before you get on to bed, it gets a little crowded in the mornings. You do not want to get in between George and his luxury time, take it from me. My shift's fixing to start here in a minute, but if you boys need anything, Melody should be waking up soon."

And then she was gone, all six feet and change of her, and Leslie flopped onto his mattress, not eager to share a room with Isaac. (Liar.) Maybe he could get away with sleeping on the couch, since it'd be infinitely preferable to staying here. (Liar.)

"You can go first," he muttered, deciding to risk the morning. This way, he could at least change out of Isaac's sight, and pretend to be asleep when he came back.

Day 0

It was easier, Isaac thought to himself, to ignore the constant pull he felt towards Leslie - while they were here, at least. (A lie). In fact, he could probably just forget that Leslie existed completely for the next week. (Another lie). He was getting pretty good at lying to himself.

In truth, he was torn between ignoring the Mist, slaking his needs on the Mist, or trying to annoy the ever-loving s**t out of the Mist.

"Fine," Isaac grunted and dropped his pack on the free bed. He immediately stripped his shirt and tossed it aside - it landed on Leslie, through no fault of Isaac's, of course. Without another word he moved towards the shower, humming brightly under his breath as he did so.

Day 0

Leslie pulled the shirt off of him as if it were covered in toxic waste, holding it at arms length with a scowl.

"a*****e."

Day 0

The shower didn't take Isaac long; maybe fifteen minutes passed before he stepped back into the room.

The towel hit the floor, and Isaac let out a low, knowing laugh as he sat on the edge of the bed.

"Goodnight, skitten."

Day 1

Heavy fists slammed on the door, and a muffled hollering that breakfast was in thirty. Leslie rolled out of bed, disgruntled. He'd dreamed of Russia, again. It was the metal walls and being buried beneath the earth that set his teeth on edge.

He gave Isaac a baleful state before going to take a shower of his own, bringing clothes with him to change into.

"Forest patrol, today," he muttered before vanishing, which meant a day with no supervision with the object of his dread, his lust, his fury.

Day 1

Isaac was all smiles (wolfish, hungry, excitement, dread), and by the time Leslie came back he was dressed in jeans, sneakers, t-shirt and jacket.

"Forest patrol, today," he repeated the last thing that Leslie had said, fingers making quick work of his hair; he wore it in a bun at his crown, and once he was done he settled his scarf around his neck.

"Breakfast," Isaac whispered, slipping past Leslie and moving down the small hall. "You will need your energy."

Day 1

Leslie's eyes drifted over to Isaac, watching him turn into something presentable. A scoff turned into something choked off, following Isaac an entire minute later.

Breakfast was a simple affair; porridge with honey, smoothies from frozen fruit, an Indian potato and rice dish called Aloo Poha, according to Melody. There was also some bacon, because George insisted.

Melody, George, Nathan and Jill were all present, although for Jill, it was her dinner. There were two adjacent spaces for them at the round table, and Leslie piled his plate obscenely high. He always ate like it was going to be his last meal, regardless of warnings from stupid bearded assholes.

Day 1

Isaac sampled a little of everything before selecting his food; he was more than a little picky, and he did not like things that were unfamiliar to him. However, after eating a spoonful of the rice and potato dish, he proceeded to load his plate up with that, as well as porridge - and, of course, bacon.

"It is good," he complimented the food, smiling at each of their comrades in turn; he did completely ignore Leslie, of course, as he ate.

"We have forest patrol today? Leslie and myself? Anyone else?"
