User Image When your father's job was being a professional thief, sometimes money was scarce. This was one of those days, when the odd little merphony had her face pressed to the window of one of phony land's arcades mesmerized by the patterns of flashing colors and lights. Gold eyes currently locked on one of the machines nearest the window the little filly watched as another foal dodged a series of colorful geometric shapes that rained down from the top of the screen almost rhythmically. System Error sighed longingly as she tore her eyes away to examine the small pouch tied to one of her legs. The meager amount of bits inside the bag was nothing but a disappointment. There was barely enough for her to get one token, let alone play a proper game. Who went into an arcade with only one credit?

Still, a lot could be learned about a game by watching. From the older games she could see the flaws in their AI. The older they were the less complex the computerized player could be. A huge part of beating games was skill, but getting the top score sometimes meant taking advantage of the game's weaknesses. Sometimes she found out unexpected easter eggs too. Secret items and levels might be stumbled upon by the better than average player as she watched. These things she'd occasionally note down when she got home as Error was no stranger to lurking outside the arcade to watch from afar.

A distant ringing of bells indicated it was getting close to dinner time. time for her to leave. The foal pulled her face away form the window with a squeak, a smudge left where her cheek had been for the past hour. Time for the slow drag home as she'd not yet mastered the hover device her mother had hesitantly gotten her, still far too dependent on Reaper and for a fun reason.

Hope this is ok! :u I really wanted to get some more RP for Error, but their personalities together might just lead to a lot of not talking so i apologize in advance. xD

i can't brain a proper title at the moment.

He had plenty enough of his sisters getting all over his business and enjoyed privacy whenever it was achievable, so simply coming up and asking something of a stranger was unusual for him. Still, it was more unusual yet to see a merphony, especially one without those odd and delightful little hover rings.

Still, Nightshade intended to continue minding his own business, poking around the plant-nursery across from the arcade and only occasionally glancing back at the mer staring so intently through the shop windows. It was much less hard to ignore when she started dragging herself, and all he could do was wince at what the rough concrete must feel like.

Perhaps she didn’t need help. Maybe she was absolutely fine getting around like that.

The colt’s eyes closed, head dipping forward to rest against the tables holding up little growing plants, and sighed. Then he lifted his head up, squared his shoulders determined, and turned to trot across the way.

“Miss? Miss, I don’t mean to intrude, but do you need any assistance?” He called out softly, hopping the curb to stand beside the little mer pulling herself along.

The gravel crackled lightly as it scraped against the merphony's smooth skin. At this point she'd given up on caring about the nicks and cuts that would inevitably be acquired by the endeavor. Her momma's belief that Reaper had stolen her from the factory had made the carousel wary of picking up the hover devices for the little filly. Not that Error could blame the mare for trying to protect Reaper. It wasn't a surprise given the stallion's personality that he hadn't told Valkyrie the truth either. The carousel may have been a thief, but he wasn't stupid enough to kidnap her from the factory itself. Too much risk with not enough reward.

The mer let out a sigh and stopped her advance before even turning her gaze on the colt that addressed her. Her eyes lingered over him, pausing on the unusual set of pupils. For a moment she stared blankly at the unicorn, finally making a slow turn of her head to turn her attention to her tail, ground bound by the lack of technology.

"No." Tone bitter, the little filly scoffed. "I'm not helpless," the idea of being seen as such was an infuriating one. She may have only had two legs and her tail was basically useless on land, but there was no way in hell she was going to accept the another phony's pity.

"Not like you could do anything about it anyway." Her tone was cold, matter of fact. After all, another foal certainly couldn't carry her.

Now, if the filly had just turned down his offer of help, he would have just turned straight around and let her be. She was rough around the edges that was for sure, and Nightshade had no particular desire to subject himself to someone that was so intent on being unpleasant to be around, but that last statement? That was a challenge, and Nightshade was not a colt to let someone think he was so dim-witted to offer help that he had no way of actually giving.

He lifted his head with an indignant huff, held a pausing hoof out to the mer and turned to go right back to the shop he had been at. Even if she starts dragging herself again, he would easily catch up, this time hitched up to a little wagon. He had intended it for bringing his plants home, but now it was for standing next to the combative mer, brows lifted in semi-smug victory. Only a little bit though, it wasn’t very gentlemanly to gloat.

“A ride to wherever you’re going has to be much more comfortable than dragging yourself around, but the choice is yours.” He’d be perfectly happy to leave this sour filly alone and go right back to his shopping.

The little mer watched as the other foal seemingly gave up, returning back to the store he'd come from. Amusement flickered across her face, only to be replaced by seriousness as she returned to the task at hand.

She crept along the pavement, the rough concrete, pebbles, and trash scraping loudly against her belly. The filly did her best to pay them no mind, not wanting to show a sign of weakness. However, extra effort was put into avoiding chewed up gum stuck to the sidewalk. Spotting one such piece she paused just so she could give it the appropriate look of disgust before moving on.

Too bad she didn't get much farther before the colt showed up again, wagon in tow. Error's eyes narrowed into slits as she examined her chariot.

"You're one of those goody goodies daddy is also complaining about aren't you?"

Nightshade snorted, head tipping back, haughty eyes looking down his snout at the mer.

“I’m perfectly fine with leaving you here, I just wasn’t going to take you suggesting I was stupid enough to offer help I had no way of giving. But, if you want to continue being an idiot, I won’t stop you.” Yes, yes he knew that he shouldn’t be so rough with ladies, and his inner gentleman was seriously disappointed in him, but for whatever reason this stubborn mer really riled up the vinegar in him.

He trotted up a little further, bringing the wagon alongside the mer before unhitching himself.

“So, do you want a ride or not? I won’t offer again.” He was just fine going back to picking out plants and not having to worry about silly mers content to scraping up their undersides on pathways.
