Juan grinned to himself as he inspected the acorn field he had created. The idea was simple. He spread acorns across the path, then covered them in leaves from the tree. Now he would hide in the bushes and watch as others wandered on by and stumbled. It was a harmless little prank, really. At least, he thought it was. And, depending on how the strange reacted, he might carry on the joke, or he might stay hidden and wait until they passed without ever knowing he was there. It hadn’t taken him long to set the little trap up. It wasn’t anywhere near his most complicated prank, but then again, he was bored. He didn’t have a particular target in mind. Maybe that would change… eh, well, it would depend on if anyone had a satisfying enough reaction. Satisfied that his acorn field would pass an absent glance, he made his way cautiously to his hidden observation post in the bushes and settled down to watch.

Shol was exhausted. He'd just finished helping a little foal find her way home, though he wasn't certain she needed that help. An hour with her had been like being home again with his over energetic mother. Once again, he had a great deal of respect for his father for raising two sons and corralling Blossom all by himself. Shol had no clue how the stallion could have managed such a thing. Shaking his head, he didn't even notice the leaves across the path until he stepped on an acorn and went down with a yelp.

The purple stallion was a good start for Juan’s entertainment. He seemed distracted by something, though Juan wasn’t too curious about what. When he went down, the catish mini had to smother a chuckle at the sound the purple stallion made. If asked to describe it, Juan decided he would use the words yelp, shriek, and squawk. He was rather impressed that the other fellow could manage such an unusual combination. It was definitely one for the records. It was ALMOST enough to prompt him out of hiding. But Juan had learned a long time ago to wait until after he’d seen a reaction before he revealed himself.

Shol struggled back to his feet and fell at least two more times before he finally realized the wisdom of staying down and knocking the acorns away from him. While he did so, he muttered to himself, wondering aloud who would do such a thing. Well... maybe no one had, actually. After all, there were quite a few oak trees around. Maybe they had just dropped the acorns, and then a bunch of leaves fell on top of them. When he could finally stand again, he shuffled his way along the path, stepping more carefully.

Juan watched the little purple stallion shuffle his way off. It didn’t take much to realize that the other male didn’t realize he’d been pranked. The other stallion had convinced himself that pure bad luck had caused him to take a tumble, and that he was lucky no one had been around to witness the fall. Juan shook his head slightly. That was less than satisfying. He waited until the other stallion was fully out of view before he crept out of his hiding place. Even then, he stayed quiet, his tail flicking alertly, as he carefully rearranged his little trap. The first try had been amusing at first, but the target hadn’t really fulfilled Juan’s expectations. There was a certain lack of entertainment in pulling a trick over someone who didn’t realize they’d been tricked. Maybe the next one would be more satisfying. Once the trap was set up again, Juan slid back into his hiding place and waited.

Amaya skipped her way through the forest, lost in her own thoughts. Her mate was... somewhere. She'd lost track of him. That happened occasionally. She made a point of slipping away from him whenever she could buy herself enough time to set up a prank. He was her favorite target, just as she was his. It was a mutual love of a good time that had bonded the two of them together. When she hit the acorns and went down, she did so with a yelp, and then a giggle.

Did she just… laugh? Jaun felt the tip of his tail perk up at that. It was always promising when one of his targets laughed after a prank. That usually meant they had a sense of humor. Humor was a good thing. At least, it meant they wouldn’t try to skin him. Though, for some reason, those who didn’t have a sense of humor were more entertaining than those who did. Something about all the yelling and sputtering and red faces was just hilarious to the little stallion. Still, this mare could go either way. Just because she giggled didn’t necessarily guarantee she had a sense of humor.

Careful of where she placed her hooves, Amaya picked herself up. Then, just because she could, she kicked a couple acorns and giggled before looking up at the trees. They were the right sort to drop these type of little seeds. But it looked like more than a normal amount had been dumped where she had fallen. "A trap..." she muttered, more to herself. "Now I wonder why..."

Well, she wasn’t stupid. That was something at least. Though, Juan wasn’t certain it took a lot of brain power to figure out that this was a trap. She didn’t seem upset. In fact, she seemed more curious than anything else. Juan knew curiosity. He was very familiar with it, and could always recognize it in another when he saw it. So, he decided to take a calculated risk. Without leaving the safety of his hiding place, he called out, “Wonder what?”

Very few creatures passed on the opportunity to talk about themselves. They always liked to explain the thoughts in his head. The mini had no doubt he’d get to learn more about the stranger, all without leaving the safety of his hiding place.

Amaya jumped when the voice seemed to come out of nowhere. It was right on the tip of her tongue to ask who was there. But that was a silly question. Instead, she answered, "I wonder if it was a good trap or a bad trap."

A good trap or bad trap? Juan felt his eyebrow go up. No one had ever considered a trap could be a good thing before. Well, he had, but he preferred to call them tricks or jokes rather than traps. This was most definitely an interesting filly. He grinned slightly. Moving carefully and silently, he moved a few feet from where he had asked his first question. It wouldn’t do to let her figure out where he was just by the sound of his voice. Besides, he enjoyed confusing people. “If it’s a bad trap?” he asked, once he was settled in a new spot. No sooner had he finished asking than he started to move again. While she was staring at the spot where he had started, he snuck across the path behind her and ducked into the bushes out of her sight.

"If it's a bad trap, then I'll have to be annoyed," Amaya explained. "That would mean that this was something done maliciously. Probably to hurt. Or maybe I should consider running, cuz it could be that someone wanted to keep me here..."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 01, 2015 6:16 pm

Well, that was rather logical, which was somewhat boring. It made sense though, and indicated that the mare wasn’t stupid or naive. Assuming, of course, that Juan was understanding her correctly. That was never a safe assumption to make. He considered for a moment. He could press to see if he was right, or he could distract her and see where her mind jumped. That had the potential for amusement. He did enjoy watching the wheels turn in another person’s mind. Especially when they were confused. Of course, he could also let the conversation take its course. That, however, had no potential for any sort of amusement. Choices… choices… “What if it’s a good trap? What would that mean?”

Amaya grinned. "Well, then, that'd be funny, wouldn't it? I'd want to find out who did it so I could return the favor. Hey, did you do this?" she asked, peering at the last place the voice had come from.
