We've been debating for some time now whether to add Pikachu and Eevee as starters for the Kanto Pokemon Lab, since technically they were Starters that were given away to Red and Blue in Pokemon Yellow Version. Though it hasn't been done since, we thought it would be a neat idea, however since the guild has been running now for so long and this idea came late, we hoped it wouldn't offend anyone if we made the change now, so to see what the general concencus was on the matter, we thought it be best to put it up in a guild poll and ask the members! So please put in a vote and tell us what you think. c: Thank you!

I feel like if this happens, it should at least wait until something similar can be done with the other regions....It seems kind of unfair to Birch and them if Oak's the only one with two extra starters. I get it's supposed to be for nostalgia's sake, but still. sweatdrop I love the idea, though!

Im going to vote yes BUT with reserves. Mainly the fact that pikachu wasn't suppose to be ash's starter pokemon but rather clefairy was. It was a change done at the last second to switch the pink fairy which was seen as too girly for what was by all intentions a boys show/game. Switching to pikachu a gender neutral color in japan.

Always wanted to pick an Eevee in Pokemon Yellow, but obviously that never worked out. I probably will never start another character in Kanto, but since my first character is going to have an Eevee the entire time, I want more in the guild. Really should have been able to take Pikachu in the games since the start, so I like the idea of both being added as starters.

I don't particularly mind Kanto getting a few extra starters to pick, variety can always lead to interesting things, but I think it shouldn't be something limited to one region. I understand why it's just Kanto, since it's the only one that got a separate game with a separate starter, I feel like there should be some available in other regions as well. A Ralts for Hoenn or a Riolu for Sinnoh, just for an example. It'd just be a little unfair to give one region more options than another, since a person's decision will sway a lot more once they're given more than just the fire, water, and grass options. So I have no opinion atm, but if we give the other regions more options I'm all for it.
Also, just as an aside, I feel like there have been characters in the anime and manga who started out with other pokemon given to them from the lab, but I'm not sure. Manga aside, does anyone know if there were any other instances in the the anime like that?

Even though it's an anonymous poll I put no, I mean every region has three starters and these are Pokemon you can't catch in the wild. I can locate a wild Pikachu or Eevee to catch but I can't find a Charmander in the wild or anything. I think that's what it means to be a starter Pokemon.

I think adding these two are a good idea. I like anything that makes this more game accurate, and since it really wouldn't be broken (not that I can see anyway) I do not mind. smile And I think it would be really cool!

I vote no because then you would have to remove them from the rest of the guilds regions to make them unique. there is a huge difference if you choose Pikachu as a starter... you lose a starter. Pikachu can be found in viridian forest soon after, so really no point.
BUUUT. if it were to be done, the idea of alternate starters, then youd need more balance than Pikachu and eevee.

I purpose:
kanto Pikachu, Eevee, Cleffairy
jhoto Mareep, Tyrogue, Togepi
hoenn Ralts, Spheal, Aaron
sinnoh Roulu, munchlax, Snover
unova sewaddle, sandile, Gothita
kalos Flabebe, honedge, goomy
the first three regions for nostalgia, the rest I tried to even out based on evolutions.
preferably, id like to see a starter set up for Villain characters. people that plan to be bad guys can have a starter to match their team. i.e hoenn would have a choice of sharpedo or Numel, while Kanto has the choice of Meowth or nidoran. Jhoto would fall under the other half of team rocket: Houndour or Sneasel. ect.
The only other choice I see is creating an event pokeball with the effect "Any Pokémon in this pokeball will obey regardless of number of owned badges"(cough cough* Cherish ball and give Cherish ball Effect to a new pokeball cough cough* lol) Save the pokeball and claim one of your horoscope event pokemon as your unofficial, official starter lol

I very much like the idea of adding pikachu and eevee. I think adding them and only them is justifiable, given their canon-ness as starters in the games. However, I agree more with the idea of adding a few starters to every region (I really like Sic Skeptic's list! )- it allows for more customization of characters and creates a neat choice for people.
I disagree that starters (if they aren't the original fire/water/grass) should be unobtainable in the wild, however- it's the player's choice if they wish to begin with one of those pokemon instead of the original trio. I understand that it's more in-line with games for starters to be rare, but keep in mind that starting in X and Y, you could actually find middle evolutions in the friend safari. Besides, oftentimes many of the starter pokemon can be obtained through horoscopes, events, or the use of event items.

^^^ gave me an idea. We should have friend safaris. Have its own subforum, everyone gets one thread their own thread per gaia character. So no matter how many characters you have, you cant have more than one friend safari. Randomize type by generating a number 1-18 then choose any 4 non legendary pokemon to have in the friend safari Of that type. Have the friend safari as it is in the game, with one location to enter from in the overworld before heading to the friend safari subforum. Like in the game, make it only available after the pokemon league has been challenged.
