Chel did not listen to Shun for a single second before running off to examine the castle on her own. New places made her both excited and uncomfortable at the same time; there was a great need to explore and get the upperhand on anyone else exploring, but there was also an extreme danger associated with this castle. One that Chel surprisingly acknowledged.

She watched as a red knight attempted to attack a crystal with their spear. The weapon soon became engulfed in the crystal as well, and a white knight had to pry the red knight off of it lest he succumb to the same fate.

This left Chel wondering if it was the attack that had provoked the crystal's state, or if it was simply the crystal's dormant state.

A sharp corner and she found herself in a small offshoot hallway, one that might have been pretty had it not been coated with pulsing, blackish crystals. Leaving no stone unturned, Chel wandered down the hallway slowly, mindful of the crystal. There was one particularly large crystal that sang a siren's ballad to her; so much so that she hardly recognized her fingers reaching out to touch it.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER Chel is covered in cloaks. Long blonde hair that's messy and bright blue eyes that seem to mischievous for their own good. She's got a scar on her lip and a saunter to her walk that hints she is absolutely up to no good.

Jack was equal amounts curious and cautious, driven by a need to understand even though at this point all he understood was that they were caught up in a series of events none of them could have possibly imagined. The black crystals in particular reminded him of the vision from the mirror, reflecting back only twisted versions of himself that seemed more monster than human. More illusions, more tricks--he couldn't be persuaded otherwise, not when he held the burden of responsibility that was his new title.

(He had to hope he wouldn't go the way Gawain did, driven mad by magic.)

Perhaps it was foolish to separate from the others, but Jack was confident in his battle capabilities at this point: hell, even an elder worm didn't seem so bad now, and that thing could easily wrap itself around the castle several times over. But as he travelled down a particular corridor glistening with crystals, he could hear the sound of footsteps. Suspicious, he trailed after the noise until he found the source--the unsurprising source.

"What are you..." And then he saw her hand too close to the crystals, and his eyes widened in some alarm.

Sound broke the spell and Chel's hand immediately went to her chest. Away from the crystal and away from harm.

Her glazed over eyes immediately registered the hulking figure at the other end of the hallway. Suspicion drove her actions, backing her feet away towards the far wall. "Even if I was doing something," she said airily, "It's none of your business."

Ducking his head under the threshold, Jack entered the room proper with an eyeroll. "Just surprised you aren't tagging along with your cousin," he said. "Found anything interesting besides these strange crystals?"

For every step Jack took towards her, Chel took another one back towards the far wall.

"It's none of your business," she repeated.

Frowning, he stopped moving towards her. "After everything we've accomplished together, do you still not trust me?" he had to ask. "We don't have to work together, but get a ******** grip; I'm not here to hurt you."

"I don't know why I'm s'posed to trust any of you," she spat, "None of y'all trust me."

Maybe Shun's words had had more impact than intended.

"I trust you." The words came out before he could fully understand why. It was foolish, but he was already a dead man; what were more mistakes now?

Jack raised his hands to show that they were empty. "You're an a*****e, yes, and you have a major problem with authority, but I believe that I can."

"Oh okay, thanks so much. You've solved everything." She gave a frustrated noise. It was trapping, this connection.

Chel hadn't realized she'd backed up enough to brush up against a crystal. In moments, she was gone.

Chris hadn't been around at the beginning - he'd split to check out another area - but as soon as he saw Jack and Chel facing off he'd rushed to intervene. But he wasn't paying attention and his shoulder hit a crystal and he staggered. Before he could right himself he blacked out.

Jack made an exasperated noise of his own. "I wasn't trying to--"

And then he saw Chel's eyes go black. As she went for her sword, he pulled out his longbow and reached for an arrow, backing away. He whirled at the someone of someone behind him, and his arrow shot off and hit a wall as Chris tripped into him.

A wall of black crystals checked his own staggering.

one push

Chel staggered through the portal. Only one.

There's a blur of status reports. She doesn't remember most of it. All she can remember is a distinct ringing in her ears, screams of a girl before there's a sickening crack; it's a long ways to fall like that.

Suicide they document it as. She writes it twenty times over. Thirty. Fourty. She can't remember how many times she's written cause of death: suicide, cause of death: suicide. Death always did like their documentation.

It's hours before she makes it back to the dorms. She sees the door with the long scratch in it and she feels a sickening satisfaction.

< The truth. >

That's right, there is satisfaction in the truth. That two hands pushed, that two minds plotted for days, watched the cliffside with a wolf's hunger. It won't be long before reports start to contradict, before a death hunter investigates the murder suicide like they do all suicides.

Chel's mind has already projected the future. There's no way. She's only got a few days. She thumbs at the ring around her finger, takes it off and throws it at the door. She runs, runs, runs. She goes home.

"Jack?" she yells at the doorway of the town house. "Hawthorn get your a** out here I'm home." She's had a whole walk through the towns to clear her head, to make her plans.

one push

He made dinner today; Chel was going to be out for a while, so he had to at least try. For the second time in a row, the chicken parmesan pasta managed not to get burnt, and he had to exert control over himself not to just eat it all and make a second batch--no need to tempt fate.

Jack had expected a text as that was usually how she let him know she was back. The yell from outside was the first sign that something was different.

Putting his fork down, he made his way to the front door and unlocked it. "Took you long enough," he greeted her, his specially reserved smile for her dimming when he read her expression. "What, did you lose the keys again?"

one push

Chel pushed through the door and immediately shut it behind him. It gave her a sense of privacy that didn't properly exist anywhere else on the island. His backside was pushed into the door next; she buried herself in him without waiting for a bed or a couch. He's her only resource.

"I ******** up. I ******** up Jack, I ******** up." It's pointless and dramatic to hide it from him. Hiding it would just make her last few days an agonizing secret. It's not fair to Jack; he'd have her ripped away with no warning. At least this way she can buy them competency. Maybe they can plan something. She'd rather they be on the same page than disconnected. Not for this.

revengeance v 2.0

He was sitting heavily on Jack's chest, knees digging sharply into his ribs. Mud seeped through his jeans as rain trickled down the back of his neck, but he was burning alive with his anger. He could feel the way Jack's breath stuttered under him, and it only fueled the fire. He gripped the collar of the man's shirt a little tighter, just a little more pressure on his trachea. He had his blade in the air and it would only take one more hit.

Good Game, Axten.

"This is not a game! Her life is not a goddamn game, Hawthorn!"
