It was yet another beautiful day and Del'nal was off skipping among the wet grass. "Look! There's a rainbow over there! Let's go chase it!" She gleefully said to her daughter who just smiled and nodded in return. Without waiting she followed the colors, not caring to pay attention to the twists and turns that she made. If her daughter wasn't with her, then she would probably end up lost and never able to find her way home. This is why she was never allowed to leave the protective area of the herd without someone to come with her. Most times it was her mate Hinote, but as of late her daughter was coming with her, so as to give Hinote a break from the heart attack that Del was sure to cause some day.
Not that Del ever noticed any of this going on anyway.
The rainbow was vibrant, almost as if making up for the sudden storm that had gone through just a little while ago. Del had been chasing butterflies when a large boom echoed in the sky, sending her flying into the nearby forest to hide, almost losing her daughter in the process. Now that the rainbow was in the sky, the storm was long forgotten. "Look at the pretty colors! It's so pretty!"
Skylark smiled as her mother darted off after the rainbow, wondering if the older mare would ever realize that it was impossible to catch a rainbow, especially if you didn't fly. She was glad though that her mother was no longer scared after that storm nearly caused her to lose her mother for good. It had been agreed among her father and her grandparents, that if her mother got lost one more time, that she would never be allowed to leave the herd lands again because they feared for her safety. While understandable, she also knew how miserable it would make her mother and so she took on more of these responsibilities to help out and keep her mother happy.
"Wait up mother!" She called out gently as her mother started to get to far ahead. Quickly picking up her pace so she can keep up, a small laugh escaped her as she watched her mother bounce with joy about the colors of the rainbow. How wonderful it must be to live like that, and never worry about the dangers that surrounded their family. She didn't even think that her mother knew about how her sister, Sky's aunt, was a batwalker who was trying to destroy the family. Things had been quiet for some time, but there was still always that fear and worry that hung over her grandparents.
"Mother! Please slow down!"

Although Morrow felt most at home when he was surrounded by trees, he had temporarily given up his solace in the forest to try to coax an injured rabbit out of its hiding place in a small clearing south of its borders. The wary rattling he could hear behind him made his oddly-shaped mouth twist in wry amusement as the kodama paced the treeline, not willing to leave the safety of their dense canopy. "Making noise will make this take longer," he murmured quietly as he lowered his head towards the frightened rabbit, knowing that they could hear him despite the volume. In response, the commotion faded a bit, and the blind stallion returned to the task at hand.
The little creature trembled violently as it sank back into the log, its hiding place, and eyed him with obvious trepidation. He only smiled in response, one ear twitching, but let the calming glow of his tendrils cast a soft light into the dank hideaway, and the rabbit seemed to calm, mesmerized. Slowly, it inched forward, sniffing tentatively at the bits of proffered carrot that he had left to lure it out of hiding, and began to relax at his quiet reassurances and gentle touch.
Gently, carefully, Morrow herded the small animal closer to him, but a feminine giggle and concerned calls broke his concentration, head jerking up to stare sightlessly into the distance. His senses told him that it was a mare... two mares, minding their own business and probably not aware that they were about to stumble upon him and his small charge. The injured rabbit shrank back behind his massive hoof at the noise, trembling once again, but didn't retreat back into its hollow quite yet. With a reassuring croon, the forest stallion simply straightened and turned towards where he could feel the strangers approaching, not bothering to speak first- his assurances that he had benign intentions despite his appearance would make little difference, if they chose to fear him. It had been a hard lesson to learn, but some could not be dissuaded from fear in the face of... well, whatever he looked like.
The kodama had stopped their nervous pacing, frozen by the shadow of the largest oak on the outskirts of the forest as they stared at the newcomers as well, ready to withdraw if a wrong move was made.

"Pretty colors, pretty colors, pretty colors!" The starry colored mare sang as she followed the rainbow. Alas, as with all rainbows, it was starting to fade and Del's attention then turned to her surroundings and she noticed the stallion. He looked like he glowed. It quickly caught her attention and she darted for him, ignoring the calls of her daughter who had yet to see him.
Quickly she came up near to him, out of breath, but smiling. "Hi! You're pretty. You glow. I like you." She said all in one breath as soon as she could properly speak. Del'nal was bouncing from hoof to hoof gently as she waited for the stallion to introduce himself. All she wanted to do was play. She thought playing hide and seek in the woods would be fun because he glowed! She might actually get to win for a change since she could never find anyone. Skylark sighed as she saw her mother dart off. While her mother couldn't fly, she was certainly quick on the ground, so the younger mare took to the sky so she could keep up a bit better. Yet, what she saw when she finally caught up to her mother took her breath away and caused her heart to stop. Her mother was talking to someone that could easily kill her!
She quickly landed with a loud thud, all four hooves hitting at the same time on the ground, and got between that monster and her mother. "Mother, get away from that thing. You have no idea if he is even dangerous." What she feared though was that he was somehow in alliance with her aunt, and that her and her mother could easily be in danger. "Let's leave before he tries to attack us." Yet, as she tried to nudge her mother along, Del'nal quickly darted around her and got closer to the stallion. "Ignore her! I want to play!" She heard her mother cheerfully say, at which she sighed. This was not going to be easy trying to get her mother away.

Whatever he had expected, this wasn't it. Morrow fumbled for words as he sensed the energetic mare approach him and babble in his direction, spouting words that he had never heard directed at him before. 'Pretty'? That... wasn't the word that most used, and 'I like you' was a phrase that didn't usually just come out of the blue like that. At least, not towards him. "Er..." he opened his jagged mouth, but shut it again just as quickly, at a loss for words. The friendliness, while surprising, was... welcome, although he had a feeling that the other hoof would drop momentarily. He sputtered awkwardly for a moment before gathering his wits about him and murmuring a soft, "Hello..."
No sooner had he replied with a greeting, though, then a woosh of air ruffled his long mane, and the second mare thudded to a halt in front of him, predictably spouting the same fears that he was intimately familiar with, though he supposed he couldn't exactly fault either of them for that. He remained silent, stoic, and listened to the tirade, unmoved.
Well. 'Thing' was a new one, although he supposed it was less hurtful than 'monster'- not that he was hurt by it, but it wasn't exactly pleasing, either. A gentle sigh was heaved from his lungs as he examined what he could 'see' of the two mares, urging the small creature still cowering behind his leg backwards a bit, edging himself between it and the intruders in their midst. Not that he believed that they were dangerous, but the poor rabbit was absolutely shivering in terror, still pained by the injury he could sense it carried, and the tension in the air wasn't exactly helping things. He could hear the kodama withdrawing into the shadows of the trees behind him, for once not making the telltale click-clack noises he was so used to hearing follow him everywhere.
Deciding that remaining silent wasn't doing any of them any good, Morrow straightened and cleared his throat pointedly, careful not to make any sudden or jarring movements. "I have no interest in attacking anyone..." he spoke quietly, but firmly. "I don't think I'm the best choice of a playmate, though." He was almost tempted to smile at the request made by what was apparently the older mare, but refrained- anything remotely threatening probably would not go over well.

Del'nal completely ignored his concerns about not being a good playmate, not even noticing that there was anything remotely wrong with him. To her, he still seemed as normal as her and her daughter. Yet, she was getting a little agitated at Skylark's insistence on leaving. "He is perfectly harmless. He glows. Anyone that glows won't attack. Even he said he won't attack. Which means he won't and I believe him. If you don't want to stay you can just fly away." She huffed at the younger mare, before turning back to the stallion.
At that moment the rabbit caught her attention, and she lowered her head to take a closer look. "Hello mr. bunny. You're cute and fluffy." she whispered, her excitement still able to be heard. Looking back up at the stallion, she smiled. "I'm Del'nal. I like butterflies. What do you like?" Shaking her head, Skylark sighed, worried about this whole encounter. The thing claimed he wouldn't attack them, but he just seemed so...different! Seemed like the type of creature that would be in league with her aunt, and it made her nervous. Her wings shifted against her as she debated to fly and get help or to watch and see how this encounter turns out. Why couldn't her mother just be like everyone else?!
"I'll say it right here and right now, I don't trust you. Make one wrong move and I will do whatever it takes to protect my mother." She eyed him as she spoke, watching, waiting for him to suddenly cry out that he was one of Neva's minions and he would kill them both.
