Valkyrie peered into the clearing looking for any signs of life. Not seeing anyone close by she crept slowly into the tall grass at the edge of the clearing. Here the grass was taller then she was making it possible for her to get closer to her goal without being seen. Her goal the apple trees in the middle of the clearing.

Reaching the end of the tall grass she paused, from this point on the grass was well maintained until you got near the trees where there was no grass at all. She once more peered out and still not seeing anyone to close started a hopping run to the closest tree. Her strange style of running was thanks to her talons but the lack of running skill was made up by her ability to climb. An ability she made quick use of once she reached the tree.

Digging her talons into the bark she slowly made her way along the lowest branch that would hold her weight. She paused and looked around again, so far so good, it didn't look like anyone had noticed her. The last thing she wanted was to spend the day getting apples for the soq to lazy to grab their own. Getting as close to a ripe looking apple as she could Valkyrie quickly reached out and grabbed it with her mouth before carefully backing up to the trunk. Settling into a spot where she was braced by multiple branches she balanced on her paws and dropped the apple into her talons.

Riomie had been resting in the shade of the woods, just outside the clearing that had the apple trees. She had helped herself to a few earlier before deciding this was a good play to take a rest from her journey. So, she had a good view of the little... She really didn't know what the little mare was, honestly. Rio had heard of the Usida, of course, but had never met one. And she had never heard that they had tails like that, or scales like that, or front claws. Interesting. With her glowing red eyes fixed on the small mare, who was now sitting in the tree with her apple, Riomie rose from where she rested, shaking herself to dislodge any dirt from her. It took her a moment to make sure her wings were still clean before she folded them all down, giving the impression that she only had one, or two pairs, depending on the perspective of the viewer.

Padding out into the clearing on silent paws, she looked up at the Usida, which was a strange thing for her. She hadn't met anyone who was bigger than her, not since she was full grown. Rio didn't approach the tree, not yet, instead she called out a greeting. She didn't want to startle the mare into falling out of the tree.

No matter the size, that would hurt. And she knew, she'd fallen out of plenty of trees when she was younger and trying to learn to fly. Luckily, she hadn't broken anything, hadn't really hurt herself aside from that one time. But then, if she hadn't cut up her leg on some brush, she never would have met, let alone talked to, Arioso. Smiling at the thought of the brightly colored unicorn, she took a moment to prepare herself for meeting someone who may not want her around.

"Hello up there." She kept her wings tight to her body, having had people interested in them in a bad way before. It was enough that she was pawed and, well, herself. But having someone seek to harm her because of her wings was a new, and unwelcome, surprise. "That is quite a useful trick. I have to fly to get my apples." Rio tossed her mane out of her eyes as a distraction as she assessed the little one in the tree. This was a first for her and, probably, an important step in her mission. Usida were probably as worthy of Valhalla as anyone else, and she had no reason to exclude them from her search. So, she would find the measure of this tree-climbing, bushy tailed, clawed mare that Rio had found. It would not be a final judgement on the species, or even on the mare herself. So, she could relax a bit and approach the tree slowly, giving the Usida plenty of time to run if she so desired.
