There was one more task he had to do to finish his set of armor. He required a mantle, covered in the light blue flowers of a very specific species of water lily, thought to only bloom at night. It was all he needed to be complete. It was odd, as Ridon packed his bags one last time, to think that he 'needed' a set of armor to be buried in. That was really all it was at this point. He was to die a Great Knight, for Camelot, for a dead King. Why should he bother caring about something so trivial? Yet, as he thought about it, he realized that it wasn't trivial. He was proving to himself he could do it. That he could be the Great Knight everyone wanted him to be.
For some, that would mean having a full set of armor to go into battle with. For others it would mean having killed many monsters in the arena and beyond. He hoped for his knights, the effort made would be enough. To prove he could do it, just as much as anyone else.
He mounted his pony one last time, and trekked onwards.

The lone goat from before returned. They circled each other for many minutes, sizing each other up, and taking stake of what the other was capable of. They matched the other step for step, an endless cycle neither were willing to break. Once, twice, four times they circled as tension filled the air between them. One breath, two breath, and then the moment shattered in a cacophony of hooves and bleats.
The encounter ended with the goat dead on the ground, and a gash across Ridon's face. He paid his respects to the beast and moved on in silence. May he rest in peace, oh noble goat.

The roots of the trees in the forest were harsh, and his pony caught it's leg on one. He patted her neck, telling her it was okay and he could make it on his own. He used some of his knight tabard to bandage her leg, then sent her on her way.
Ridon hefted the remaining food over his shoulder and journeyed through the rest of the forest alone.

He was unsure how Primrose found him again, but he guided her into the caverns as he'd done so many times. Yet it was not long into the journey that her maimed leg came back. He sighed and sent her back on her way, with strict orders to actually make it home this time. Yes he could make it on his own. No he did not need her supervising. She'd been sent home many times before this, and hadn't come back. Why was this time so different?
He reasoned, later, that it was probably because she knew he was about to die. She wanted to spend as much time with him as possible before then. Ridon made a note to groom her when he returned, and feed her. It was the least he could do to help her.

He reached the summit with slow, deliberate steps. Ridon took his time, took in the scenery. The old man was no longer there, and his mantle was waiting for him at the end. In his way, however, sat a giant eagle.
He'd only encountered them once, but they were vicious with giant talons and more bite than the goats. Ridon assessed the situation critically. The final boss of his quest and he needed to pass it to acquire his mantle.
The battle was fought bravely, though he came out with more scratches and bloody because of it. He dashed for his mantle and then left, a full set of armor under his belt.
