The manor had been relatively quiet since the news of the war's tide turning, and not in Oba's favor. It had actually been some time after the war had actually ended that L'lhynd had even found out. It had made sense why he'd been told to stay in the manor and wasn't sent on any shopping errands. It had also made avoiding Zuberi, and already arduous task, that much harder. It wasn't like L'lhynd could tell the young master that he had other work to be doing… when it came down to it, Zuberi was his work. Anything Zuberi required or needed… and any time Zuberi wanted his 'friendship'. It didn't matter though, soon he would be free from his proverbial chains. He was already supposed to be free, but it didn't feel like it. This home was a prison… and soon he would make his escape.

He sat at a window in an area not often stained with foot traffic, thankful for the quiet. The morning light was good for the sewing he was doing, and he felt lucky that it was nothing more than a little replacement on some worn fabric. It was mostly mindless, so he could let his thoughts be put to good use. Like what time to leave, what to bring and which routes to take to lead him from the city. He had already decided he would just leave in what he was wearing, no need to burden himself with processions which had never truly been his own. But what to do about food? Sleeping accommodations? And most of all what to do about his safety… he sighed softly and then grew very still, hand poised in the middle of a stitch.

s**t… someone was coming.

Zuberi marched down the hall, anger vibrating through his entire body. His uncle was being unreasonable. Of course, his parents had said the same about him, but he dismissed their words His uncle had dangled in front of his face the possibility of a new sword in exchange for Zuberi visiting. Why the old man wanted to visit him was anyone's guest, but Zuberi suspected it was because he got a sort of twisted joy from irritating Zuberi. There were very few people that could get a real reaction out of him, but his uncle happened to be one of the few and he was well aware of it. Even with the temptation of a new sword, Zuberi would have refused, but then his uncle had to say one word. Lu. Swordsman Lu to be exact. A sword maker in Awat who made custom swords, but only for people who deserved them. They were only given to people he deemed worth of having them and no amount of money could make him part with it and his Uncle said he could get him a meeting with Lu.

Zuberi figured it was worth a visit, except his uncle had to throw in one more condition. You can't bring L'lhynd. Zuberi gritted his teeth. He didn't understand what his uncle was up to. Why couldn't he bring L'lhynd? L'lhynd was his and he went where Zuberi went. What was even stranger was that his uncle liked L'lhynd. Said the Matori had spunk. So why hadn't he wanted him to come. It confused him and infuriated him, but the temptation to really get a Lu sword was too much.

On top of it all, he had been searching for L'lhynd for the last hour without success. It made his bad mood even worst. Where is he? He hurried down the hall, frustrated until he saw a familiar blue. Just the sight of the Matori made some of the tension leave his shoulders, though his scowl remained. He sped up his steps until he was standing in front of the Matori, hardly even realizing he was looming.

"I've been looking for you. What are you doing?" His words were clipped, annoyed. He didn't bother gentling them, though his irritation wasn't actually directed at L'lhynd.

L'lhynd had already known that it would be Zuberi before the Oban had even rounded the corner. It wasn't that far fetched though, Zuberi always managed to track him down. This wasn't even a very good hiding spot, it was more of an avoiding spot if anything. L'lhynd did have some really good hiding spots... but for the most part would only ever be able to use them once or twice before Zuberi knew of their location. The Matorian was still holding perfectly still, gaze focused on Zu as he marched down the hall. The Oban was definitely annoyed, definitely upset about something or other. It could have just been that L'lhynd hadn't been glued to his side for a couple of hours. Usually that was a big annoyance for Zuberi, which L'lhynd would never understand. When he'd first been stollen into the 'care' of the family he'd been as nasty as he could without much progress of making the Oban dislike him.

When Zuberi reached him L'lhynd found himself automatically leaning back a little, slightly out of the window. He was just thankful he had good balance. Zu was always breaking into L'lhynd's personal bubble... he hated it. His eyes flickered downwards to the needle and thread in his hand before moving back up to boldly meet Zu's eyes for a moment. "I've just been mending some of your things for your trip, since I won't be able to come along and do it on the journey. I thought it might be nice for you, Zuberi." L'lhynd kept his tone even, calm. His eyes had since dropped to focus on Zu's chin. He knew Zuberi didn't really need his clothes mended, that his family could just afford to buy new ones, but L'lhynd needed something to practice on besides his own clothing. Different materials to work with, trickier fabrics!

He held up the 'last piece' of sewing he'd been doing for Zu to see for himself. It was a silk handkerchief, the hole almost mended with some fine gold colored silken thread. "This one is your favorite, isn't it?" He forced a smile for the briefest amount of time he could get away with before bringing his attention back to the cloth, stitching the last bit quickly, having no real clue if it was Zuberi's favorite or not but figuring it didn't really matter. "And now it's finished." He slid from the window but had to lean against it, forgetting how close the older Oban had been standing. L'lhynd feared if he stood up straight he'd be flush against the other... he really needed to talk to Zu about the personal space thing again. Not that the a** would listen.

L'lhynd's chin was tucked to his chest in an attempt to create some space between he and Zuberi, his eyes focused on their feet. "I should return this to your belongings to pack, if you'd like." It was unlikely he'd get out of Zuberi's sights for the rest of the day now that the Oban had found him, unfortunately.

"No," Zuberi said, gazing down at the handkerchief. Gently he took it from L'lhynd's hand, looking over the fabric. He didn't understand things about sewing or fabric, but he knew the handkerchief had been sown with incredible care by L'lhynd and that was enough for him. He had never had a favorite handkerchief Why would he? Clothes were meant for a purpose and once that purpose was no longer accomplished, they were discarded. But...

"I'll keep it. It is...my favorite." At least now it was, because L'lhynd had deemed it so. It was the same for the gold ear cuff that L'lhynd had once complimented him on, so now he always wore even though he didn't care for jewelry and accessories. The same for the braid with it's beads that he had grown use to wearing now, but had been instigated when in a jealous fit as a boy he demanded L'lhynd braid his hair like he had done the servant girl that had distracted his attention from where it should have been, namely on Zuberi. And so today he had a favorite handkerchief, which he carefully folded and tucked away in his pocket.

Once he did it he took a minute to just look at L'lhynd and to feel the warmth of his presence as he stood close. His parents were always telling him to give L'lhynd some space, but Zuberi never listened. He liked being close to L'lhynd. It felt...good. Still, he knew there was packing to do, something he could probably leave to L'lhynd to do alone, but with his visit to his uncle without L'lhynd, he saw no reason to extend their separation even a moment by leaving him now, when in a few hours he would be gone.

Just the thought had him scowling once more. Reluctantly he pulled away from L'lhynd. "We need to pack."

Well then, Zu didn't actually have a favorite handkerchief. L'lhynd wasn't that surprised, nor was he upset for making the wrong assumption because usually when he made something into a bigger deal than it was…

"I'll keep it. It is...my favorite."

There it was. L'lhynd was not blind, he clearly saw some of the changes he'd been directly responsible for in Zuberi. Physical, all. The gold ear cuff he'd told Zu he looked dazzling in, though his words had meant to be undercutting and mean spirited. Zu had clearly not gotten the memo. To be fair, Zu did look good in it, but that wasn't something L'lhynd would ever admit out loud in a serious way. Or the braid Zuberi insisted L'lhynd put in his hair every so often so it stayed fresh and neat, only brought about because Zu had seen him sitting with a servant girl a few years his junior. She'd been new, devastated and… well L'lhynd had done what he could to cheer her up. Of course Zuberi wouldn't have liked that, it wasn't like L'lhynd went out of his way to cheer the Oban up. Just when he felt like he was doing his job while accomplishing that particular task. The braid looked fantastic too, though L'lhynd attributed that more to the Oban's silky hair rather than his braiding skills… which were sub par, to be honest. Zu could have looked good with curlier hair, straight hair or even hair cropped as short as L'lhynd's own… though again, he was sure that had to do with Zu's privileged nature. Most haircuts could look good if you paired them with the right clothes and the right lighting, right?

L'lhynd's eyes followed along with Zu's fingers, twisted into the fabric L'lhynd had just mended. He watched how the Oban neatly folded the little cloth and slipped it away into a pocket. L'lhynd's gaze remained still on the pocket for a moment as he moved past the urge to roll his eyes, something he might have done in the past but had all but mastered not doing in the present.

He was very aware of the silence that had blanketed them, and even more aware of Zuberi's eyes on him as they both just stood there. His eyebrows drew down very slightly as he continued to stare at Zu's pocket, though finally he let his gaze meander up along the fine clothing his Oban master wore. He still had not been allowed to mend anything too expensive, all of those garments went to Okyia. She always said he was still too young, still too inexperienced. Here is a handkerchief, here is a pair of socks. One day he would make fabulous garments from scratch… one day. Or maybe he would be stuck here, at Zuberi's side for all of his existence. He figured that road would not be a long one, of course. He'd already been part of Zu's life for nine years, he wasn't sure he could handle even another nine.

L'lhynd's eyes flickered up to Zu's own, just barely meeting them before fleeing to the Oban's mouth, taking in the scowl. L'lhynd was just about to squeeze his way out of the oddly intimate meeting when Zuberi finally pulled away, taking a step or two back. L'lhynd took a deep breath, happy for this. He was also happy that Zuberi was packing, was leaving… he shouldn't let that happiness show itself anywhere other than his thoughts though. "Of course." He also wouldn't show how annoyed he was that Zu had invited himself along to pack… which meant he would be sitting on the bed watching the entire time. Or more likely trying to tell L'lhynd he was doing his job wrong and trying to show him the proper way to pack his belongings… L'lhynd was almost a little surprised how often Zuberi ended up doing things for himself, rather than having L'lhynd do them. L'lhynd just had to pretend to be a little worse at whatever task they were doing… or flatter Zu.

He slipped past Zu without another word, though he knew Zu disliked when he tried to walk ahead, L'lhynd had felt. Which was why he tried to do it so often.

Zuberi frowned when L'Lhynd walked ahead of him. He hated that. It wasn't a pride thing; at least he didn't think so. He just preferred it if L'lhynd walked beside him. It felt...better that way. Luckily, Zuberi was taller and therefore graced with a longer stride, so it never was very hard for him to catch up. In a few steps he was easily keeping pace with the Matorian. He smiled a little to himself, 'accidentally' brushing against the Matorian's side. Usually, Zuberi would choose not to be so sneaky with his touches, but a long time ago, when he had went to see his first lady of the night, she had explained to him the benefits of being subtle with touch. Over the years he had taken her advice and applied it to L'lhynd. Giving him small touches here and there.

Most of the time the Matorian ignored him or pulled back, but Zuberi didn't mind, just the fleeting touches were enough to give him a small pleasure and the times when L'lhynd pulled away, though they had bothered him before, now he took a strange pleasure in the action. Something inside him like the thought of being able to affect him, no matter the outcome. He had once told this to the same lady of the night who had given him the initial advice. She had laughed and said he had a twisted personality. He supposed he did, but he didn't care, not when it came to L'lhynd.

They quickly reached Zuberi's room and as L'lhynd moved to go inside, Zuberi stepped into his space, reaching over the smaller man , caging him against the door briefly as he pushed the door open. "Let me get that for you," Zuberi said.

L'lhynd couldn't wait for a few years to pass, when he'd be just as tall as the Oban who'd already caught up to him. Unless Zuberi continued to grow... L'lhynd's arm jerked closer to his body and his shoulders remained hunched as he shot a glare at Zuberi's elbow. L'lhynd was not stupid, he knew Zu wasn't clumsy. He also never really saw Zu bump into others before so it pissed him off that the Oban was always bumping into his smaller frame. L'lhynd considered it to be more childish bullying than his own passive aggressive technique. He chose not to say anything, this time. He even forced his shoulders back to a natural stance and his arms to a more normal position, pretending that it hadn't bothered him in the least. A few more nights... if even that. If he could keep reminding himself of that perhaps he could even be nice to Zuberi today...

As they reached Zuberi's room L'lhynd had moved forward to get the door, hand jerking back from the knob as Zu's own was suddenly grasping it. His eyes flickered to the other side where Zu's hand slapped against the door's surface. L'lhynd's breath hitched and his heart rate jumped to an unhealthy speed as he tried to figure out what was going on. He didn't like being trapped, even the idea of being trapped scared him. Not that he was scared... just.. just worried. His head had whipped around so he could look over his shoulder but he was just met with Zu's face really close to his own and he felt the blood flush to his cheeks, though he couldn't place exactly why he was embarrassed.

Probably because it wasn't embarrassment... it was just some weird new feeling of anger... Zu's lips were moving but L'lhynd hadn't really caught anything Zu was saying. The only thing he could hear was his heart pounding in his ears. He swallowed, standing there dumbly as he waited for his senses to catch up with the situation. He wanted to poke the Oban in the eye... but the last time he'd intentionally acted out in a violent manner towards Zu and Zu's parents had found out had been bad.

He was breathing through his nose still, but the breaths were coming too hard. Dizzy... scared. Worried. Angry, embarrassed... something.. too many emotions, too confusing. His lips parted as though he wanted to ask a question or tell the older boy to back off. He licked them because they were incredibly dry and finally felt his legs cooperated to move him away from Zuberi and what would have been into the door if Zu hadn't opened it.

His head swung back forward and he stumbled a little as he entered the Oban's room, only causing L'lhynd to feel more frustrated. "H-how kind of you. But please, I should be the one opening doors Zuberi." His voice was shaky, breathy. He cleared his throat. He could feel tears pricking ath the corner of his eyes, which only made him angrier. He shut them for a moment and took a deep breath, steadying his inner turmoil. As he exhaled he opened his eyes again, stalking into the room to where he knew Zu kept his traveling trunks and pulled one down from near the top of the pile, harder than necessary. It made him feel better as the furniture smacked against the floor and he sort of wished it had broken.

"It's unwise to leave packing for the last minute." He didn't know why he said that, mostly just to test his voice. It was back to normal, he was glad. The anger had won out, he was thankful of that too. "I should have done so much sooner, how foolish of me." Too much time had passed between the two statements, it was clear just who he thought was unwise out of he and Zuberi.

Zuberi was very sure there was something wrong with him. The way L'lhynd had looked at him, the flush that rose on his cheek, the emotions that had crossed his face before he had hurriedly back into the room, all of it sent a wonderful thrill through his body. Yes, he definitely had a twisted personality, because he knew the emotions that crossed L'lhynd's face hadn't all been good. He even felt a twinge of guilt that was quickly washed away with the thought of how he wanted more of L'lhynd's blushing face.

He stayed standing in the doorway, watching as L'lhynd went to collect himself. His voice shaky and breathy, and completely mesmerizing. It was hard for him not to move, to do something. He clenched the door. It was something he had come to terms with some years ago. As much as he wanted to do...things. There was a line he couldn't cross, not yet, not until L'lhynd accepted him. He just wished he would hurry it up. But in a lot of ways, L'lhynd was innocent that way. It was...refreshing

So Zuberi stood, watching as L'lhynd grabbed his trunk and slammed it against the floor, obviously working out some sort of frustration with him. He grunted at L'lhynd and finally walked into the room, closing the door only partly. "I wasn't sure I was going. I don't like being a part from you."

L'lhynd hadn't been paying attention to the entry way, though it was fairly safe to bet he wouldn't have said anything anyways. It wasn't the first time Zuberi had done something of that nature... just standing or sitting and watching him. L'lhynd didn't like it, but there was nothing he could do about it. He decided to pay Zu no mind, he'd answer if he felt like it and even better if he missed L'lhynd's slight implication. He stalked across the room and grabbed several items before moving back to the trunk, folding them carefully.

As he moved to go across Zu's room again the Oban finally moved into the room, causing L'lhynd to have to side step the taller boy. His gaze flicked to the door, left open. He wasn't sure what about that annoyed him and made him worry at the same time, but it did.

He paused with Zu's clothing, his back to him. He had to be careful about how he replied to that, knowing the wrong words could very well make Zuberi hange his mind at the last minute and keep him here. L'lhynd couldn't chance that, he needed the Oban to leave so that he could leave.

"Well we will just... have to have a sleepover when you return, like when I first came here. If you'd like." His words were slow, as though he were testing the conversational waters. When he'd first came to Zuberi's household the Oban often demanded that L'lhynd sleep right in his room and would pitch a fit until his parents consented. At some point though they must have drawn the line because L'lhynd had stopped being invited to Zu's room... which was a relief, honestly.

He avoided looking at Zuberi after he said this though, because for some reason it felt slightly embarrassing at such an age. He went to move by the Oban again, wishing he would just sit down or something.

Zuberi felt excitement well through him at L'lhynd's words. "A sleep over?" he said, somewhat hesitantly. He wasn't sure if L'lhynd was really serious. It had been one of the things he missed most, but one of the few times his parents had won out on insisting L'lhynd not sleep in his room. Eventually, Zuberi had realized what had made his parents fight him so hard on the subject. They had been afraid of what power L'lhynd might gain over him if by chance their relationship had grown physical. He supposed they had a right to be worried. Even now there was a lot he would do for L'lhynd they he suspected that the Matorian was unaware of that. Zuberi had tried to do things for L'lhynd on his own, but he often got it wrong or L'lhynd would take his actions the wrong way. It didn't mean that Zuberi had given up, but he learned to hold back. Then again with L'lhynd he learned holding back was something he had to do otherwise...well things would be different and Zuberi was sure that difference wouldn't be a good one.

Still the sleepover. "Is that what you want?" Zuberi asked, obviously disbelief in his voice, but also a tinge of hope. The though of having L'lhynd close, maybe, possibly even being to hold him, sent a coil of excitement through his body. His gaze was intent on him, watching as he slid pass him to grab something to put in his trunk. Zuberi was barely paying attention. His gaze fixed on him. "Before you had agreed with my parents that you shouldn't sleep in my room anymore."

The way he said it was with a hint of a sulk, thouh Zuberi himself probably hadn't noticed it. He remember the feeling of betrayal he felt when L'lhynd had actually agreed, part of the reason his parents managed to win that argument.

Zuberi questioned L'lhynd's offer, perhaps disbelieving. He was right to be, of course. L'lhynd had faith in his lying skills though, it only ever took a few wisely chosen words to get Zuberi on his side. And if things went sour and L'lhynd had to stick to his word? L'lhynd's gaze cut back behind his shoulder, eyeing the Oban's feet for a fleeting second before he looked back to what he was doing. "A sleepover." L'lhynd repeated, his voice light. His tone was not overly cheerful, but it wasn't mocking or angry either. He busied himself with picking out a few more things to pack as he tried to push down the off nerves twisting up his stomach. It wouldn't come to him sleeping in Zuberi's room, he had to remind himself. No reason to picture it or worry about what would happen if it did happen. Because it wouldn't happen.

L'lhynd turned just as Zuberi popped the question. He was amazed Zuberi still had the ability to believe L'lhynd wanted anything other than freedom... but who knew, maybe Zu wasn't even aware of that want. L'lhynd deliberately bit down on his lip, dropping his gaze as packed. He certainly was more gentle and careful with the rich and beautiful garments than he'd ever be with the Oban. "Yes, I want to... I only ever agreed with your parents because that is my place, you know I can't refuse them. But if it was a secret..." L'lhynd really wasn't sure what tone he was going for, but he'd heard it many times when some of the kitchen girls were trying to get things they wanted from some of the higher up servants without those servants realizing they were being tricked.

He had been starring down at the trunk as he did this, for some reason his own mimicry of the kitchen girls had him feeling very embarrassed. He didn't think he liked this tactic very much. But after a moment he twisted from his crouch to look up at Zuberi, his eyes wide and again he bit down on his lip. His fingers were digging into the wood of the trunk, though he hoped Zu wouldn't notice. He had to keep up this act, as long as it worked.

Zuberi turned over L'lhynd explanation in his head. He felt like there was something he was missing, but all his mind could really focus on was the way L'lhynd said it. His voice was almost flirtatious and filled with hidden meaning. It sent heat throughout Zuberi's body and he took a step forward then stopped, clenching his hands at his side, resisting the temptation to cross the room and grab L'lhynd, puling him to him. There was no possible way he was taking it correctly. Hadn't he just thought how innocent L'lhynd was? He almost had cooled his head when L'lhynd turned around.

It was like being hit in the gut. He was looking at him in that coy way girls did when they were trying to flirt with him. Eyes wide, biting his lips, and looking up at Zuberi like he wanted to be kissed. Before his brain could catch up with his body, Zuberi was across the room, standing over L'lhynd. He reached out, ready to pull him to him, but at the last moment, his brain started to work again. Instead he placed his hand's on the boy's shoulders and stood there, looking at him as he tried to gain control of his baser instincts.

"I will hold you to that, L'lhynd," he said. "When I come back we will have a sleep over. Agreed?"

L'lhynd was definitely starting to feel sick to his stomach. That particular brand of 'sick to your stomach' where you immediately knew you'd done something wrong and it didn't sit well with you, even if it looked like you were going to get away with it. He couldn't care less that he was tricking Zuberi into believing a blatant lie.... what had him sick to his stomach, he thought, was the nature of the lie. The... way he was mimicking that what he'd seen but didn't fully understand... though he thought maybe he understood why those kitchen girls did and said similar things now.

As soon as Zuberi was striding across the room L'lhynd knew it had been a mistake, all of it! He felt his stomach drop and his heart simultaneously climb into his throat, making it very hard to breath. Or maybe encouraging tears from his eyes, but he absolutely would rather chop his hand off than start crying right now just because he was afraid of what was about to happen. The matorian had shifted to his feet fluidly as Zuberi reached him, ducking his head because he was sure the look he'd had on it that worked Zuberi up so much was no longer present.

His muscles tensed when he felt Zu's hands on his shoulders and he had to work very hard not to shove the Oban away. He was terrified Zuberi would be able to hear his heart with how hard it was pounding, terrified he'd be caught in his lie. He swallowed, afraid to look up because he was afraid of what Zuberi would do right now, though he couldn't really imagine too many circumstances. Was there actually anything to be afraid of? His gaze flickered to one of Zu's hands before he tried to push away some of the anxiety nestled right in the pit of his stomach. He tried to hide the deep breath he took as his eyes met Zuberi's but doubted he'd hid it even a little bit. The oban would probably just take it as nerves, L'lhynd had to believe.

He slowly forced a smile onto his lips, though it wasn't as though he could fake the lack of the smile reaching his eyes so instead he let it be brief. "You have my word, Zu." But what did a matorian's word count for in the life of an Oban? Nothing, that's what. So L'lhynd didn't feel bad at all that his word meant little and less. L'lhynd lifted a hand and placed it on Zuberi's arm but it only made the anxiety in his stomach grow bigger. He didn't remove his hand though, couldn't remove it yet. "I should finish packing, Zuberi." His words were quiet and he didn't wait for Zuberi's okay he just half-ducked away from the Oban's hands, turning back to the suitcase. Still, if felt weird with Zuberi standing behind him.

Zuberi took in the way L'lhynd reacted and how he ducked away from him. He looked thoughtful. He had spent too much time watching L'lhynd, taking in his reactions, not to recognize what he had seen. Fear. L'lhynd had been afraid. The thing was Zuberi wasn't sure why he had been afraid or at least not completely. That was the thing about L'lhynd. Sometimes his actions didn't match and it confused Zuberi.

He was almost completely sure L'lhynd had been flirting with him and he got teh feeling thir sleepover was going to be more than just two young adults hanging out. Yet, he seemed afraid of the idea even though it was him that suggested it. Was he nervous or did he regret the offer. He turned it over in his ind, but he wasn't sure. So instead he decided the best answer was to ask.

"Have you changed your mind?" As much as he hated the thought of being so close to what he wanted, he wasn't going to force him to keep a promise he didn't want.
