RP Log for Shimmering Sea and Dude Food
In thread, 5/17/15
Dude Food: *sitting outside Cloud 9 handing out flyers to passer-bys* Make Sunday date night and get a free drink! <3
Shimmering Sea: -hums as she levitates through town, no idea where she was but it was a fun adventure regardless. When she came close enough to hear Dude Food's advertisement she smiled curiously, wondering what the foal was up to- What're you talking about?
Dude Food: *lazily waves a flyer at her* It's a promotion. If you come in on Sunday with a friend, you get one free drink. *Ma had told him to make himself useful and now he was, even if it just meant he was sitting here with a stack of flyers he'd just printed*
Shimmer: -blinks at the concept of a free drink, wondering why a business would do something like that- Doesn't that make them lose money, if they give things to customers for free? -was an artist herself, but she liked to give away her shell creations rather than sell them in the first place-
Dude Food: *grins* Weeelll, not really. The price of the free drink is negligible if the customers then also order food on top because yanno it's a date thing or more drinks. If they like the place, and they will, they'll become regulars and spend even more money. *actually did all his research which is a pretty big deal for such a lazy kid*
Shimmer: -eyes widen at the information, and she nods her head vigorously- Oooh! That makes a lot of sense! Whoever owns this place must be really smart, and you too! I'd take you up on that flyer, but I don't have anyone to bring with me... -would want to take advantage of the good deal, even if she might technically 'buy' the free drink later, but she pouted a little when she recalled she didn't really have any friends to invite-
Dude Food: *gives a little frown* You sure? You must have heaps of friends... or people who want to be friends. You're super pretty. *scratches under his chin thoughtfully* Well, um, if you come around on Sunday, I'll be your plus one, if you want. Or we can find you a friend. It shouldn't be hard.
Shimmer: -shrugs a shoulder- Well, I know several phony, but I don't think we're really friends yet. Friends spend time together, you know? I'm by myself most of the time. -isn't dejected about it, but is honest. At his compliment and offer, she giggled- Aww, that's nice of you. What's your name? I'm Shimmering Sea, but you can call me Shimmer since it's easier on the tongue. I wouldn't mind going with you, but are you sure you don't want to hang out with someone your own age? -doesn't want to make him feel weird by hanging out with someone older-
Dude Food: I guess this would be a good way to turn the people you kinda know into real friends. *has an open packet of chips next to him and he chops on a couple of them for a moment before answering* I don't think adults are that much different from kids, we can still hang out... and the name is Dude Food.
Shimmer: -nods, finding both of his points to be valuable. This was why she loved talking to anyphony; it always felt like she was learning something new- The only problem I have with my acquaintances is that I remember their faces, but not their names. That makes it a bit tough to track them down, but I'll be sure to remember yours, I promise! -grins, determined to make a solid friendship- Is there any time I need to be back here on Sunday, then? That way, even if I don't find another phony to bring with me, I can still meet you, or we can have a group get together. -can't help but twirl a bit in excitement-
Dude Food: And I promise to remember yours! *pleased grin* Okay, meet me here at five and we'll have dinner. I can't do any later because I've got homework to do. I hope you find someone extra though, it's always nice to meet new people.
Shimmer: I'll make sure to get here early, so you have plenty of time to do homework after. -hums with agreement- Yeah, me too! If you want, you can bring a friend along, too. The more the merrier, as they say. -glances at a streetlight with a clock on it, gasping with surprise when she realized the time- Ooh! I completely forgot I needed to get back home before the tide comes in! I'm gonna miss a lot of shells! -she turned and started to levitate away before she realized she hadn't even said goodbye properly- I've got to go Dude Food, but I'll see you tomorrow, okay? I'm really glad I got to meet you! -gives him an affectionate pat on the head before she floated away to gather shells for her next big project-
This rp takes place the next day.

Shimmer was humming happily as she levitated through town, fortunately having remembered her way back through the streets toward Cloud 9 so that she could meet up with Dude Food again. She hadn't been able to track down any of the other phony she'd met before him to bring with her, so she'd come on her own to enjoy the bar's drink special for the Sunday evening. The sun had only just started to go down but the street lamps and neon signs were already on, which brought a smile to the merphony's face. The city was so pretty; she really liked spending time here.
When she spotted the familiar pegasus waiting out front of the bar she waved eagerly as she floated over to him. "Hello again! This place looks so amazing with all the lights on. I can't wait to go inside!" It would be her first time to go into a bar before so she had no idea what it was like, but her excitement was quite obvious for something that others would deem a simple experience.

Dude Food had been sitting out the front for fifteen minutes, idly passing time by talking to customers as they walked through the door. Quite a few of them were holding the flyers he’d been handing out and he couldn’t help but feel proud that his plan had worked, even if his ma had been less than impressed to start with. They didn’t need to resort to such tactic to generate clientele, she’d told him and he’d only shrugged. Well, she’d asked for him to help out and he had, in his own way. The colt grinned at the Merphony when she arrived, getting up with a little ‘oomph’ of a sore butt. "I’m glad you came! I’ve got a table ready and everything. Come on it and welcome to Cloud 9!" He trundled inside, to the dark-walled brightly lit space, filled with happy customers and eager staff. "This way."

"Alright!" She giggles as she follows the foal inside, impressed by the large flat screen tvs lining the walls and above the bar, and oh-- Did this place have a second floor?! Everything about Cloud 9 told her that it really had been carefully planned before it had opened, which was really impressive for a newcomer like herself. When Dude Food led her over to the table he'd reserved for them she adjusted her levitation device so that she was under normal gravity for the moment, using her forelegs to pull herself up into the chair and then curling her tail so that it was at her side.
Shimmer looked at the drink menu first, trying to figure out what exactly she wanted, so she struck up conversation while doing so. "Hm, now that I think about it, you never told me how you know this place so well. Do you volunteer part time to help the staff here?" This was the second time after all that he'd been right out front of Cloud 9, which didn't seem like a typical hangout for phony his age.

It took a little flap of his wings for Dude Food to settle comfortably in his chair. Then he pulled his napkin over and unfolded it into his lap, doing his best to have some sort of nice manners for his new friend. Though once she saw him eat his burger, she’d know better. "Ah, yeah, well-" "Good evening," the waitress interrupted, standing next to their table and giving Shimmer a sidelong look of distrust. "Welcome to Cloud 9." Pink Lemonade hadn’t expected her son’s ‘date’ to be an adult and was going to be keeping a close eye on the table. "Can I get you both a drink?" "Thanks mum. Um, I’ll have one of Uncle FP’s new lime sherbert mocktails… please."

Shimmer looked up from the menu and smiled when the waitress came over, but her smile faded slightly when she received some kind of look... What was that, exactly? The merphony tilted her head, a little curious if she had done something wrong, but when Dude Food referred to the stranger as his mother she gasped, quickly introducing herself just in case she had been rude. "My name is Shimmering Sea. Nice to meet you, ma'am! I'll have a Ginger-Spiced Cider, non-alcoholic, please!"
Wow, his mom was gorgeousssss. No wonder he seemed so comfortable here; his family worked in, and might even own this place! If it weren't for self control she would have clapped her hooves out of excitement at this new information. She forced herself to look back down at the menu, trying to consider what appetizer might sound good to go with their drinks. Everything looked tasty though so she knew it might take a while to make up her mind.
"Do you want an appetizer, Dude Food? We can share, or I'll get you whatever you want. Dinner's on me, anyway."Ruriska Sorry for the slight delay, but here you are, my dear! Went out of town with my mom for a few days. <3

"Not a problem, I’ll be back with your drinks in a moment," Pink Lemonade arched an eyebrow at her son and then sashayed away through the sea of tables, picking up used plates and glasses without breaking stride. "Don’t be silly," Dude Food grinned as he played with the edge of his menu. There was no point looking at it, he already knew it back to front. "You’re my guest. You just have to promise to come back and eat again here another day. Mum said its okay." Granted she hadn’t known his guest was an adult but then that detail had hardly seemed relevant. "Dad makes the best thrice-cooked chips. Make sure you try them. Tonight I really want my special hotdog."

"Thank you," she called after Pink Lemonade, before turning back to her friend and listening to him. When he told her not to worry about paying she smiled, but couldn't argue. What he'd said had been true; she'd have to just come back and buy him a meal some other time. "Thrice-cooked chips, huh? Then let's have those for our appetizer. They sound tasty!"
While the merphony could understand how chips were cooked, she had no idea that anyone would for any reason want to cook them three times. They sounded good though, since she imaged they would be super crunchy! She tried to make up her mind on what to eat, and after a moment, she settled on one item. "Ooh, the shrimp and scallion salad sounds yummy. I think I'm gonna get that. And tell me, what's special about that hot dog? Is it named after you?"Ruriska Sorry for the long break, Ruri! Was prepping for short to go on her month long study abroad trip to Japan. She left today, so now I can get to my MLP tags.

"We can have the chips and some onion rings as well." Dude Food was clearly getting excited by the prospect of food and was looking around at the other tables, checking out what they’d been ordering. “Nah,” he replied with a grin. "It’s just my special hotdog because it has all the things I like in it and dad makes it up special for me. Double cheese, onions, mayonnaise, tomato sauce, bacon, sour cream, sautéed mushrooms and pickle carrots. It’s really good."
Pink Lemonade returned promptly with their beverages. "Your drinks," she said as she placed them down neatly. "Are you ready to order your meals?"
"Yeah, mum, thanks. Chips and onion rings to share. I’ll have my hotdog." Then he looked over at Shimmer with his lopsided grin and waited for her to order her main.
