Ruth clutched her javelin to herself with far too much tension. She was upset about a great lot of things and when she was upset, she tended to shrink away from the world, gathering in on herself and shutting everyone out. But that option wasn't available to her.
Not here in the Lake. Not with everyone who'd survived still here.
She kept her grumbling to silently mouthing, hands gripping tightly on More or Less instinctively for... comfort? Perhaps. Her weapon seemed to be the only one whose presence she didn't feel any immediate disdain for. But to be fair, her weapon wasn't really alive. Just named.
In her wanderings, the blonde decided she ought to reflect on the events and her own follies throughout. It figured that the best location was already taken. Schooling her features into a neutral calm, she asked "May I sit down?" and gestured to the empty spot by the knight.poke mattix Ruth sounds like James Earl Jones in this AU XD i.e. Mufasa

Jason had been quietly resting by himself, his own mind troubled with the recent events that had left him there. Still trying to get over his own guilt, he sat upon a log and watched the small sprites float on top the waters edge. They really were a sight to behind. Then a deep voice requested to sit next to him. Turning around, he was surprised to see it belonged to a young woman. "O-oh, of course." the knight quickly scooted across to give her some room. He then watched her, frowning at her silent mouthing. "E-excuse me miss. B-but are you alright?"

Ruth blinked. Not immediately (or at all) apparent as her bangs obscured her eyes. So to make up for this, she tilted her head in confusion. "Yes, I am alright," she answered as she sat on her heels and laid her javelin across her lap. "Why? Do you detect something is amiss about me?"
The blonde was certain she bore no injury, at least nothing more serious than scrapes, cuts, and bruises. But at this point, who didn't have their fair share of minor wounds?

"Y-you just seemed to be mumbling to yourself." Jason replied, glancing down at her tightened grip on her weapon. "I t-thought you might be upset at something. O-or nervous about the upcoming battle." He himself bore many cuts and bruises, not to mention a very sore arm thanks to someone trying to knock some sense into him. Though he seemed more concerned about her condition than his own.

"Oh. That." Ruth couldn't keep the wry grin off her face, "I suppose it's simply my way of handling the difficulties God has decided to throw in my path." She paused, pressing a hand to her chest, "I wasn't being a bother, was I?" She'd rested enough that feigning consideration came easily.
The other knight's concern was misplaced in Ruth's opinion. She neither needed nor wanted other people to worry about her condition. It made things needlessly complicated.

"Ah, I see" Jason nodded, before he shook his head vigorously. "No, no, not at all! P-please, if it makes you feel any better, then feel free to continue with your musings! I was merely worried, thats all." Though he had many things to worry about himself, he couldn't help but be concerned for others welfare, and if possible he would always lend a helping hand. "God has placed many stones in our path, hasn't he?" He said out loud, hoping to start a conversation with the girl. Maybe that would help her to feel better?

Ruth nodded and set about staring blankly at the water's surface, watching the people who chose to swim and those who simply mingled among themselves. But the knight beside her posed a question, rhetorical she assumed, and yet she couldn't help but laugh.
It was a mirthless one, devoid of any good humor and possessed a distince undertone of bitterness, "A veritable avalanche, really. Almost as if He enjoys watching our suffering and draws strength from it."

Though she may have laughed at his words, it help no warmth or happiness, a cynical response to his question. "I don't think it he would find enjoyment in such a thing..." Though it wasn't like he knew for sure, he was no religious priest. "P-perhaps it is just a test of some sort?" Scratching his head, he sighed. "I can not say I would know what his motives are, but at the very least I know it wont do to question something we have no answer for."
