As it turned out, he'd heard that there was still another piece of horsemen artifact left out there to collect. While normally Jack wouldn't bother at this point, the peace Lancelot's arrival had granted them had started to strangely chafe at him; he had restless energy now that he had been healed by the lake's waters, and the more he sat there and contemplated his fate, the less inclined he was to think at all. The quest was an excuse to get out and feel productive until they learned who would be leading them in the final task of sealing Camelot from darkness.
(And then what, he kept thinking on, then what were they to do--)
Securing a horse, he tied a food bag to its saddle and began to lead it away to the worn path winding towards the forest.

Chel had been following for a good distance. It had been easy; his horse was loud and she was not. At first it had been in paranoia (why was he leaving the camp alone?), but it secondarily became interest. Mostly rooted in paranoia.
When he finally stopped for a moment to rest his horse Chel revealed herself with a flare of grandiose dramatics. She came from behind a tree, silent before saying, "It's a little suspicious t'sneak off right after two knights were killed, y'know?"

The bowstring had been drawn back, an arrow pointed down at her head--and then he relaxed and sighed shortly through his nose. "I decided to finish one last quest while we still had the time," Jack said. "One I'm sure you already understand the curiosity about." He gestured at her winged cape.

Chel had put her hands up weakly at the bow. She didn't want a fight and there was no reason to be hostile. She had a lazy sense about her; she couldn't even be bothered to defend herself.
"Mm. Think I better accompany you. T'make sure yer not off murderin' people an' all." She laughed because everything was a joke up to this point and the only way she could keep it together was to make sure it was a joke.
She pulled on the cape a bit and said, "Give yer horse a slap on the a** to go home. I got you."

Is there even anyone left to murder? he nearly asked. Instead, Jack raised his brows in surprise at the offer. "You've been uncharacteristically generous as of late," he said, still a little dubious. "Why help me? I thought you'd be taking this time to get you and your cousin out of here."

"'Cause a knight's gotta serve selflessly and always do the right thing," she said sarcastically while stepping closer to him. Her saunter happened in almost a threatening, conniving way.
It might have looked like she was up to no good. Which she wasn't. "You know you ain't gettin' a choice, right?"

"You didn't give a s**t before, why now?"
Her load was going to be suspicious and, unfortunately, weighty. Why trust someone like Chel to literally carry him in the air?

Chel gave a half grin and vaulted forward on the front part of her foot, arms outstretched to catch Jack in a vice grip. It wasn't the usual kind of leap, considering it wasn't only performed with her body.
The magic of the cape kicked in and after the intial momentum kicked out, Chel pushed past the treeline and the horizon opened up before them.

"Fuuu--!"
In this world, Jack wasn't afraid of heights--but that didn't mean he took kindly to being bodily snatched from the ground either. Rather than struggle out of her grasp, he clung to Chel for dear life as his hair whipped at his face.
"God damn you," he hissed, honestly still paranoid she wanted to drop him. They must have looked comical given their difference in heights.

Chel let out a laugh. She never really got tired of seeing people caught off their guard; from Riley's terrified cling to Estel's wonderment, Chel just really liked ******** with people.
Which was probably why she loosened her grip on Jack for just a moment, faking him out as though she was going to drop him. Then she started laughing again. "Oh what, the wee baby Beanstalk is gonna cry?"
She did have to adjust herself for his weight though, and the extraneous effort was apparent. "I got ya, stop cursin'."

One of his hands immediately had grabbed onto a chunk of her hair and part of her cloak. Joking or not, Jak was ready to drag her down with him if she threatened to let him fall.
(It seemed that not even in this universe was he capable of not pulling Chel's hair.)
With every fiber of his aura continuing the <******** you saga for him, he finally took a moment to see the forest they were flying over. The view was incredible, if at the same time making him feel strangely small.
"I didn't need your help," he groused nonetheless.

Chel squawked like a bird with her hair grabbed, but quickly slapped the hand away and moved it down under her arm. If they were going to do this awkward flying gig they would best do it together.
She did have some sympathy in her and tightened her grip in reassurance. "But it help, don't it?"
There was a pause of silence between them and then Chel's lips parted. "Be honest. Why you keep givin' me looks?" Chel couldn't piece it together.

His mouth was a thin line of defiance despite the fact that he was grateful for the assistance. No more inane obstacles to worry about--well, save for Chel's landing skills, maybe.
"What looks?" he asked, still watching the land pass below them.

While they soared Chel occasionally adjusted her grip, moving him to a place that was comfortable for her arms. "I invented avoiding questions, so don't try an' play dumb."

"Fine." He turns his head towards her, tossing his hair over the other shoulder so it wouldn't flap in either of their faces. "Why did you offer yourself up as sacrifice? I thought your plan was to get the hell out."
