Name: Dexurn
Stage: Prentice
Race: Water
Gender: Boy

3 Base Traits:
~Naïve
~Caring
~Shy

Personality: Growing up a slave provided little chance for experience outside that life. He knows how to do what he’s told, no matter what the task. The master’s false adoration made it difficult for Dex to distinguish whom he could trust. Thus, he tends to trust everyone until they give him reason not to; which ties in with his caring trait. Even after the master's true face was shown, he finds it eeasier on himself to trust than doubt.

Despite his slavery, within him remains a tender heart. Without parents to guide him, the others slaves took on the role of guardian when they were able to, though even they could do so much for him with their limited abilities. The teachings of one woman in particular taught him to keep hope in his heart, and that he should help others as much as he could. Her name was Shikori, but she insisted that Dex call her Auntie in the slave living quarters. When she passed away, Dex found himself feeling truly alone for the first time.

Being the center of attention made Dex rather wary of it. As time passed, and he began to understand why he was put in front of the guests, he began to despise the task. He hides away as much as he can to avoid being put front and center again.

Out in the world, his traits all rather clash together, unsure of how to truly handle himself. While he wants to put his trust in everyone, he can't help being wary of them as well. He'll keep a distance at first, he quickly turns back to blind trust as long as the stranger he meets doesn't yell at him or hit him or otherwise hurt him. Really. He'll worry about a stranger until the other person smiles at him; then he's fine.

He's also quite brave. ..Or oblivious. Depends on how it’s viewed. As his circumstances changed as a slave, he was required to do some dangerous tasks. He's used to climbing a steep cliff free-handed, or walking through a herd of janarim, or climbing down a hole to retrieve whatever is needed.

Description: This Dark teal hair with long bangs, which he tends to use to hide behind. Hair transitions to black with a small braid by his ear. Dark gold eyes. A long-healed scar on his cheek.
Clothing: An over-sized red and orange vest tied with a rope; taken from his former master after being freed. Dark brown shorts with tattered hems just below his knees. No shoes. The collar with a bell on it.
Accessories: He has nothing save for the clothes he wears.

History:
Dex was born to parents enslaved by an Oba master. He was sold young; bought by another master who treated the toddler as a pet. With his little bell collar always on, he was usually the night's entertainment when guests came over, considered adorable despite being "beneath" them. As he got older and supposedly lost the ‘cute’ factor, he took on more household duties. The bell collar remained though, signifying his position as the pet.

When the war turned against the Oba clans' favor, the house that owned Dex went into hiding. Old as she was, Shikori did not survive the desert trek to the hidden house. Now that there was no longer a need for him to entertain guests, his tasks took on the more typical slave tones; demanding, demeaning, and often dangerous.

It wasn't until recently that the house was found, and Dex, now prentice age, was freed along with the other slaves. When reality sank in, he became afraid. His life had been harsh, but it was the only thing he'd ever known. Before leaving the house, he took a vest of his former master's for protection and for comfort. The same for the bell around his neck. Growing up with the strap and jingling ornament, he felt exposed when he tried to take it off, and put it right back on. The sound had a soothing quality as he ventured into the unknown. He traveled with the fellow slaves back to Matori, not knowing where else to go, and is trying to find his place in a suddenly huge world...

Welcome welcome <3 Congrats on your first quest. Just a couple of questions to start with :]

Who was the one woman in particular who taught him to keep hope? How important was she to his life?

Were there any particular slaves that Dexurn felt closest to, like parents?

Now that he's been freed, why does he continue to wear the collar with a bell on it?

How did he get the clothes from his former master? Did he steal them before leaving?
