Kari blanched as she listened to Sir Galahad's words. She knew that there'd been something going due to the chaos in the Treasure Room, but everyone was being suspected?
Stopping for a moment, Kari had to admit that it made sense that they'd be suspecting everyone since they couldn't know who was telling the truth and who was lying. And Sir Galahad stated that everyone would get a proper investigation, so Kari had nothing to fear considering she still held loyalty to the Great Knights and the Great King. Well, if the Great King was still alive, at least. She was still a little unsettled over the conversation between Sir Lancelot and Sir Mordred, but she'd decided to cross that bridge when she came to it. She couldn't give up hope.
And so, Kari followed the group of knights being led towards the dungeon. Kari rubbed her hands on her arms in a feeble attempt to ward off the chill that permeated the stone walls as she descended the staircase. At the bottom of the stairs, a knight was waiting, holding out his hands while asking for Kari's weapon. Kari reluctantly handed over her Spetum and was led to a cell. It was the cell closest to the stairs only containing an old chair. She absently noticed one torch near the stairs is missing as her knight escort walked away. Now she could only wait.
---
Kari was beginning to get worried. It felt like she'd been waiting for hours, yet no one had come to question her. She'd only seen the steady procession of other knights being led or carried to cells. No one else had left their cells once they were put in them, though some were fiddling with the objects in their respective cells. Perhaps they were doing so to stave off boredom. Kari was content to sit and wait. Some knights had passed around food int he meantime, but that had been a while ago. Just as she felt like she'd go mad from the wait, the sound of clanking caught her attention. Galahad had returned. Kari didn't like the look on his face.
Her stomach dropped at his next words.
They were all being accused of corruption. Retained... a proper Sendoff? They were being left to die? But they'd never been questioned once! No one had! This wasn't a noble sacrifice, they were being abandoned! Was this their aim all along, to lure them down to the dungeon with pretty lies just to leave them to rot? Did Sir Lancelot and Sir Mordred know about this, or was this solely Sir Galahad's plan? Was he in league with Morgana, and claiming they were corrupted simply to get them out of the way, or were they all corrupted? This was unacceptable. She had to escape to find the truth.
Sir Galahad's presence had already long vacated the dungeon. While Kari's mind had been racing with confusion, more knights within the dungeon began to manipulate the objects within their own cells with increased fervor. Voices caught her ear. Numerous people were exclaiming outrage over something. Sir Galahad had been acting strange? They were going to be executed?!
Jumping up, Kari decided that she couldn't simply wait any longer. If they were going to kill her, she wasn't going to go quietly. Not anymore. Suddenly, a tinny metal clink sounded near her. Someone in her cell ,a white knight, had found a key. As she watched, the unlit torch was lit and the key was placed into a nearly invisible keyhole, and the cells opened. A rumbling sounded as a passage previously hidden opened itself to them. Looking around, Kari lamented that her weapon was nowhere to be found. She would have to leave without it and find another.
Kari would find out the truth, even if if meant going against traitorous Great Knights. She swore it as she followed her fellow knights out of their cells and through the corridor.
