 Cirrus was exhausted. It wasn’t just tiredness; it was a weariness that had settled deep down into his bones. He had barely slept in weeks, just quick snatches here and there, quickly jolting back to harsh reality. Even taking his normal pale complexion into account, he was now just an ashen shadow of himself. His self-imposed vigil had stretched him to breaking point. To make matters worse, Cirrus had yet to witness any wrong-doing. In his heart of hearts, he knew La Llorona was evil. He knew because he had died and he had vowed to not let another young foal suffer the same fate. In the beginning he’d worn charms, he’d laid down salt, he’d recited latin verses meant to keep demons at bay. Now he just sat there, next to whatever puddle of water she’d chosen to hide in that day. His head drooping down against his chest, Cirrus tried not to nod off. Not one child. Not one had been taken by the witch and he didn’t know if that was because he was there or because she simply didn’t want to. In fact, as far as he could tell, she’d done nothing that could be even vaguely be considered evil since he’d started following her around. Other than being creepy, he could not fault her. It was more terrifying that if she'd been drowning children left and right.  She'd seen him from the corner of her eye, here and there, watching her. At first she'd found it flattering that he was keeping his promise to keep an eye on her. Then it just became tiresome. She didn't know what he was trying to accomplish other than make himself sick. La Llorona did have to laugh that at least he looked as bored as she'd been the last couple of months. There had been a surprising lack of unsupervised children coming to her home to irritate her lately. She realized that she did have the ability to lure them to her if she really wanted to ... but she was lazy. And kids were so loud these days. Still, she felt antsy. Like there was a distinct lack of excitement or purpose in her life. She eyed the pegasus from the water of her fountain. He kept nodding off and occasionally jumping back to the waking world. That's when a terrible idea formed for the dark mare. Grinning ever so slightly she waited for him to start dozing off again. Once it looked like his lids were getting heavy La Llorona rose from the water. A soft light shone from her horn and coated her body in a soft, white, light. She looked like an angel and she knew it. She knew her Little Ghost would recognize it too, if what he said was true and she'd killed him once. "Dear sweet child," she called out softly. Singing. "Child, come and play with me? I'm so lonely." Ruriska <333 I hope this is okay!

At first he thought he was still sleeping, caught in a familiar nightmare. He’d seen this vision before, repeated too many times to count and he automatically tried to wake up, only to realize he was already there. Cirrus gave a long, low whine of panic as he stared up at the Llorona in all her glory. "No, I don’t-no, stop, please." He lifted a hoof to ward her off, tracing a clumsy pattern of protection in the air. LOLLI qAq Perfect. <3 I keep spelling her name wrong and it's annoying me. xD

La Llorona let out a laugh, and though the urge to laugh was real it was her fake laugh that came from her. A tinkling, song-like, laugh. She stepped towards him and smiled. "Why do you ward against me, child? I just want to play." His panic was so real, and it gave her pause- Maybe what he said was true and she had tried to kill him once when he was a child. Thinking that somehow more than one had escaped her clutches should have enraged her, but it made him fascinating. Not fascinating enough to make her stop tormenting him, though. She took another slow step towards him and the shine from her horn became brighter. "Oh, my Little Ghost. Do I scare you so much?"

Cirrus couldn’t move. He wanted to. Desperately wanted to fly or run or do anything to get him far, far away. Instead his limbs had locked, turned to stone and left him powerless to fight back. He could only sit there and watch her close in. You’ve finally had enough. The thought drifted through his mind and was followed quickly by, and so have I. "Yes," he replied and closed his eyes, shutting at the light and simply waiting for his end. It didn’t really matter. He was tired and nobody would miss him. It would be easier this way.

It was so simple. She knew she could reach out and drag him back to the water if she wanted to, but she didn't want to. As far as he'd told her he'd already been there. She'd already done that. Her glow faded and the mare that stood directly before him was herself again. A dark tangle of kelp, wet hide, and seaglass. She reached forward and placed her face directly in front of his. This wasn't what she wanted. Llorona had started to take an almost childish delight in his heroic vigilance. She liked the attention. "Oh, no. My poor Little Ghost. I'm not going to kill you." She booped his nose with her own then started to circle around him. "I thought we were enjoying our little game." Okay, she knew he hadn't ... but she was a psychopath. What did he want from her? Ruriska oh good lord these two are a hot mess.

The world behind his eyelids went dark and he waited. It would be apropos for this to be his end. She had taken him once and now she would finish the job. Except his waiting was for nothing and he was almost disappointed. Her nose booped against his and he opened his eyes, terror receding and tired confusion taking over. When he circled around he forced himself to look her in the eyes and ask, "are you evil?"

She answered with a shrug at first. It hadn't really occurred to her to question what her particular brand of morality should be called. "Some have said I am. I guess it's true." La Llorona wasn't sure what to say. She thought about it more as she paced around him. Sometimes she'd step a little to close and brush against him or run her tail along his side. Almost like a tick more than anything done with purpose. "It's true that I kill children, but I don't go seeking them. An opportunist, perhaps?"

Cirrus looked like a Phony defeated. His shoulders slumped, wings hanging at his side. At the slightest touch, a shiver would run through his whole body. "I see," he thought about that for a moment. It didn’t make this situation any better but at least it was possible to keep her from taking children. As long as she didn’t get the chance, the kids would be safe. Whether he had the energy to keep following her around like a ghost was another matter entirely. Or maybe he could find another way… "Could we… make a deal?"

Her footsteps paused when he mentioned a deal. She continued her movements just enough to be directly in front of him. Dead dark ocean eyes looked into dead storm eyes. Normally she'd be smirking. She'd won, after all, but it had come so easily. Well, easily for her. Instead her face was calm and serious. "What did you have in mind?"

“You enjoy this-“ Tormenting him. “-and I want to keep you away from children. Can I offer myself to you? Live with me, do whatever you like, smother me in my sleep. It doesn’t matter. I’ll belong to you, as long as you promise not to take any children, even if the opportunity arises.” Cirrus didn’t think she would accept but at least he’d tried. If she did agree, it would be a relief. His own well-being was clearly a secondary consideration andshe doubted there was much she could do him that was worse than what he’d been through so far.

La Llorona snorted out a quick laugh. This was definitely an interesting solution that he proposed. "Why Little Ghost," she placed a hoof over her heart dramatically, "are you asking me to marry you?" It came out equal parts fake-girly and sarcastic. She wasn't sure that she was going to say no, though. Ruriska AAAHHHAHAHA. Oh. Oh goodness I love you forever.

He imagined the marriage and watching her walk down the isle, a wicked grin stretched across her face. He imagined his miserable existence stretching forward further than he could see. Then he thought of Footnote and Jolly Rancher and of other children who would never suffer the same fate. Cirrus blinked, steadied himself with three deep breaths and said, "If that's what it takes, then yes."

She blinked in surprise. Her eyes widened a bit more than they were used to and her jaw nearly dropped. Nearly, but she had more composure than that. Her mouth formed a smirk, then grew into a smile, and then a toothy grin. Suddenly La Llorona was laughing. Her poor Little Ghost was so determined to keep her from hurting another child ever again he was willing to marry her. As she laughed she weighed her options. Could she stop the killing? Yes. Of course she could. Did she want to? Through her uncontrolled tears of mirth she looked at Cirrus. It was almost like an out-of-body experience- Her body was doubled over with laughter, and the rest of her was watching from above. He looked so terrified but also in more control then, she suspected, he'd ever been of anything in his life leading up to this. It was then she realized she wanted this. It was for obviously different reasons than he did, but she did want it. She wanted to take that control away from him. She wanted him to be hers. Forever. With no escape but the death she might eventually grant him. The peals of laughter stopped as suddenly as they'd began. "Deal."

His stomach dropped away and he swallowed around a dry tongue. It felt like he was going to have an anxiety attack, dragging his breath through his nose in short bursts and his chest constricting painfully. "Wonderful, thank you," Cirrus managed to say, body held rigid so that he wouldn't run away screaming. "You're welcome to move in at any time." He was proud of how he calm he remained on the outside, even as he promised himself to eternal hell.
