Gretchen had never been down in the underwater observation pod--and pod was certainly the right word for the room she found herself in. Round, monitors and equipment tucked into one dim corner, the rest open with various chairs scattered about. The walls, if they could be called that, one continuous, floor to ceiling sheet of thick plastic. For a moment, upon arrival, Gretchrn was stunned still and silent by the sight of all the blue water and the absolute vastness that stretched out for hundreds of miles around them. She must have made a noise. Some soft, inarticulate squeak of a thing as the dark shadow of something large rolled in the distance. The intake of a small gasp. Maybe even the quiet sound of the paper bag hitting her thigh as her hands dropped to her thigh. Sonething to draw the attention of the lone figure occupying the room. The one she had yet to notice. Not because he wasn't worth noticing--he was. He always was.--but because she'd never in her life seen anything quite like this. The aquariums she'd visited growing up couldn't even come close. Weak, if pretty imitations of something so much larger.

Isaac did not much mind underwater duty. Out of all of them, it was his favorite - not because it was usually a one-man job, but because of the utter silence in the room. There was peace here and it was welcomed with open arms. He could ignore so much when he was on underwater duty. He could ignore twitter (aside from his DM's), he could ignore festering thoughts about Leslie, he could ignore any and everything that made him feel anything but calm. The water, the white noise and hum of the computers, the view -- he could pretend, just for a little while, that he was in a safe bubble of vast nothingness, and he was the only person there who existed in the entire world. He could also think about how much he was looking forward to those peanut butter sandwiches. Isaac noticed Gretchen before she made a noise. Part of him felt incredibly attuned to her, and it wasn't all about attraction, and it wasn't all about sex. She was a good friend and a good person, sweet and gentle, and Isaac could appreciate someone like that. He didn't make a sound as he watched her draw it all in, though he silently made his way towards her. Once close enough, Isaac stood behind her and draped an arm over one of her shoulders; his forearm rested against her collarbone, and his he drew her back so that he could give her a quick peck against her cheek. "It is my favorite place, I think," Isaac rumbled against her ear, "and it is no hardship to take up extra shifts. What do you think of it?"

It was a mark of just how beautiful the view was that Gretchen didn't notice Isaac approaching until he was right beside her. She blinked, tearing her eyes away from the stretch of thick plastic to smile up at him as an arm looped around her shoulders and pulled her back against a broad, muscular chest. She went easily, leaning back against him as he brushed her cheek with a light kiss. The deep, rumbling voice beside her ear sent a spread of goosebumps down her arms, and lips twitched, head tilting just so. "I think it's beautiful." The word really didn't do the view justice, or the peaceful serenity that seemed to collect so easily around them. It was quiet, and the dimness seemed to be broken only by the reflection of failing light through the water around them. It cast everything in a bluish, greenish tint that gave it all an unreal sort of appearance. "I'm a little sad I've been missin' out on all this until now." If there were more shifts to pick up, maybe she should volunteer as well. Though she didn't want to take them away from Isaac. That hardly seemed fair. Her free hand lifted to rest lightly on the arm that draped around her, thumb moving in idle strokes across warm skin. Maybe she could just visit while he was on duty here.

"You do not need to miss out on it anymore, then." There was laughter in his voice, and he pulled away just enough to peer at the brown paper bag Gretchen carried. It was at that very moment that Isaac's stomach decided to lodge a complaint; the growling almost seemed to echo throughout the windowed room. "Especially if you are always bringing sandwiches with you," he added quietly, sheepishly.

She liked the sound of that. As he drew back she turned to smile up at him, sliding her free hand along his hip to offer a one armed hug as his stomach spoke up, announcing just how hungry he was. It made her grin, the tips of some fingers poking playfully into his side before she was holding up the bag for him. "I think that can be easily arranged." The bag was given a little shake. "Five sandwiches, as requested. Two have banana slices on them. You'll love'em."

Isaac grabbed Gretchen's hand and drew her towards the nearest window, taking a seat on the floor before tugging her down into his lap. He immediately made sure she was situated before rummaging around in the paper bag like a ravenous grizzly bear. "Oh, Gretchen, bananas, yes, I will share them with you," he crammed half a sandwich into his mouth before offering her the second half. The sounds he made were near orgasmic, almost vulgar. It was very obvious he approved of peanut butter-banana sandwiches.

She went willingly, laughing as he pulled her across the room and down into his lap. A little squirming, a little shifting about, and she got herself comfortable with her back against his chest, legs dropped over his own and ankle crossed over false ankle. The giggling continued as he crammed half a sandwich, damn near whole, into his mouth, moaning in delight as he offered her the other half. She took it with a soft thanks, taking a bite out of the corner that was quite a bit more reserved, but there was an echoing sound off appreciation as the combined flavors of peanut butter and banana hit her tongue. So good! While they ate she watched the window, the fish swimming past it and the shadows of larger things further out. All the while her free hand resting on his leg, head pillowed back against his chest. Comfortable and content.

He didn't waste any time finishing two more sandwiches in quick succession, and once he was done he gave a quietly satisfied groan. They'd hit the spot, and he would have to remember to pack his own the next time he had any kind of portal duty. Isaac did not want to have to rely on Gretchen all of the time - although he had to admit he was incredibly pleased by the fact that she was there, because this was nice. Very nice, and only made more pleasant by the soft giggles that erupted from her. "You should not laugh at a hungry man," he warned her sagely, resting his chin on her shoulder. "It is not very nice, you know."

Gretchen was only just finishing up her own half a sandwich by the time Isaac had made two other whole ones disappear. It was impressive, but then watching young men eat usually was. They had the ability to shovel down entire meals in a matter of seconds, before anyone else had so much as finished lifting their forks. When his head found her shoulder she turned enough to brush his cheek with a kiss before the warning made her pause, lips pursed and eyes narrowed playfully. "Is that so?" With a hum she bumped her cheek against his, enjoying the soft scratch of his beard against her cheek before she licked a touch a peanut butter from the tip of a finger. Turning, she shifted her legs across one thigh so she could look up at him easier. "Still hungry, Buttercup? We've got two more."

Isaac let out a low belch to the side, away from Gretchen's face. "I am stuffed," he assured her, grinning at her narrowed eyes and the bump to his cheek. It was so easy to forget about other things, about his troubles (as minor as they may be)... it was easy to simply exist, enjoy the moment, just be when he was around Gretchen. He idly walked his fingers down her prosthetic. It did not bother him, not even in the slightest - in fact, it was as much a part of her as her other leg as far as he was concerned. But touching it made him wonder... "Are you ticklish, Gretchen?"

"Classy," she chuckled under her breath, grinning as she gave her head a small shake. She didn't really seem all that bothered though, just amused. Gretchen couldn't feel the tips of his fingers as he walked them down the length of her fake leg, but the movement of his hand pulled her attention down to it. It was always a relief, finding people that weren't weirded out by the fact that she was missing a leg. Folks stared, they acted as if the missing leg was taboo, like they shouldn't touch, shouldn't ask, shouldn't mention it. It bothered Gretchen, for quite a while, but eventually you just have to get over things like that. Now it wasn't a big deal, but she still liked when people treated her the same as everyone else. Isaac had never once shied away from her leg. He'd found it fascinating from the very start, and that was one of the reasons she liked him so much. That question though... Gretchen stilled, looking up at him again and trying not to smile. "Maybe." It wasn't a no, which meant it was pretty much a yes.

"She says mmmmmaybe," Isaac teased, walking his fingers back up her other leg. He wasn't bothered by the prosthetic, but there was something nice about touching her skin; she was soft and warm and maybe-probably ticklish. "I am a gentleman," he continued, pulling his hand away once he reached her knee, "and I will not find out where you are ticklish." His lips twitched. "Yet. Because you brought sandwiches to eat," he added with a soft huff of laughter.

Just the idea that he might try tickling her was enough to make that soft skin all the more sensitive. Even that innocent brush of fingers long her leg had her pressing her lips together, hand tightening on his leg as she waited fro him to strike. She was all but squirming in his lap until his hand withdrew, and he was declaring himself a gentlemen. That twitch of lips though. She watched him carefully, wearing a small, wary smile. Waiting. And there it was, the inevitable yet. It had her huffing herself, preemptively retaliating with a poke of slender fingers into the sides of his ribs. "That's right," she'd purr. "I'm the bringing of sandwiches." Because if that was some kind of shield against tickles, she was going to wield it!

"I am not so ticklish," he boasted softly, moving to rest his hand on the small of Gretchen's back. The soft jab to his ribs had him laughing just as much as the squirming did, and he held up his free hand in defeat. "I promise, for today, that I will not tickle you on purpose," Isaac grinned hugely, leaning down to press a kiss to her cheek. On purpose.

Well that just wasn't fair. Gretchen pouted up at him, letting her hands fall to rest lightly back to her lap. The temporary ceasefire on tickling helped, but only so much. The kiss helped more. She hummed, leaning into the kiss as the pout melted away, replaced by a smile. "Alright." With the fear of torture no longer hanging over her head the Death relaxed again, though instead of settling as she had been she shifted in his lap until she was facing him, legs looped loosely around his hips. The soft touch if fingertips against his cheeks to draw him down to her, a gentle coaxing until she could brush her lips against his, delicate at first, before tipping her head for something deeper.
