[Backdated to early April 2015]
It had been a rough few days, camping in the mountains and seeking out some small enclave of Knights hidden in what felt like an endless forest. This was the mission Laurelite had sent them on, with the strange collar-device that turned Airi from a shadow-bleeding wolf into a very wolfish German Shepard and suppressed his aura - to meet with a Negaverse branch in West Virigina and help them with a problem they had.
That problem, as it turned out, was a very stubborn group of Pages and Squires, hiding up in the mountains and causing problems. Apparently the officers they had weren't competent enough to root them out, and so a Captain and a General with a lot more experience dealing with magic bullshit had been called in.
And now, Natron was very much reminded why he hated camping, because he was sore and sweaty and, he was fairly certain, covered in bug bites.
"I'm not sure sending us on this mission wasn't some kind of punishment. Don't forget, you're here forever, and we can send you out into the mountains on a whim." He complained, not that it would make much difference.

"Have I ever told you, how much I utterly, completely, whole-heartedly hate you? Fangite hissed, finally pulling down his face mask. "The best part? I think I can safely say Airi ******** hates you and he's your youma!" The added snark earned Fangite a very irate huffing noise from the large 'dog' in there party. Fangite had to resist the urge to gesture wildly at Airi and go 'See?!' "Why, in all things holy or chaotic or what ever did you think it was a good idea to take on this mission. Have you seen our weapons? He are not tailored for scaling the sheer cliff side of a ******** mountain! And where in ******** hell did we even dredge up these idiots. Are they newly minted or something because that would explain a metric ******** ton of what the ******** has gone wrong here. Are they just listening to whatever stupid page has an idea?" He groused, his voice level rising. "Let's go hide in the ******** mountains. No one will ******** find us in the ******** mountains. I ******** hope they get lost and walk off a ravine."
He took incredible solace from how miserable Natron looked. Good. Served him right. ******** mountains... what was he thinking.
"You might wanna rethink the leather there Love. Get's heavy after a while." For what it was worth, he was almost in the same boat as Natron. He was sore and sweaty (though his uniform was leagues lighter than it looked) and and had a significant lack of bug bites (Thank God). "The only camping I ever want to do from now on involves the hammock in the spare room.
"Next time, I vote we take a least one other person with us who knows the god damn landscape."

Natron briefly looked actually hurt, but he shoved it down. Both of them were frustrated and tired, and it was leaking out everywhere. "I didn't know we were gonna be hiking until you know, we were. Actually hiking," he said, and he sounded defeated. "It's good exercise?" He offered, which was a vain consolation.
"They could've at least lent us a guide," he agreed. "They've gotta know these mountains better than we do. Dunno how they're so bad at this." He said.
He let out a sigh of frustration, and shed his uniform jacket, discarding it for the short-sleeved shirt underneath, and then pulled off the belts across his chest. "Better," he said, and then he beckoned Airi over, scratching behind the wolf's neck. "Ready to run ahead?" He asked.
"As much as ever," Airi said, and she shook himself. "I thought I had a scent last night, I'll see if I can catch it again." He trotted off, into the woods and through the underbrush.
"Maybe he'll finally catch something today. They can't suppress smell trails with a cat, right?"

"I'm not even dignifying that with a response. I know first hand you've seen me climbing around the house like an idiot." Fangite took the shredded articles of clothing and shove them haphazardly into the sack that he'd been carrying. He watched tiredly as Airi ran off ahead, before sighing. Brushing off his hood, he moved to stand just behind Natron. Dropping head on the brunette's shoulder he closed his eyes. "...I'm just tired..." He muttered, in way of apology.
"I don't think so... But if it rains again it will be hard to pick anything up." The Captain murmured, a sigh escaping him again. "...If I fall asleep like this, and Airi wakes me up. I love you, but I'm dusting him." His head turned as he moved to hide his face. "Why do we have the collar on him again? It seems kind of pointless when our aura's are a blazing beacon to where we are... We should have grabbed a cat too."
"I wonder how much work it would be to just monitor the mountains. Have a rotating guard, patrols.. They would have noticed something wouldn't they? Or they could have caused an "earth quake". That would flush them out." He paused, suddenly picking his head up. "I'm going to be so pissed if they are all hiding in their wonders and we're up here for nothing."

Natron sighed and closed his eyes, leaning back against Fangite. "Maybe getting some sleep will do you well, then. I'll stand guard and wait for Airi to come back?" He suggested, reaching up to gently stroke Fangite's hair. "I'll wake you up when Airi comes back. No sloppy wolf tongue wakeups, I promise."
"Airi's aura being suppressed means that he can get closer than we can - he can scout out where they're hiding, and then we follow him in. Probably in civilian form. We attack them, we kill or capture who we can, we go back to Destiny City and take like thirty showers and never go camping again." It seemed simple enough to him, though the "finding" part was taking a long time.
He considered, for a moment. "They can't stay out there forever. There was..." He stopped. He'd been close to saying that when he'd first been to Lyonesse, in the future, it had been dead and empty - but reminding Fangite of that seemed like a bad idea when he was already on edge. "Wonders don't start out useful. And they had to call for help for what should be a simple issue - hell, it shouldn't be an issue apparently. I'm not thinking they're gonna do much for patrols."

A blue clad arm wrapped it self around Natron's waist, securing their positions together. "We'd lose ground if I did that. Though I suppose with our fantastically crappy weather, we've lost enough anyway.." Maybe a break wouldn't be so bad. What was the worst that could happen. "Good cause if I have to get dog spit off my glasses one more time, you're buying replacements." Without another word, Fangite moved off, trying to find a semi comfortable spot before just giving up and settling. The Captain beckoned the shorter man over, settling against him when close enough. "Waking me up will be hell you realize."
"We could have tried trailing them as civilians to begin with." He pointed out. "If we posed as two lost hikers and their dog, they'd help us out." A bird like youma, or anything that flew would have been helpful here. They could have covered more ground that way perhaps. "Fifty showers, Airi's going to need it. I don't care if he could go to the rift to recover, he's going to whine that he smells like a forest."
"...You can say it." He muttered, knowing where Natron was going. "I didn't use mine, for obvious reasons. One of the many things they found pointless to tell me. Let alone explain." The purple haired man shrugged listlessly. "...Personally, I would have waited until I saw signs of them creeping out of the mountains, and then jumped them. That or make sure they got chased far enough in that there was no chance they would come out."
"If he takes too long... We should probably just try and find him. We could lose them in the time it takes for him to get back to us." Fangite murmured, closing his eyes.

"We're not going anywhere without a report anyway," Natron said, and he settled comfortably against Fangite, fingers running through his lover's hair.
"We cover more ground this way, move faster, can go for longer." The physical advantages that came from being an officer couldn't be overstated, in Natron's opinion. It was far easier to do things when you had powered strength and speed. And, he supposed, the general increase in his physical fitness that had come with being an officer. As a Lieutenant, he'd huffed and puffed and had almost zero endurance - as a General, that was totally different.
Given permission, even though he still prickled, he did speak,a bit, of his Wonder. "When I first found it, it was dead and desolate and empty. Ruined buildings, no plants, nothing." The image was vivid in his mind, from a time that had...yet to come. Or probably would never come.
But rather than continue, he just stroked Fangite's hair, in an effort to lull him to sleep.
It was a few hours later - a few hours of much-needed rest, he suspected, for the Captain - when the sounds of a body crashing excitedly through the bush alerted him to Airi's return. It was rare that his youma acted like a proper dog, but he did then, running forward and butting his head excitedly into the General's chest.
"I found them," he said. "Not far from here, a proper camp. They thought I was a lost dog, I had to wait to get away - but they're here."
Natron felt his heart pick up speed. Gently, he shook Fangite's shoulders, in an effort to get him to wake up. Finally, they were going to be done with this.

Fangite grumbled and cursed under his breathe as Natron talked. "Ruddy branch needs a ******** makeover. It's like its run by a bunch of ******** children." No. Wait, scratch that. Children operated better then these fools did, if just barely. He continued to grumble and curse till he was lulled to sleep.
--
At some point, either he had moved, or Natron had shifted him, Fangite had come to rest his head in the Generals lap. He was rather content with himself, to just lay there and relax for the first time in days. That was, however, until a rather large etheral creature decided it needed to shove its large, dirt ridden paws in the Captain's face in an effort to shove it's skull into Natron's chest.
"I'm up." He hissed, shoving Airi off himself with a irritated snarl. "What happened to keeping an eye out so he didn't wake me?" Noir Songbird AIRI THE POINT WAS TO GET HIM NOT ANGRY. WHY YOU MAKE HIM ANGRY

Alright, so their eventual sleeping arrangement really wasn't ideal for the goal of not getting Fangite stepped on by his returning youma, but Natron was still glad he'd at least gotten his boyfriend to get some sleep.
"Are you okay?" He asked guiltily - he had sort of failed in keeping Airi off. "He surprised me," the General said, as f that somehow excused it.
Airi had the decency to look embarrassed as he extracted himself from Natron's lap and off Fangite's face. "Apologies, Captain," the youma said, but his tail thumping eagerly against the ground betrayed that he was still thoroughly excited by his discovery. "If you are both prepared to follow? We can finish this little adventure and return home. I would rather like to return home." He missed the Rift, and its comforts. [Mistress Morbid] LARGE DOGS DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

"I have muddy paw prints on my face. Airi is heavy." Fangite reminded the other man. "Surprised? You're suppose to be keeping an eye out." He snorted as he stood and stretched. The Captain yawned as he eyed the youma's tail that thumped solidly against the dirt.
It amused Fangite just how much he acted like a dog... and not some strange creature. "I think I have to agree with him on this one. I wanna go home. I want a bed." Fangite whined. "And the aforementioned showers. That goes for you too fuzz face. I don't care if the house smells like wet youma. You're getting them."

Natron looked thoroughly embarrassed, getting up once Fangite was and popping his stiff joints. Sitting around for hours wasn't good for him, but with the end of the hunt near, he was absolutely ready to go.
The actual trek into the woods was long, and winding, but the pace was quick. On the way, Airi informed them of what he had seen - a small camp, four or five people, and a Guardian Cat, as good an explanation as any for how they'd managed to avoid detection for so long.
Finally, Airi stopped. "Power down," the youma said, "we're close, and you'll alert them. Best to sneak up and then attack."
Natron let go of his powered form, and a very sweaty, very unhappy-looking Gabriel in hiking gear was left behind. "I can teleport in the middle of their camp, once we have visual, and start killing." Once, it would have been hard to be so casual about it. Not anymore. "Watch for people escaping, and keep an eye out for the cat. We'll want to bring her back."

Fangite blinked at his partner. "...You didn't sit the whole time did you? You could have moved me to lay down..." Welp, now he was feeling a bit bad. "If I was out as hard as I think I was... I wouldn't have noticed it at all." However at the mention of the Guardian Cat, the Captain looked like he was about to ring the neck of the nearest thing he could get his hands on. After a just barely controlled screaming fit over how he hated magical cats, Fangite was left grumbling profanities to himself.
If one thought Fangite looked unhappy, Desmond himself, was in a league of his own. However, he stopped to run a hand through Gabriel's bangs, the rest of it pulled up into a really messy ponytail.
"Airi, if you don't get the damn cat before I do. You're getting a poodle cut. I will find a way to physically drug youma's and do it myself if I have to. Get. That. Damn. Cat." Needless to say, that was an order, even if the creature didn't belong to him.

Gabriel gave Des a warm smile, and reached up to grab his hand and squeeze it briefly. He'd learned his lesson about shows of affection in front of the enemy, but they weren't in front of the enemy, not now.
"We'll be home soon. Just...have to do this." He let go of Des's hand, and gestured for Airi to lead them off. He had to laugh at his boyfriend's threat - the image of Airi with a poodle cut was just too hilarious to pass. "Fangite's order stands," he said, just for specificity. "Get the cat. Do not kill it, Guardian Cats are incredibly useful. We'll take care of the humans."
Once they were within sight of the camp, he powered back up, and slid the collar off Airi so that he was returned to his normal, hellhoud form.
Then, the General teleported into the midst of the camp - a gathering of six Pages of various planets and one Squire of Venus, not exactly something he was afraid of.
"Well, you've all had your little run in the woods, but it's time to either surrender or die, now."
The Squire bolted up, and brandished his weapon - a walking stick. "To you and what army?" He asked, and he sounded surprisingly bold. Natron grinned.
"I don't need an army." He said. "I've got an assassin." And then he was off, kusarigama blade flashing bright in the late evening light.[Mistress Morbid] YES FANG HE LITERALLY THINKS YOU > ENTIRE ARMY

"...You realize my order was to kill it right. You better hope Airi finds it before I do otherwise it's toast. I'll skin it if I see it. What would we even do with it. It's Order aligned." He grumbled, his brow twitching slightly in agitation. Then he paused as a thought struck him. "...Do you think Guardian Cats are corruptable?" Huh.. Maybe capturing the cat would prove useful. "Alright then... Don't kill it. But beat it with in an inch of it's life Airi... Can I give him that order? Is that a thing I can do?"
When the General teleported in and started his little speech, Fangite couldn't help but roll his eyes as he followed suit. "Sorry, he never was one for getting straight to the point.." He murmured as he grabbed a fist full of the squire's uniform. "I on the other hand..."

"I'll capture the cat," Airi said, "but I'll make sure it's tossed about a bit first," and then the wolf melted into the darkness among the trees with a feral, animal snarl.
Natron left the Squire for Fangite to deal with, and found himself staring at a frighteningly familiar scene - an Earth Page interposed himself in front of a Uranus Page, brandishing his weapon (a rose, how sad) and looking grimly determined.
"Surrender, and you'll both live," Natron offered. They reminded him too much of Lyonesse and Fang for him not to at least make the offer.
"Death first!" The Earth Page declared, and Natron sighed.
"Fine, then," he said, and he ducked around and under the Page's guard, blade going straight for his throat. A flash of metal, a spurt of red, and the Earth Page was staggering back, into the Uranus Page's arms.
"Riley!" It was the Page's last words, because Natron's hand sank into his chest, and he pulled out the small glittering starseed within.
They both dropped with a sad, sickening thud.
