Chel's cellmates were hurriedly trying to solve whatever riddles and mysteries the dungeons held. Chel was watching with idle interest, but that was all she was doing; watching. She didn't want to do the work when she had other people to do it for her, and although she was listening actively, she wasn't moving. Merely biding her time for the right moment to break free, being attentive.

Lazy might be another way to put it, but an attentive kind of lazy.

She noticed Jack in the cell across the way. She still had one of the biscuits in her pocket, and she took it out and began throwing pieces at him.

It was something to do.

He wasn't particularly worried that they wouldn't get out in time. The cogs had worked particularly well in the tower's puzzle; this wasn't any different. And when they finally escaped, then....

Then what? Betray his oath and his honor? Did either of those honestly matter now? Their own leaders thought they were infected without bothering to cobble together a means to tell the difference between patient and healthy. Burn them all. Once out, they'd all be fugitives, destined for death if caught again.

The sidhe were suddenly not starting to seem so bad anymore. Tricks and illusions and lies, yes, but at least he knew what he was dealing with there. The Great Knights were having a nasty habit of surprising him.

His reverie was broken as something struck him. Multiple somethings. Scowling, he looked across the way and barked, "What the ********?" And then, realizing it was Chel, made a face. "Didn't escape either I see."

"Got past a few guards and then took Galahad's lance to the face," she whistled, "Not in the good way, neither."

Lecherous grin against the bars. "What's the face for?"

"For the waste of food, obviously." Grabbing a few pieces, he flung them back at her. "Here I thought you of all people would secure an escape," Jack said. "They didn't confiscate all that treasure you stole, did they?"

"I would never steal," she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. "That sort of thing is just wrong."

She took the pieces flung at her and ate one of them. A waste of food was right, and Chel wasn't exactly worried about manners or germs all things considered. "Any thoughts on breakin' out?" It was pretty clear by her demeanor that Chel had none.

She was very much a bystander in this situation, a follower even.

He shook his head, realized it was a little too dark to see, and replied, "Nothing in here except dungeon walls, so I couldn't help them anyway." No reason to reveal the butterfly just yet.

Scooting closer, he wrapped a hand around one of the bars and started nibbling with a piece of biscuit himself. "I am starting to think your idea of running away to a new place is looking better and better," Jack said. "Where, though, hell if I know."

"There's a nice window," Chel commented sarcastically, nodding her head astutely. "Least my death cage got a view."

She snorted and wrapped her knees close to her chest. "I been told I got good tuition." The word was intuition but that was besides the point. "I found Chris, by the way." She scratched her nose. "So you don't gotta look for him anymore or nothin'. Dunno where they put him down here though." Something hopeful entered her voice when she said, "Maybe he got away."

"Oh? Well, that's something." There was a hint of genuine relief for her in those words. "Does he remember you yet? Because, ah...coincidentally, I think I do."

After a pause, he added, "Maybe you should check the window. People have been finding clues everywhere."

"Yeah he knows me." She kept it short, simple, because she realized she was getting somewhat talkative. It was hard not to be overt with people, to guard her secrets.

Chel did share the same relief as Jack though. Her paranoia still existed in triplicate, but at least now she had a fragment of truth she could cling to. That is, provided the truth wasn't a skewed image fed to her by the knights to placate her.

(That was her paranoia talking again).

Conversational redirection. "You remembered someone? Who?"

At least she had someone she could count on; that was more than most of them could say.

"I remembered I used to be engaged once," Jack told her, watching her carefully. "When I was younger, at least. The girl's name was also Chel, and she looked a lot like you. We were hiding from our parents in the memory."

"Weird," Chel said, raising an eyebrow. She remembered nothing of being engaged, nothing of Jack and nothing of hiding from parents.

As far as she was concerned, his Chel was someone else. "Gotta be more than one of me in the world," she said jokingly. "Younger though- that mean it was arranged? Or were you just stupid in love." There's a particular bite to her tone. Mocking.

"Arranged," he replied as a matter of factly. "That was what annoyed her most—that she had no choice in her own freedom." More biscuit pieces were nibbled, stale and with a tang of dirt. "I'm positive it was you. Pale hair, just as pale skin, the same blue eyes, the same stubborn attitude," he added wryly. "She didn't like being called Chelsea either."

Chel let out a laugh. If Jack wanted it to bother her it clearly didn't. It had to actually matter for it to bother her.

"Aight, let's ask one of the guards to hitch us up," she said, leaning back against the cell wall and smiling obnoxiously. "The ******** you want me to do man? Ride off into the sunset on yer horse?" She leaned forward, cheek pressing into the bars, "Wait a sec, are you just tryin' t'hit on me?" She snorted incredulously. "Don't blame ya but c'mon."

His expression dulled. "I'm just saying I remember you," he said with a verbal shrug. "I'm not asking anything of anyone, except maybe help with not dying. Teamwork and s**t."

"Yeah well I don't remember you," Chel said crossly, slightly irked that Jack wasn't rising to her teases. It wasn't as fun to play with a toy that didn't resist.

She tucked some of her hair behind her ears and pulled down her hood to see him better. "No one can help you with not dyin' but you," she said firmly.
