Thoughts where still reeling in Matthias’s head as he collapsed on the ground with his back against stonewall, he closed his eyes leaving nothing more than a worn out appearance. Nothing was making sense anymore; everything in his mind was replaying what had happened to Percival and Morgan. Queen Morgana, no, he had no idea that was Morgan’s true self and even before he could move he had watched one of the great knights he had admired slaughter before his eyes. It was if he was nothing more than a mere puppet, a toy she could rip in half. Doubt and fear filled his mind as he started to drift off into sleep.

He stood there, his armor shining as the sun danced along it’s reflection, faces he didn’t recognize all young in appearance looked up at him.  One younger red headed saluted him, “Great Knight Matthias I have you report Sir,” he replied handing him a piece of parchment. Looking at it Matthias turned back to the other knight-apprentices as the fear in his gut started to grow consuming his soul. How would he be able to protect all of them? He couldn’t do this, no he would fail he knew he would fail, he had already done so there was nothing he was going to able to do for these men. No there weren’t men they were almost as young to be children, they were all going to die in his care.

He was going to fail; he knew it, his heart beating louder and louder in his chest. The fear they would hear it, they would know they would judge. It felt like a tidal wave rolling over, his armor weighing him down.

Protect.

He woke up his arms around his neck as if he was trying to find some sort of last minute breath from drowning, realizing he was back he was still nothing more than a knight he gave out a deep regretful sigh.
