Quote: ✦ Pearl Diving ✦ Solo Or Group of 2 Adventure May be of any Path or Race.
Below is a situation, you must write a 500 word rp incorporating it! The Prompt:
Roll a d100: 1-50: x 5 Small Pearls 51-71: x5 Large Erlkin Scales 72-97: x10 Small Erlkin Scales 98-100: A water logged boot is all you find! (Boots of the Water Walker is what it is!)
Recently you've heard of divers who dove to the sea floor to gather up pearls, food, and other interesting things from the sea floor. Curious as to how these non-Merkora or Peisio Dovaa are managing to dive so deep for so long, you go to the village sea port where the rumors are coming from. (They are on all continents, you choose!) You approach and ask a person who's preparing a bag and looking like they are waiting for the ferry to come in. As you talk to them, they tell you about the diving, how some are using some Bahikal Saliva(which has magical properties and allows one to breath underwater), others are borrowing hte powers of Ayrala's ad taking a bubble of air down with them, and yet a few others dive with out magic. Apparently this man(or woman if you want!) has a apprentice.. who is sick at home. He asks if you wish to join him, he dives without magic, but his apprentice uses the Saliva.
As the ferry comes in and you join him (cause you know, that's the whole point of this adventure!) he shares his techniques and shows you how to put on the flippers and Saliva. He also tells you what to look for: the large shells of clams encrusted with barnacles have the best pearls!
The dive down and what happens is up to you! Maybe you spot the dark shadowy shape of a Svatrin slowly cruising below you, maybe you see Merkora, or any of the sea creatures! You dive deep, the Saliva (if you need it) making the trip more comfortable as you can breathe.. though the pressure of all that water gives you a head ache! Roll to see what you bring back up with you!

"You could stand to look a touch more... excited."
Naarhiji fidgeted, shifting restlessly from his perch at Kaylinth's back, nestled atop a hastar that ambled at the truly remarkable speed of hardly moving at all. He gave a terse shake of his head, pressing his cheek to the larger man's back before grumbling, "Forgive me if the unknown doesn't illicit much thrill... You still haven't told me where we're going."
Kaylinth shrugged, and although Naar couldn't see his face from where he sat, he distinctly heard barely-leashed laughter in his tone. "Aye. I did offer to fly. We'd be there already. But you-"
"No," Naar snapped sharply. His fingers bunched, crumpling the fabric at his companion's waist and clinging firmly because he had all-too-easy a time envisioning a million different ways that would end. "No," he hummed again, less abruptly. "This is fine. This is... nice. In it's own way."
If not incredibly unusual. Seeing Kaylinth at Naarhiji's abode was one thing, but it was another thing entirely to see him- Well, anywhere else, really. Let alone wherever they were going. For three days. Needless to say, the younger boy had his reservations. He'd complained to Syth about the whole thing, but she only cooed and smiled and told him what a marvelous opportunity it was for him to get out. He'd hardly left Tukyere at all since he moved there, and even then, it was barely beyond just outside the city outskirts.
He could've argued that he had no need or even desire to stray farther than that, but far be it from him to try and dampen a woman's excitement. It still seemed less mortifying then than it did now.
Naarhiji untucked his nose from the cloth at Kay's back as shadows loomed around. When he peered up and beyond his immediate vicinity, he saw huts. Made of clay, rocks, dried grasses. The younger boy tipped his head curiously. Kay seemed... out of place in such an area. Or at least more out of place than Naar had expected him to. The place seemed dirty and savage and- Not the he was one to judge anyplace for cleanliness, but that was irrelevant. "Do you... live here?"
"I live a great many places." The hastar continued on through the village. A few passerby waved at them and shouted greetings. They knew Kay's name... "But yes, sometimes I live here."
"This isn't very far out of Tukyere."
"I wouldn't be able to see you if I stayed far away, hm?"
Heat swam up Naar's face, diverging off to lick up the sides of his ears. "No," he agreed. "I suppose not." It was almost, sort of, kind of like... a date, wasn't it? The young Oblivionite hummed softly, pressing his forehead to the nook between Kaylinth's shoulder-blades and tightening his arms about his waist. "Then we're here?"
Kay chortled and leaned back, pressing into Naar's hold. "Almost. Have patience. And enjoy the ride. There are plenty of new things to enjoy. So enjoy them. And don't be so anxious. It's unbecoming on you."

Malta watched as her brother spoke with one of the Magescian villagers, shifting from paw to paw anxiously. Traders from the Settlement were not unheard of in this town, and Maike and his colleagues were well known and well treated for the goods they bought and sold. They treated Malta well, too, by association, but with Sorai having flown off to find a place for the three of them to rest, Malta felt very exposed, even with her brother there. She knew she would feel even more exposed in Tukyere, but such were the hassles she went through to see her friend, Naarhiji. She wondered if it was nerves or impatience that had her scenting him on the breeze, even though they were still very far from Tukyere. She did like to spend time with Naar – his life was bizzare, but he had never hurt her, or threatened her. As long as the scary Magescians he lived with left them alone, then she could enjoy his company in peace and relax, both from the rigors of being a well-respected crafter and her terror at the powerful twolegs. She was safe with him, and they got out and did such interesting things. She hoped that her arrival would not be too much of a surprise. It was so hard to send messages ahead, especially since her Giogimar had eaten her previous flying beast and refused to take messages himself. She sniffed the breeze idly again, wondering at the scent in the air. Odd that it was so like Naarhiji... almost as if he had a... Twin. She stared, stunned, as a Magescian on a hastar passed by, bearing someone that looked very strongly like her friend. “Naarhiji?!” she exclaimed, rearing on her hind legs for a better look...

There was not a single person they passed; Oblivionite, hybrid, or otherwise, that seemed actively annoyed to see him. Naar peeked only barely out from his position behind Kay, letting his attention wander over the passerby. Merchants greeted him by name. Even the terrifyingly gruff-sounding and scarred-faced fishermen (whom Naar immediately receded out of view from) grunted out amicable-sounding hellos.
So when his own name pierced through the air like an arrow, both men turned toward the sound in confusion. "Malta!" Naar squeaked when he spotted the Ysali female sitting to the side of the path. He scrambled for her immediately, a familiar thing in a place he knew nothing about and was suspicious of to begin with.
"Gods, boy, take your time," Kaylinth prompted as he wrapped a hand around Naarhiji's arm, doing his best to steady the smaller lad as he gracelessly dismounted from the hastar. Only once he was safely grounded did Kay find the time to follow. And it was with some confusion (and amusement and wariness) that he watched the smaller Oblivionite lad splay his arms around the foreign khehora's neck.
With preliminary greeting hug out of the way, Naar stepped back. "It's good to see you. Specially in a place like this. I was kind of nervous coming here by myself but- Oh, no, wait-" Embarrassed heat rose to his cheeks,as he hadn't exactly came alone, despite not knowing a great plethora of things about his company. Naar swallowed and back-peddled, groping absently for Kaylinth's hand until the man slipped his fingers within Naar's grasp and allowed himself to be tugged forward. "This is Kaylinth. I'm- Um- Working... right now, so..." He cast his gaze sheepishly back at him, then down.
"'Working,' hm? Don't make it sound like too much of a chore."
"No, I-"
"It's alright." He raised a hand to silence him before patting Naar's head, stringing fingers through his hair and leaving the smaller boy with only muted complaints. "It is nice to meet a friend of Naarhiji's. Malta. Particularly one as interesting as you."

Malta purred happily at the contact, lowering herself carefully back to all fours. It was Naarhiji! That was such a pleasant surprise! She looked over Kaylinth cautiously, managing a smile. “Oh! I see!” It was still difficult to figure out just what Naarhiji's 'job' was, but he did things for others and he was paid, so she supposed that was the definition of a job. She'd learned a lot since their last meeting about the ways of love – she had her mate to thank for that – but what Naarhiji did seemed different somehow. Ah well, that didn't matter. Naarhiji was her friend, and that was the point. And he had someone with him who didn't seem too dangerous. “Hello Kaylinth.” she said, bowing her large, horned head politely, “It's nice to meet you too.” She didn't think she was that interesting, though... Maike noticed the interaction and excused himself from the conversation, trotting over in amusement. “Whats this, Malta. You, talking to Magescians?” he snickered, “I never thought I'd see the day.” he scrutinized the Oblivionites with his bright, cheerful dragonic gaze. “So.” he said conversationally, “Which one of you is this Naarhiji I've heard so much about?” Malta flushed. “Th-this is my elder brother, Maike.” she introduced, “We're, um... here trading.” And, in her case, on a stopover before finding Naar. Who was here. She should really tell him that, she knew, but with the other Oblivionite here... would that interfere with Naarhiji's work?

Naarhiji grumbled softly as he combed fingers back through his hair, straightening the strands Kaylinth had worked so hard to dishevel. He was still uncertain about what to expect from the man and really had no idea what sort of protocol to follow when they were actually out-and-about in the world, instead of confined to the limited space of his bedroom. He was allowed to talk to Malta, right? She was his friend. A very welcome friend amidst this turbulence. So even if he shouldn't- Naar jutted out his bottom lip. Kay couldn't tell him not to. He'd ask Malta to- to eat him, maybe, if he tried.
But a quick glance over his shoulder showed little ill-intent from his older companion. Kaylinth smiled lightly back at the Ysali female, dipping his head in return to her greeting. With a soft hum, Naar threaded his fingers through Kay's. While he enjoyed Malta's company, he really didn't know enough about her brother to feel all-too comfortable. He greeted the male with a quiet, "That's me. And we're here, um- We're- Well, to be frank, I don't actually know why we're here precisely." He gave a nonchalant shrug. "I just do what Kay tells me."
Kaylinth snorted, and his tail came out to give a flick to the back of Naar's hips. "When it suits you."
"When it suits me," he agreed.
"We were headed to the docks," Kay explained. "I've some friends down here that know how to keep things interesting." He ignored the dissenting grumble from Naar. 'Friends' who 'keep things interesting' weren't exactly welcome from the small boy's standpoint. One man to please at a time was really plenty. "You're welcome to join us, if you have time, Malta and Maike."

Fluffesu Note to self, roll for loot It was a good thing that Naar hadn't asked her to eat a magescian because Malta had never even thought about eating a magescian before and probably would never think to do such a terrifying thing. She knew khehora that did, but the idea of eating such powerful and dangeorus creatures... who were her friends... no. Just no. No thank you. No. She watched the interaction between Naar and Kaylinth, intrigued by the easy familiarity. It looked... nice. Maike scrutinized them for a moment. He was cheerful, grinning around his tusks and in a generally easy pose, but his eyes were intense, assessing. Whatever opinion he had formed of the two, however, he kept to himself, turning to Malta with a grin. “Well, go with them, then. I need to talk to Sorai – My sister -” he added, for the benefit of the magescians, “about our inventory, and then I might be heading down there myself – the best items are at the docks, you know...” he paused, ”Are you going to be okay with that?” he rumbled quietly in dragon. Malta nodded, giving her brother an affectionate headbutt. She had to learn how to handle tough situations. She had a mate, after all, and eventually there would be eggs in her future. “I'll see you later, then, Maike.” she said, leaning against him briefly before trotting over to the two. Maike chuckled – his baby sister was growing up so well. “Allright, then.” he said, “Aye, see you soon...” He contemplated adding a request to see if she could secure a dinner invitation, but decided against it. It wasn't the time to joke at her. So, with a wave of his tail and a grin to the magescians, he trotted off. Malta watched her brother go before turning to the magescians, her glowing eyes curious. “... What do you mean by interesting?” she asked, belatedly.

Naar's lips pinched, his expression darting briefly off to the side. He did enjoy Malta's company; she was a friend and he appreciated having her around, but having her with him while 'meeting' Kay's friends seemed... sketchy. Kaylinth's friends seemed even more unwanted when Naar considered what it meant to him. What he thought it meant to him, anyway. Particularly when the older Oblivionite thought it appropriate to keep secrets. Naar's gut filled with trepidation. Malta was uncomfortable enough around Magescians without adding anything else seedy. "I'm really, er- I'm really not sure if you would be interested in where we're going Malta. Or the activities once we get there... You shouldn't feel pressured to join us just because Kay asked. I-"
"I'm taking you diving," Kay explained with a hum of amusement. "I can just look at you and tell you haven't had many adventures in your life. It'll be fun. It'll be good for you. And if you don't enjoy it, you won't have to go again, hm?" He suggested, running a hand over the back of Naar's head and coiling a strand of hair about his finger.
Naar shifted uneasily from foot-to-foot, glancing between Malta and Kaylinth warily. "Is 'diving' a euphemism for-"
"No, it's exactly what it sounds like."
The younger lad looked back to Malta, still feeling uncertain. 'Diving' in the ocean sounded dangerous, if nothing else. He could probably go a lifetime without seeing what kinds of monsters lived beneath the surface, but he couldn't tell Kaylinth that. So instead, he blinked up at Malta. "I still don't want you to feel pressured into joining us," he assured her. "But I would really appreciate your company, if you saw fit to join us..."

“Oh! Diving? For pearls?” Malta perked up a little, “I've done that before! Off the coast of Soldul when I was going home...” How odd that she should be doing it again, years later, with Naarhiji of all people. Also, how odd that it should be something she already knew about. She wasn't wholly comfortable with it, of course. It was still dangerous, but she had at least done it before, and she wouldn't be doing it alone, and maybe she would get something that Maike could sell... or better yet, something she could use in her potions. “I don't feel pressured at all!” she said, giving Naarhiji a reassuring nuzzle, “I'd like to go with you!” especially if he hadn't ever dived before.

Naar pinched his bottom lip between his teeth, attention switching between Malta and Kaylinth. He knew his khehora friend was a sensible female. Malta wasn't the type to be overly reckless, and she'd even done this particular activity before. If she could do it (and was willing to do it again), it... really shouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities. She seemed excited. Kay had invited her without a second thought. So, al lin all, nothing should hold him back. He looked to his older comrade and deep his head slightly, feet scuffling against the road. "If... it's really alright," Naar mumbled.
He reached a hand out, catching the bottom of Malta's snout as she nuzzled him and holding her near. "It's really safe?" he questioned quietly, convinced that only she would hear him.
"Mm, I don't stand to gain much by letting anything happen to you down there, do I? If nothing else, it would ruin my weekend," Kaylinth hummed, smiling bemusedly as Naar huffed and buried his face into the top of Malta's head. Kay gave the top of the younger boy's ear a flick. "I think you're obligated to follow along, in any case?"
Naar hummed and pinched his eyes shut, pressing his nose to Malta's scales. "I'm not obligated to do anything. But I already said I'd go... And I will." With a huff, he extended a hand to catch Kay's arm, leaving one palm on Malta's head and the other wrapped around Kaylinth's wrist. "I won't forgive you if anything happens to my friend."
Sticking his hands in his pockets, and shifting to one foot, Kaylinth grinned. "Of course. For now, let's get to the beach."

Malta opened her mouth to answer that it was fairly safe, not completely but if they were in a group it should be okay... but the older Oblivionite had already answered the question for her... in a way. “It's safe.” she said. She hummed happily as Naar touched her head, enjoying the contact. It was certainly odd, seeing the two Oblivionites interact, but Kaylinth was not scary... Odd, but not scary. Not like that... other one. Elric and the female that lived with Naarhiji. They scared her... they scared her a lot. But this one. She murred, more confident than she usually would be in such a situation. “Nothing will happen to me.” she said happily. Of course, if something did happen to her, her siblings would be very powerful and their vengeance would come both swift and slow... but Malta did not concern herself with that. She was going to have fun! On the beach! In the water! With her friend! “Oh!” she realized she should ask something very important. “How far out are we going?” she tilted her head towards Kaylinth, careful not to dislodge Naar's hand, “Close to the shore, or deeper out?”

Naar inhaled a long slow breath. He didn't trust Kaylinth, and what was 'safe' for someone Malta's size was not necessarily safe for him. He hadn't ever made a great habit out of visiting the beach as a child, and frankly, the thought of tiny sharp granules of sand finding their way into his eye sockets and then perpetually staying there was never an entertaining notion. So 'safe' it might possibly be, comfort was another matter entirely. Still, by this point n the discussion, he did feel partially obligated.
Naarhiji rolled his shoulders, heaved a sigh and turned a wary half-smile on his companions. "Right then. Let's not waste more time lumbering about."
With Malta and the hastar in tow, the group made their way through the streets. The smell of salt and sea and fish was everywhere, and while it had been mildly interesting at first, it quickly started to wear on Naar's nerves. Kaylinth, meanwhile, seemed perfectly content. He took long, striding steps to keep up with Malta's lengthier legs, gently encouraging the younger Oblivionite forward with fingers pressed into the small of his back. "You have experience in this particular activity, it seems," he hummed in response for Malta's question. "And while I do find it more entertaining to go deeper out, I think our purpose is best served within sight of the shore, for now."
He gave an amused chortle and cast a grin at the other two. "In case someone should find our endeavors... uncomfortable, it'll be easier to return to land."

“Oh yes! I helped with a group that was gathering pearls just off of Soldul! It was so much fun...” she hesitated. Oh, right. Another question. “Will they be using... oh, what was it...” she became briefly flustered, “Bahikal saliva?” she turned to Naar, “They use it, you know, to help them breathe underwater.” she explained. It was unpleasant, but she was pretty sure that the word 'saliva' said as much. Such slimy, alchemically useful stuff, saliva... and hers was poisonous to boot. “And, uh, yes. Closer to shore... thats fine.” Preferable, actually. She'd had plenty of open ocean flying, and it was not something she liked to do often. If ever again. She perked up at the sight of the pier – while she was through with ocean travel, she liked its edge very much. “Oh!” she said, squinting at the groups of rough people along the wooden length of the dock, “Er, which are your friends?” she asked, hopeful. It would be nice not to be afraid of the very scary magescians, and surely if they were friends of this mans, they wouldn't be so bad...

"Bahikal... saliva?" Naar repeated, quirking a questioning brow in Malta's direction. "What do you mean 'use' it? How? Do they..." Coat themselves in it? Maybe boil it and inhale the smoke? Ingesting it outright sounded vile, and surely no one in their right mind had ever thought that sounded like a good idea in the first place. Not that he could put anything past the psychotic minds of people. He'd seen strange enough fetishes. He switched tangents. "I don't have any intention of sipping some monster's spit! That's just gross!"
Kaylinth choked back a laugh, fingers crawling up to pinch lightly at the back of Naar's neck and coax him near as the older man leaned toward him. His lips brushed the very tip of Naar's ear as he murmured softly, "Because it is unusual for you to engage in saliva-swapping, isn't it?"
Naarhiji snapped away from him with a huff. Otherwise he remained quiet and simmered in irritation until they reached the docks, stroking his hand rapidly down Malta's neck to ease his frustrations.
When Kay stepped ahead of them and approached a middle-aged Dovaa woman arguing with a younger hybrid boy, Naar leaned back toward Malta. "I really don't know him very well," he admitted in a grumble. "I've met him a few times, for a couple hours each time. I'm not sure if he's all that safe, or if he's all that sane for that matter." He slipped beneath her chin, moving to Malta's other side to put her between him and Kay. "It's apparent enough that he has questionable moral standing." Naar murmured. "So if things turn peculiar, we should be ready to ditch, alright?"

Malta observed their interaction with curiousity – it seemed very intimate, but Naarhiji was like that with lots of other people. She had long ago just supposed that was his way, and it was the way of the (sometimes frightening) people around him. They touched, and others liked their touch. And paid for it? Malta was still not entirely clear on that. It was all very odd. She did like touch too, though, and she was perfectly happy to let him pet her neck and side. He had very nice hands. She'd been watching the dovaa woman and the hybrid boy with wariness, very aware (still) of the power they held as magescians and how, unlike Naarhiji (and even his friend) they were unknown quantities. “Hmm?” She turned towards Naar, listening, tilting her head at his words. Mm. So even his friend was an unknown quantity, a potential threat. Her glowing blue eyes slid towards Kay, then back to Naar, before tucking him gently under her wing. “All right.” she said. She trusted Naar to know when to run, and herself to follow. The bells at the docks tinkled, catching the glance of the fishermen and sailors before they returned to their tasks, their vital knowledge updated – the winds had changed. The pearling group, waiting on their vessel, smiled. The wind was blowing their way today, and it would take them right to where they need to go... once their friend got his a** on board, of course.
