Reward: 1 "Ayrala Dragon Orb" and 1 "Peisio Dragon Orb" per participant.

You will be given a prompt that your character must respond to, please include how they view the scene given to them and what their thoughts and actions are.

Beginning:
Deciding to take a break from your training and lessons, you have wandered off to the sea side. How you travel to the shore is up to your imagination, but when you have finally arrived at your designation it is late afternoon. As you stroll along the sandy shore and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves beating upon the shore, a glimmer inland catches your eye. Looking towards it you see what ever sparkled has vanished into a dark opening in the rocky hillside next to you.
As you wander over towards the hill, you can see that while it might be a tight squeeze, you think you can enter into the dark tunnel beyond.

Please write your reactions to this prompt and reasons for being here.
If you decide to leave without entering, then give a reason why and go to Quit.
If you wish to continue inside the tunnel, also give a reason why and go to Entering.

Entering

As you squeeze into the dark tunnel, you can see a little in front of you. There are small animal tracks in the dirt beneath you. Wiggling your way slowly through the tunnel, you come upon a side tunnel. Both trails have animal tracks, though the path forward seems more traveled. Will you continue forward or turn and go down the side tunnel? Or have you had enough and want to crawl backwards and leave?

Once again, please respond to this prompt, what are your character's thoughts and feelings as they travel through this dark cramped tunnel.

If you
A) go forward, Go to "A: Forward,"
B) go down the side tunnel, Go to "B: Side Tunnel"

A: Forward!

Deciding to ignore the side tunnel, you continue on-wards. It seems a long time passes as you crawl forward, hands and knees hurting from the rocky ground and back cramping. Suddenly the dim air lightens; a gleam appears in front of you. As you crawl towards the light.....

Please roll a d100!
A) 1-10:: you tumble off the cliff edge. The fall will not kill you, but it will hurt! Go to "A1: Fall!".
B) 11-100:: you notice the floor suddenly dropping away and stop in time to not fall. Go to "A2:: Aware of Surroundings"

A1: Fall!

So engaged in crawling towards the light, you didn't notice the rocky ground give way beneath your hands. You tumble off the edge! You feel your breath knock out of you as you crash into the floor. Laying there stunned for a bit, you can feel the bruises forming and know from the dull ache that tomorrow will hurt. Looking back up the wall, you see you have fallen some distance. (Feel free to RP a bone break or something, we will not force you to get badly wounded, but if you want them to be...)

Go to "Cavern Room"

A2: Aware of Surroundings

While you are engaged in following the light, as you crawl you can feel the ground start to slope. Taking your eyes off the light, you see that in front of you the ground abruptly falls away! Good thing you were paying attention! As you crawl to the edge and look you see a small cavern light up from a hole in the ceiling. Tree roots have forced their way into this cave and opened up a path for light and water. A small pond has formed beneath the opening. In the middle of it you see a tiny island. It is covered in junk; apparently a small creature has been stock piling stolen goods in this cave. Perhaps the sparkle that led you here was that same creature coming to drop off more shiny items. Some rags, broken bottles and broken jewelry appear to make up the majority of the pile. But amidst the pile you can spot something sparkling in the light, it looks different from the rest of it. You can see a tunnel leading into the cavern across from you.

What do you do?
A) Fly down? Go to "Cavern Room"
B) Climb down? Roll a d100,
» 1-50: you make it down successfully, Go to "Cavern Room"
» 51-100: you slip and fall, but still make it into the cavern. Go to "Cavern Room"
C) Go back and try the side tunnel? Go to "Side Tunnel"
D) Leave the tunnels and cavern? Go to "Quit"

B: Side tunnel

Deciding to take this side tunnel, you squirm about and crawl through this tight space. As you squirm through the dark twisting tunnel; its rough walls scratch you with the sharp protruding rocks.

As you travel along this path you notice that it gradually slopes downwards. After a while, you see the darkness lighten. There is something ahead of you! As you crawl faster towards the light you finally see the tunnel suddenly open up.

RP response then go to "Cavern Room"

Cavern Room

Looking around at your surroundings you see a small cavern light up from a hole in the ceiling. Tree roots have forced their way into this cave and opened up a path for light and water. A small pond has formed beneath the opening. In the middle of it you see a tiny island. It is covered in junk. Some rags, broken bottles and broken jewelry. Also amid the pile you can spot something sparkling in the light. The only openings that you can leave or enter this room from are from a tunnel that comes out half way up the wall or a tunnel that leads off into the dark again.

What do you do? What are your character's thoughts?
Do you:
A) Approach the pond and its pile? Go to "Loot"
B) Leave? Go to "Leaving B" if you wish go out the tunnel halfway up the cavern wall or "Leaving A" if you wish to go out the tunnel in the wall.

Loot!

Approaching the pile, you wade through the cold pond waters. It is not deep and you can see small fish swim away from your noisy intrusion. As you reach the pile, you can see it is mostly rocks and trash gathered by some small creature, but amidst the trash you find an Ayrala and Peisio Dragon Orb! (one for each participant)
User ImageUser Image
Now to leave. Go to "Leaving B" if you wish go out the tunnel in the middle of the wall or "Leaving A" if you wish to go out the tunnel in the wall.

Leaving A

As you leave the cave behind you and crawl through the dark winding tunnel the sharp rocks protruding from the walls scratch and gouge you. It gradually slopes upwards, back towards the surface. After a while, you reach another tunnel. Looking down you can see the tracks that you made earlier. Following them out, you squeeze out back onto the surface. The sun is now on the horizon.

Leaving B

To get here you must climb or fly to the tunnel. Roll a d100
» 70-100 means you successfully climb to it and may leave this way.
» 1-69 means you fail to climb up. You may try again at a 5 point penalty (now 1-74 fails) as you are hurt from your fall. Or you may leave through the other tunnel. Go to "Leaving A".

This tunnel is a tight fit, but at least it is lite by the sunlight seeping in through small crevices in the roof and walls. While the ground is rough, you aren't hurt by any sharp rocks as you travel along it. After a long time, you reach another tunnel. Looking down you can see the tracks that you made earlier. Following them out, you squeeze out back onto the surface. The sun is now on the horizon.

Quit:
You may at any time quit, but doing so will mean you do not get the reward. You may count this as an RP requirement if you wrote 500+ words.
RP your escape.

Free at last!: Please rp you characters thoughts and feelings as they travel along the path and leave the cavern behind. You may include their trip home if you so desire.

The day had started out so well. The seaside town her father had chosen for a family vacation was a welcome change from the city. She enjoyed the bracing sea air, and she especially liked the cheerful shops and stalls and entertainments ranged all around town.

Unfortunately, the loss of one of her stepmother's baubles earlier this morning now cast a pall over the household. The woman blamed her maid, her father blamed his wife, and Vesper crept away unnoticed from the ensuing domestic uproar. She distracted her brothers with toys and games until it was time for their afternoon nap.

As her brothers slept, she slipped outside for a walk on the beach. The waves made for a soothing background, washing away her cares. She let her gaze drift aimlessly over the beach and the surrounding lands.

Wait, what was that? Something glittered in the distance. Whatever it was, it didn't linger for long before darting into an opening in the side of the hill. Vesper perked up. Perhaps it hadn't been a thief this morning, but a creature with a fondness for shiny things. And this just might be the way to its stash.

Vesper raced up the hill, then paused before the opening, which turned out to extend into a dark tunnel. She frowned. Caves weren't exactly known for their cleanliness. But the chance to end the argument back home was tempting.

She sidled into the darkness of the tunnel, small hands holding her skirts carefully to avoid brushing against the cave walls. It didn't quite work, but she was committed now.

If you decide to leave without entering, then give a reason why and go to Quit.
If you wish to continue inside the tunnel, also give a reason why and go to Entering.

The point of the trip was supposed to be special training with and old battle friend of his father, what it really ended up being was his dad drinking with his friend and trading old battle tales. Alionse had found it exciting at first, but as more drink poured and their words started to slur, Alionse lost interest pretty quickly. He went into the small shack next to the house and found a pair of practice swords. He thrust and parried, using the limited moved he had learned from his instructor, but even that got boring when compared to the newness of being in a new place.

Besides the forests and plains near Ashen City, he had never really been out of Ashen. The seaside town was secluded and he heard used by a few for a vacation spot, but what really fascinated him was that he had seen people that weren't Orderites here. He just caught glimpses, before his father pulled him away, but the thought of meeting a Dovaa or even an Oblivionite sounded both dangerous and exciting. Besides, if his father and his friend were planning to drink themselves under the table for most of the day, then Alionse needed to keep himself busy.

Secured in his decision, Alionse adjusted the knife his father gave him. He looked at one of the practice swords and considered taking that with him, but decided against it. He didn't want to take it without asking first, and asking meant possibly his father saying no or worst, tagging along. So he hurried out of the yard, cutting through the woods. He played there for a while, before the forest began to open up, the trees going spares as he moved closer to the coast.

The sea! Alionse's eyes widened at the sight. The water went on forever. He was gaping in awe when he saw movement. He caught sight of a girl, around his age, pushing into a cage. He didn't get to see much of her. For some reason she seemed completely cast in shadow, though it was sunny out. Confused and curious, Alionse walked towards the cave. He tried to peer in, but he didn't see much.

Suddenly he felt nervous, but he didn't want to back out now. Pulling out his knife, just in case, he stepped deeper into the tunnel.

The darkness within the tunnel did not pose much of an obstacle for an Oblivionite. Relying on her night vision, Vesper picked her way through the tunnel. When she looked down at the dirt underfoot, the small animal tracks guided her along. The signs were looking quite promising for her theory. Good. If she'd mussed up her clothes on a wild-goose chase, she'd be quite vexed.

Hearing footsteps behind her, Vesper paused, then turned to face the source of the sound. There was something -- or someone -- else in the tunnel with her, too far away to see.

Calling out was her initial impulse, but she dismissed the idea with a tiny shake of her head. What if the other posed a threat? If there was any ambushing in this cave, she was going to be the one doing the ambushing, thank you. She had only a pair of hairpins to hand, but they might serve as makeshift weapons in a pinch.

She promptly clutched one hairpin in each hand, pointy ends facing outwards. Hoping that she wouldn't need to get them bloody, Vesper waited for the footsteps to get closer.

It was dark, too dark. Alionse could barely see a thing. For a moment he considered going back, but immediately dismissed it. He was supposed to be training to go on the battlefield, he couldn't just turn back because things made him uncomfortable. He narrowed his eyes, squinting to make out anything in the darkness. He kept his knife in front of him, ready to swing if he had too. He used his free hand to touch the cave wall, pressing against it as a guide as he crept slowly forward. As he did he noticed small animal tracks. They didn't look too intimidating.

It made him remember the girl he seen. Was she okay? In any case, she hadn't turned back, so there was no way he was going to either. He moved deeper into the cave barely able to see much, when his gaze caught sight of a figure. A dark shadow standing in the cave. He wasn't able to make it out properly, but from how small it was, he figured it was the girl.

"Hello?"
PostPosted: Sat May 16, 2015 9:06 pm

Vesper waited in wary silence as the footsteps grew louder. The owner of the footsteps came gradually into view. The boy was around her age, and he held a knife in front of him. If the cave's darkness wasn't playing tricks on her grayscale vision, he seemed paler than those she usually met, but that wasn't what worried her the most. That distinction belonged to the knife in his hand.

A knife against her hairpins. No, she didn't care for these odds. Let's hope the newcomer preferred words to violence.

Hearing him call out, Vesper allowed herself a flicker of optimism. "Hello!" she called back, putting on a slight smile for him. Her hands busied themselves with pinning up her hair, so as to explain away the presence of her ersatz weapons. "Nice day for exploring, isn't it?"

The sound of a girl's voice stopped Alionse in his tracks. It was still hard for him to see her, which he thought was strange. Usually Orderite's were hard to miss, because of their bright colors. Obviously she could see him well enough too. He lowered his knife and walked slowly closer. "Is that what you're doing?" He asked as he glanced around, genuinely curious. "Have you found anything in here yet?"

He moved closer and as he did he finally made out the figure of the girl. What he at first thought was just shadow and darkness he realized was actually dark skin. Skin to dark to belong to an Orderite. She had pretty long blue hair and was wearing a dress. But what really stood out for Alionse was that where her eyes should have been was an endless darkness.

His eyes widened. "You're an Oblivionite!" In this situation he maybe should have brought his knife up or done something,, but all he did was stand there and stare. He had never seen an Oblivionite before. He had heard horror stories and they were made out to be soulless beast, intent on destroying the world. Though his father said often enough that he shouldn't listen to stories, but how could Alionse not listen to the stories when there was no one else to compare it to?

Whether the girl in front of him was soulless or not, he couldn't tell. Right now, he just thought she was...sort of....pretty.

As the boy lowered his knife, Vesper rewarded him with a brief widening of her smile. "More or less. I followed something in, but I've lost track of it now. How about you?" As she spoke, she finished putting her blue hair up into a casual bun, then let her hands fall to rest at her sides, away from the hairpins.

She had turned her head to sight down the tunnel, trying to see if the glimmer was still somewhere up ahead, when he identified her as an Oblivionite with way more shock than it warranted. "But of course!" she replied, turning back with a laugh. "Same as...." The realization hit her, and she gasped. The cave had not deceived her vision after all.

She had but one life, and she did not intend to end it in a narrow little tunnel with only a pair of pretty but decidedly flimsy hairpins to defend herself. "You didn't come for a fight, did you?" she asked gravely. "Do you want one now?"

Alionse thought about that. Did he want to fight the girl? Should he want to? His expression grew pensive and he shook his head, causing his long pink hair to brush over his back. "No, I don't want to fight you. Do you want to fight me?" He asked, genuinely curious. He was fairly certain he was breaking some sort of rule by not instantly attacking or at least running to tell someone, but he wasn't on Serenia or a battlefield, so he figured that it didn't count.

He stepped a little closer, but then stopped. He didn't want to frighten her, though she seemed more determined than frightened. Which was curious, but then again, everything about her made him curious. He couldn't help glancing back at her eyes, or the darkness where her eyes would have been. "I've never met an Oblivionite before. What's your name?"
PostPosted: Wed May 20, 2015 9:45 pm

Some of the tension -- tension Vesper hadn't realized was there, really -- eased from her slim frame as she heard the Orderite's reply. "No," she answered without so much as a moment's hesitation to think things over. A ghost of the earlier smile returned as she added, "Especially not in a tunnel like this."

Smile fading once again into watchfulness, she held her ground and gazed back as he approached. "Vesper." A false name might have been more prudent, but prudence would not have approved of wandering into a cave with only an unknown Orderite for company. It was too late to mind about prudence. "And you are?" She paused, then added more gingerly, "Do I have something on my face?"

"Alionse," he answered, not bothering to hide his name. Why should he? He was nobody of importance that his name could be used against him or other Orderites. At least he didn't think so. He started to say something more when her next question took him off-guard. He realized he had been caught staring. He flushed and glanced away. "Sorry. I...Is it true that you don't have a soul," he blurted out.

He turned back to her, his green eyes gleaming with curiosity. He knew it probably wasn't polite to ask directly like that. He had been scolded by strangers many of times for his bluntness. It was one of the reasons he tended not to talk much, but right now he couldn't stop himself from talking. There were just so many questions he wanted to ask and he didn't know if he would ever get the chance again. So he didn't talk the question back, instead he waited patiently for her to respond.
PostPosted: Wed May 20, 2015 10:55 pm

Vesper's brows lifted. A theological discussion with an Orderite (Alionse, she said in her mind) in a cave? The day just kept getting stranger. But strange as it was, she found it more amusing than wandering a cave alone would have been; his bluntness was refreshing. "That's what the priests teach us," she confirmed with a nod.

The girl took a few steps forward, the better to see the route ahead. The tunnel continued, with a hint of light in the distance. Branching off was a smaller side tunnel, only large enough to crawl through. For her, the choice was simple -- no crawling for her. But would the boy choose the same path?

So now it was Vesper's turn to be curious. She paused at the intersection of the two tunnels, her head tilting toward Alionse as she wondered, "What does it feel like to have one? A soul, I mean."

Alionse was surprised by the question. What did it feel like to have a soul? He tried thinking on it for a moment, chewing on his bottom lip before shrugging and looking at the girl. "I'm not sure. I've always had one, so I don't know how it would feel compared to not having one. I guess it would depend on what it feels like not having a soul?"

Noticing the small tunnel to the side, Alionse eyed it curiously. On his own he would have tried to check it out, but since he was with Vesper and she was in a dress, he didn't think the girl would want to go crawling down it. He turned and eyed the road ahead.

"So...want to explore together?" He smiled at her. Unlike what he had been told, even if she was an Oblivionite, she seemed like a normal girl to him. And she was interesting too. He had never thought what it was like to have a soul. She made him thinking about things he never even considered and that made her even more interesting.
PostPosted: Thu May 21, 2015 8:24 pm

As the other pondered his answer, Vesper took a few more steps down the main tunnel. From the inward slope of the cave walls, it seemed that crawling was inevitable either way. A sigh escaped her, mourning inwardly for her dress. So be it.

Her frown smoothed away as she strolled back, studying the boy's expression as he spoke. "True. I don't think there are many people who would be able to compare." Was there an Oblivionite out there who had gained a soul? Or an Orderite who had lost one? She gave a rueful shrug.

"Together?" she echoed, returning the smile. She always did like that word. Having company, socially acceptable or not (and an Orderite certainly was not), would always be preferable to having none, by her reckoning. For all that this boy was an Orderite, she had put up with worse company among her own people. A gesture indicated the two paths. "If you'll go ahead and take your pick, I'll follow." She had resigned herself to the inevitable dirt and grime, but she was most certainly not going to crawl in a dress in front of a boy she'd just met.

Alionse was surprised that Vesper left the choice to him. For a second he wondered if this was a ploy. Asking him to go first and she would follow would mean the girl would be at his back and... Heshook his head. He didn't like that train of thought. He could be a bit suspicious of people, but he wanted to try trusting this girl. Even if she was an Oblivionite, he already liked her and she was really fascinating to say the least and not even a little annoying, which he couldn't say of some Orderites he had met recently.

So he decided to try to give her his trust and see where it went. He glanced down at the side tunnel, and then forward. Ahead it looked well-traveled and was a bit wider than the other and well-traveled usually meant safer. And right now, he would feel responsible if something happened to Vesper. Forward it was!

"Let's go straight," he said and took a step forward. He looked over his shoulder. "Have you met many Orderites before? Or am I the first one?"
