Noah stumbled away from the mirror to lean against the wall of the cavern, feeling shaky and sick, carefully facing away from the mirror itself. Maybe that was dangerous. Maybe he was risking being attacked from that direction. Maybe he should be doing something, like trying to fight alongside the other apprentices, trying to confront Morgan, but his joints felt watery and his gut felt cold and he didn't think he could do anything yet.
He would just rest a minute, and then he would do something. Maybe the mirror had cast a spell on him. The prospect was more than a little terrifying, and he hoped it wasn't true.

Corbin staggered past Noah's side, screaming himself hoarse at what he bore witness to. Tears filled his eyes, threatening to mar his cheeks as he tripped and finally stumbled to the ground. He reached out desperately for help, grasping Noah by the pant leg and wailing pitifully up at him.

Noah slid slowly to the ground, transferring his blank gaze to Corbin, and took hold of his sleeve. He didn't ask what the other man had seen. "Oh, good," he said instead, his voice hoarse, "you're not dead."

"How the ******** am I not dead?!" Corbin shrieked and looked at his hands again. They were whole. He pressed his fingers against his own face, breath still rapid and shallow as adrenaline still pumped through his veins. "... I'm... not a skeleton?" he asked in earnest, showing Noah his face.

"You're not a skeleton," Noah agreed. "I think ... it wasn't real, what we saw. It can't have been real." He pulled one knee up against his chest and gave Corbin a haunted look. "It can't have been," he repeated.

"It felt real," Corbin whimpered pitifully. He checked his hands over again just to be sure. "I died," he sounded so sure of it then looked at Noah. He wondered what the strange man saw but was too afraid to ask at this point. His own hands were still trembling.

"Everyone died," Noah said very softly, and impulsively reached out to take one of Corbin's hands, checking it over himself, making sure it was warm and solid and there. He kept his eyes down and held the hand lightly, expecting the hand to be snatched back out of his grasp.

It wasn't, the hand remained, the inspection assuring Corbin too that it was in one piece as it should be. "Do you think it was just a nightmare?" He peered over at Noah, nervous about what he might say.

"I think so. I hope so." Noah shuddered, unsettled. "I, I have to think so, or I might go crazy, so I'm going to. It has to be a nightmare." He didn't let go of Corbin's hand.

Corbin's hand turned in Noah's until his fingers were curled against his wrist. "I... I think I... um... I can't remember your name...," it was awkward admitting that, somehow, even though it was a miracle he remembered anything at all anymore. "I... I think I told you mine before, but I can't remember if..." He squinted at Noah.

"I'm Noah," Noah answered, looking down at their hands curiously. "I'm - I don't remember your name. I feel like I should. I'm sorry." He brushed his fingers across the back of Corbin's hand, a slow gentle touch.

"Corbin," he smiled. "Like the bird," he pointed to a small black feather tied to his bracelet. "Strangely... I don't really remember what they were like, either." He looked down again, seeming to suddenly remember their visions. "Why is the mirror trying to scare us, you think?"

"Like the bird," Noah nodded, and almost absentmindedly brought his hand up to curl it around his pendant again. He started to look over toward the mirror, then stopped himself, determinedly not looking at it. "Maybe it's ... protecting itself? From something? While it does something? Maybe it can't let people near it."

"I don;t know but that s**t was traumatizing," he tried to laugh, but it sounded awkward as it dawned on him that that wasn't really a joke. He really was probably traumatized for life now. Thanks mirror.

"Maybe it can still be destroyed." Noah shivered. "But ... I can't go near it again." He leaned back on the wall and rubbed one hand over his face. "I can't."
