Mmur left the stronghold early the next morning, not because he had any compulsion to collect more armor—especially if the mountain was going to start doling out shirts, bah!—but because the wizard had urged him to give Franks another chance. As if he wouldn't have done so on his own! Mmur understood what it felt like to be sick, and even though he had been disappointed that his equine companion had left him, he was still planning on checking up to see if he was feeling better today.
Upon reaching the stables, Mmur edged around to their back to avoid the groom. Franks's stall was deeper inside anyway, and he had nothing to say to the man that hadn't already been said.
Mmur crept through the stalls, his eyes adjusting slowly to a space even darker than the sky outside. His horse's name was on his tongue before he arrived, but it never made it into the open air.
When he peered over the side of Franks's stall, the horse was nowhere to be found.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 26/26 YOUR HP: 30/30

[ step one ]
After grabbing as much food as he could carry, Mmur exited the city, determined to find his friend or... well, not die trying, but certainly sustain some sort of grievously heroic injury. His bare feet made soft slaps against the jagged ground, his pace quickening when he saw the forest looming ahead. Even that slight increase in his volume broadcast his location to a number of his mountain dwelling neighbors, and he found himself attracting vultures, rats, bugs, and one very large horse.
Mmur paused for a stretch, sorrowful eyes glued to the animal. Its mane was matted, its tail uneven as if it had gotten it caught in something and wrestled it free, and it had a dried mucusy film staining its lips. But it wasn't Franks.
The horse stomped angrily and gave chase. Mmur only just barely made it into the forest without being trampled.Quote: Rolling a 2: You encounter a wild *animal here* that is extremely rabid and ferocious. It blocks the path and attacks you! [ step two ]
For some reason, his first impulse was to climb a tree, so he did. Mmur hadn't even known he could until he had practically sprinted up the side of an oak, but he felt much safer now, nestled in the crook of two branches. Safe enough to fall asleep, watching the leaves shiver in the wind.
He awoke to a rustling below him. A pair of upright ears just visible through the trees. Mmur sat up against the trunk, hoping that he was silent enough to escape notice. The creature was almost past... almost.
It turned its head, staring at him with a single eye. It was Franks.
"Fraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaankssssss!" Mmur shouted, dropping out of the tree onto his mount's back and throwing his arms around the horse's neck. "I'm so glad to—"
Without a warning of any sort, Franks took off into the trees, leaving Mmur to swallow his words and hang on for dear life.Quote: Rolling a 3: Your horse gives up on you, running away comes back *cough*. They barreled through a cluster of traps sunken into the floor and Franks clopped over a number of them, but he was going so fast that it hardly mattered what emerged. They were past the hazards before they could be attacked at all.Quote: Rolling a 3: You accidentally step on a booby trap as snakes start chasing you! [ step four ]
Franks burst out of the top of the mountain like a lava flow, both he and his rider rather breathless. In front of them, stood the wizard. (There was also a fine looking set of shoulder armor that Mmur wasn't admiring. Not at all.)
"I see you found each other," the wizard said.
"I guess?" Hadn't they found each other yesterday?
"No," the wizard continued. "That horse you were riding previously was not—"
"That's nice. Is that mine?" Mmur pointed past the wizard at the armor.
"Hmph. Yes. Fine. Off with you."
